Only God himself knows how bad i miss this style of singing. These folks along with their heavy handed pianist really knew how to set the tone. yes lord!
Mt. Theodore Alan You know this is the type of singing that gets me through some hard times . no disrespect 2 the new gospel.but new stuff does not do it for me.the singer back in the day meant what they were singing about . they really singed for the lord.
Mt. Theodore Alan yes i noticed .but thank GOD there's youtube were i can see all my favorite gospel singer like Clara Ward , Mahalia Jackson, Dorothy Love Coates , Sister rosetta tharpe, and the list go on and on..
I went and looked up those other versions after reading your comment....Cissy/Whitney comes super close, but you are right, Marian (along with Kitty, Mattie, Frances, and Mr Piano playa) still takes the cake on this here song
@cdhinton77 I was born in 1935, So both of your parents are children under me (LOL) The Davis Sisters were good friends of mind. The lord speaks to us in mysterious ways, so maybe that was his way of reaching you, Those songs certainly gives me strength. Your dad, was old enough to remember this genre, but your mom, being born in 1960, this is before her time, evidently her parents schooled her well. I used to attend church, but i'm a retired Baptist now. Todays church anit for me!
@cdhinton77 I will say it again, nothing beats proper home training. i raised 6! children along with my late husband, and we raised each one to be respectful of others & themselves. An "OLD" spirit probaly did get attached to your young body, it does happen from time to time. That Old time religion, is what brought many folks over the rough times many a years ago. continue in your good up bringing, it will carry you through all sorts of times, i speak from experience.
@cdhinton77 I find it very touching that more young people are discovering this genre of gospel music. At 28 years of age, its likely that your parents weren't even born when this music was so popular. Maybe there's hope after all.

@cdhinton77 I wish it would come back, but i doubt if i will ever see this again in my life time. But i sure enjoyed it back in the 1950s when this type of gospel was wall to wall.
