Calvin's Car Diary SL55 was too cheap for that mileage but the 500 SL is not worth £8k maybe £6500. Some of the cheaper SLs have been for sale since the summer 😔
Mental Dave Thing is that awful beige colour inside and out as well as wood trim is actually what the target market for one of these want! I think they call it Worthers (original) spec. Like Calvin I’d rather have black with red silver trim and split rim alloys but I’d rather have a hot hatch. Plus the value is in the 2005 model year 350s with g7 box and wide nav - there’s one online for £4440 - cheap car... and it’s not selling.
Love them AMG SL55’s I think the multi spoke wheels look amazing on a silver car! Used to have a lady near me with one like that and loved it was like a mini SLR. 👌🏼

My Dad has a SL 55 in really good condition, he only drives it on sundays in the summer, I love that car, but when something goes wrong repairs can get very expensive... But the supercharged V8 is amazing, powerful and sounds amazing!!
I think you should have done the video. Your couple of sentances were more informative than his whole video. Well that's unless you want to told on 5 plus occasions that he prefers red leather....yawn
Great vid as always Calv. I have an S55 AMG myself, amazing engines, very tuneable with pulley kits and exhaust mods, easily see 550bhp plus. Most of the amg cars were 100k plus when new. All hand built engines too.
I’ve had my 2005 sl 500;for 10years ,I bought it from a gezzer called David Richards,,owner of suburu pro drive ,and I’m sure his done something to it ,7 speed gearbox,it is mental and I love it love love love it😎
justin dabreu if the varioroof wasn’t so terrifying to repair I’d prolly buy one. The ABC system scares me too because I had an AirMatic car and that was a lot of maintenance for me.
I have always loved these cars and thought they were amazing value for money, but was always put off by the potential cost of repairs when things went tits up, so maybe a bmw 330i e93 272bhp hardtop convertible would be a better bet?
I have no idea why i enjoy watching 'Calvin's Car diary' so much. The title sounds like a 8 year olds journal, Calvins hair needs to jump out of 20003 and in to the present, and the colored box outline hoodies are not to my liking. But this is a really good series and Calvin basically likes the same cars i do, and purchases tham so i don't have to.
One of my all time favourite cars the SL55 AMG. So much want .... prefer the AMG's interior too, don't like the 500's pimp red leather,but each to they're own. Another great vid enjoyable to listen to you chat about motors.
For the age they hold together a lot better than a bmw of the same age these cars are spotless and will go on forever with no problems , such a good solid build quality
Be careful buying old Mercs, I got my fingers burned with a 2006 CLK Cabriolet. The Airbag light came on, engine management light came on, gearbox went into limp mode, roof didn't open properly, brake discs warped, I only had it a few months and it was fine when I bought it...
Because its 5 speed the gear ratios are high in the first gear so that's why when you put your foot down it feels like it takes time to get into the 2nd. It would throw you back more if it was a 7 speed as the gear ratios low end would be lower so it will get through the rev range quicker.
Two very good looking car's there Calvin, the black one with the red leather does it for me, but sadly a tad out of my budget by £8000. Another great video, 👍 can't wait for an update on the E46 M3 oh and edition 30.
I don’t think the SL500 is really worth it when the SL550 is a lot faster, and not much more expensive in the US. The SL550 does well under 5 seconds 0-60 and sounds wonderful.
Nice video - I had the 55, loved the sound but problems galore with it and repairs were mad expensive for the most simple things! I’ve got to know - what is that coat brand/model you’re wearing?
Had an E Class from this era. Mercedes were rot boxes back then. About 6 years old I had rust along the bottom of the doors and one of the rear arches was bubbling.
We always see you buying but we never see you selling or showing a process of selling, I know it's a pain but would be good to see some tips on selling
There is a sports button, they are stupid money the engine on the AMG is one of the best engines ever it’s the same as the McLaren Mercedes, I have one with black series body kit, looks awesome with wide arches etc, for the weight they are amazing and way ahead of the time when they came out!! Underrated and worth way more than the market says, buy now definitively a future classic!! 👍
Great cars but had roof probs with one and another (all SL55 AMGs) ended up sounding like a traction engine. Expensive repairs and loved them but not missed I'm afraid, be interested to know how you get on with these. Thanks for very interesting videos.
My boss has a Sl65 amg I get to take it to the garage tomorrow and pick it back up after its in for the air suspension on the drivers side dropping when he let's it sit but once its started it goes back up
I had a clk55amg and it was amazingly fast. Smoothest transmission I've ever drove as well. Unfortunately it was cosmetically challenged from previous owner who never maintained it. I lost a ton of money on it. But the driving experience, speed and handling, was special.
carbon skinning is good. good fun to haha. ive done most of my interior with carbon fibre twill. real carbon fibre twill cloth costs buttons. its a process but it looks mint in the end

Hi guys, just my short comment on SL 500 VS SL55 AMG, if you are a petrol head like me you will own the SL 500 for about 1 week max.... in my case 48 hours before I drove it to another dealer and part exchange for a SL 55 AMG , reason : acceleration 0 to 60 .......really slow , nice V8 noise but ( if you are also a biker like me ) not so fast and this is due to the weight !!!!! the rest could be actually enjoyable, so many features but when you open the bonnet and check the engine .....WOW....just to see the engine plate with the name of the Engineer that put together this engine is out of this world !!!!! if you already have an SL 500 and if you are a petrol f.***head like me , you want to tune it up .....you will find out that before you stick a supercharger and remap the ECU, the F.***** Brakes needs a proper upgrade, all will add up and believe me it is not worth it !!!! better sell your SL 500 and get a SL 55 or better a SL 65 and buy a nice wide body kit .......do not forget to watch SK8215 Video regarding the famous o-ring that will blow your engine apart if you do not replace it in time !!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lUAB7lKoIt0.html

Nice video and once you’ve had a 500 re badged it quad exhaust it it’s still not the one (Like I’ve done) then the SL55 turned up and I bought “the god” sold the 500 Never the same ride sound or status basically.....12.4sec at the pod as std car non tuned!!!
....2 tons of alloy & steel to shift for a start.....this car is serious German over engineering....& yet still the SL500 has more than enough power.....& the torque is relentless....it is much much quicker than it sounds on paper. As for the SL55......well this is just a complete & utter lunatic....seriously unhinged :)

The merc is in a different league to and r56 m2 completely different league and price. Shit e46 ain't that much bh at all really . You get old minis with a pully change ans few bits with the same power
