@@HunterTuned this was the first honda I seen built back in high-school I was in 9th grade and it was built by a senior wat a beautiful chick not to mention the car nitrous powered b16 wish I had that car that car was wat got me into Hondas
I lost my timing belt on my b16 crx reving at 8200, I pulled the head and not one bent valve. This was 15 years ago, and I was dead broke, I couldn't even afford a new head gasket. Amazing luck.
@Nobody Noone I didn't even adjust the valves, new headgasket, and off I went. Now, today, I have no idea where that motor ended up, but I wish I still had it.
These videos are the ones I ABSOLUTELY Love. I've done this same thing . Buying cheap someone else's headache and fixing it quick and cheap for myself. Usually been the best cars/purchases. Anyhow Hunter, it would be really cool if you kept the Sol and turboed it on E-85.
The way it fired up first crank 😂 This is better condition than my Del Sol (minus the rust). I have p2p0 rods, vitara pistons, king bearings, stock head with arp studs. It’s on a base map, with stock fuel system. I’ll be ordering 1000cc injectors soon! I can’t wait to properly tune mine. Stoked for this build!
Man, I've never owned a Del Sol, but I've seen some nice high horsepower units. I have only ever driven one, and it was a B16 Si 5 speed that was REALLY surprising. I was only about 16 at the time, so I didn't know what it was or how rare it was, but it was easy to break the front tires loose in first and second. Edit: You know that I am almost 40 now, so when I was a teenager the B series was the end all be all. The K series didn't come out until I was in my late 20s and they were easily $10k for a stock K20 or K24 until ten years later.
@@williamgoestenkors6846 Mine is the 1.6 liter, 125 hp, single overhead cam VTEC. It was the more powerful engine that year. I believe it has the D16Z6 factory designation.
@@williamgoestenkors6846 the b16 vtec trim was not rare. lmao. this is the claim because in 1993 there was only an S and SI model, d16y8 and d16z6 respectively. I had a 93 Si which had d16z6. after 93 aka 94-98 the vtec trim was added which had the b16 motor. so more del sols were sold with vtec trim than without. its factually wrong that the b16 version is rare. in truth, most of us back when were broke, and it was cheaper to buy s or si model instead of vtec model.
I have one. I purchased it new exactly 30 years ago in December of 92. It's a 93 Black Del Sol Si manual transmission , rear spoiler, 81,000 miles, all original and near perfect rust free condition. Just replaced the timing belt for the first time this past spring based on some advice from another you tuber. My only modification came a few years ago when I put in a new head unit and sub woofer. Fleetwood Mac has never sounded better. Love, love, love the car! Keeping it forever. Have fun with yours, Hunter Tuned.
I picked up a 93 Del Sol 1.5l non vtec off my neighbor for $1000 and it has 126K miles on it honestly couldn’t be happier with the thing, runs like a dream
For $500 not a bad deal! Del sol is a badass unit. I’ve owned only one and it was head on’d and totaled by some female. 🤦♂️ Take care of it man! Huge potential with these!
I'd like to see this car get boosted as high as you think it can go and still be reliable. Comp Cams makes camshafts for these for like $300-ish bucks. Stage 2 cam needs springs so I think you could do a cool video showing how to install the cam and valve springs via pressurizing air into the spark plug hole. Then no need to pull the cylinder head. Maybe do a fender exit 3" pipe too. Or maybe full 3" back. And fuck yea ice racing! Sounds good.
I say make that desol special! It would be a good video series! Can't be the price especially with such an easy fix! I have run a single cam with the balance shafts 180 degree out hell of a noise when u shut it off but ran fine. I fixed when I had a day off. Killer thumbnail!!! Keep pushing
Heel yee! I have a Sol too! 93' Samba green 💚 z6 also.. definitely boost it! Especially z6 Be neat to see a budget build on a Honda like this. Single turbo 🙌🏼
I really hope you had another door in your garage open while that car was running, my coworkers love to start cars with the door closed and it hurts to see
Gotta love a Z6. I've had 4 Del Sols, the daily took me 303k miles. Body rust and after being hit 7 times, I pulled the drivetrain and put it in an automatic Del shell. My neighbor is still driving it, so I don't know how many miles are on it now. I even had the timing belt break after 20k miles. Put a new timing kit in, and put another 30k miles on it. New Sub.
Bought my 93 del Sol for $500 runs and drives just a few cosmetics and control arms later and all set, planning on putting a turbo in it this summer once my work picks up
The rear window has drain plugs on each side that get plugged. Water collects and causes that rust behind the doors. Dropping denture cleaner tablets on each side through the window slit will eat out the gunk plugging the drains and open them again preventing that problem.
**********DRAIN TUBE ISSUE********** I've own over 20 sols and i'm pretty sure the confined rust holes is because the rear window drain tubes (one each side) are plugged....from years of sediment, dirt, leaves, etc. getting in. This seems obvious because there is no rust anywhere else on the rear wheel wells. I had the same problem with one of my sols. Fortunately, there is a detailed youtube video showing how to easily unplug the tubes - from underneath (plastic rocker panels come off) - so you don't have to laborously remove the rear compartment from the inside. I would try that underneath approach first. Also, I don't suggest repairing the infected rust holes until the water leak issue is fixed.
I just fired up my 83 Toyota today in -16 Celsius, which it warm compared to the average minus 30 we’ve been getting. Slapped a new battery in and Jesus she’s knocking like a jehovas witness, drove it out of a foot of snow ice cold hahaha
Honestly pretty clean interior for a del sol. Plus about 200 for those seats another 200 off 😅. I wish Florida had one for 500 🤣 all our part out del sols run around 1k. Love the video tho brother
Man I love del sols! Especially when you get a great deal! I bought a samba del sol for 300 bucks and it had a d16z6 also and I fixed it sold the engine and bought ls block and gsr head and everything was going great until the oil pump I bought for it was defective and it starved the oil in it and blew a rod right through the block. Ever since the. It’s been hard to get a good la block and I ended up buying an h23a motor and that’s my next project so hopefully a del sol with an h23 vtec will be fun
Heck yea. I would pull those side moldings off cut out the rust and put in some new sheet metal. As nice as the rest of the car is an the underneath is that's a fixer. Maybe pull the tail light and see if you can pop that dent out do a little bit of clear coat or paint touch up and it'd be a nice car. Either have a nice little beater car or do a budget turbo setup and drive or sell.
i bought mine for $150, the guy thought the engine was dead but it was just a broken belt, apart from a few scratches and dents on the body the car is in mint condition, even the ac works lol
They rust out in that spot because they have clogged up or busted water channels that keep the water in the body.so water just collects and rust forms.
Yessir get it bud! Time for a single cam turbski flipperooni aye? Lol good shit you saved it man. These cars are depleting so quick cause of lack of knowledge or even people not caring to look further into something like you just did.
This happened to me on my em2 and I had to remake the threads with a Heli coil for the autozone specials tensioner was horrible when i pulled the pin it didn't make tension and I had to redo the whole thing lol
that ground is useless anyway..should be mounted to ps pump bracket which is obv gone..doesnt make a good ground thru the rubber gasket and grommets on valve cover...just saying...sweet buy tho
I'd say get rod bearings and valve adjustment it is possible the car can be running somewhat okay even after timing belt has come off on a interface engine a valve can be slightly bent on the valve guides are not aligned, funny because this happen to me in a 500 98 civic sedan aha and I did the same thing although the head on mind I know has a bad Valve I've been driving like that for over a year
I have a 94 d16 del Sol with the same rust on the right side quarter panel trying to fix that first so I can paint the car? Any ideas on how I can go about this?
I bought a broke down EF sedan off some lady years ago I changed the fuel filter put gas changed the igniter & drove it home I gave her $100 dollar bill and asked for $10 for gas lol and she gave me a 10 😂 I it drove almost 50 miles home with zero issues
500 not bad at all I will buy it all day long it's good bro I believe they sale does quater panel on website I have to buy one for my DA and its cheap now back in the days was more expensive then now at least on that 😅
Lucky... I'm Jelly. lol My Del Sol Needs engine and transmission transmit & other stuff But I Have a Complete Rolling Shell. My Del Sol is Here on RU-vid. Honda delSol on 20's it's the Green ish One with a silver Honda emblem in the middle of the windshield
corner light breaking free is super common. mine did that back in the day and i just hot glued it back on lmao. quarter panel rust is common too. super common. lmao. my top leaked as well but i never fixed it. i wanted to buy new rubber but before i had a chance the engine blew and i ended up just junking the car for 500 and bought a s2000.... those taillights are ugly as shit. please go oem or oem adjacent. please! lmao. those del sol phat 5's are legit. I would get them resurfaced with some quality michelin all season tires and enjoy the fuck out of them. no need for aftermarket those things are light weight as is.... the quarter panel rust, comes from trunk leaking. and pools up at the bottom thus rust at the bottom quarter panel.... again super common.
Get a can of spray foam and fill up those holes then just use an exacto knife and trim the excess to match the body of the car. Then if you want to get real ambitious get some thin metal from Home Depot use tin snips to cut a couple pieces to cover over the foam rivet them on and a couple coats of black spray paint.
Hi Hunter! (My uncle)Its me McKenna! Mom told me about your channel I like your video! I'm gonna subscribe because I 💓 u I hope I can see you again! Sincerely McKenna
What's the full name on the title? Mine is honda civic crx del sol si. Mine is a 93 titled as a 94. Reason I say Mine is like that is cause of the 2nd air bag. Mine only has driver side. I assume they switched the airbags middle or early 94.
