They've got the ancient's mindset, that life is less than worthless and that ascending is the true goal. From their POV they're saving everyone, from everyone else's pov they're doing the opposite. Since we know so little about canon saint's motives, we can't be certain that canon saint wouldn't do this (if given the opportunity).
