How good could a cheap Mechanical Keyboard that costs less than £3 from Temu really be? I needed to know, so I picked up this MageGee 60% mechanical keyboard on a deal from Temu.com, waited about a week, and here we are unboxing and taking a look at it.

Great video. I bought the same keyboard for £3 and found the same the sound as you. I'm currently modding it and have lubed the springs and switches and eliminated the pinging sound. I'm currently waiting on new switches and keycaps. For the price its a good keyboard for experimenting with modding

With what did you lubed it?

Probably Crytox 205g0 I would imagine. Plus GPL 105 oil for the springs. They are the most commonly used lubricants for keyboard switches.

@@Stagmike I bought some outemu silver linear switches also from Temu as well as some pudding keycaps. Lubed with krytox 205g0 and 105 oil for the springs. Tape modded the pcb and tuned the stabs. completely changed the look and feel of such a cheap keyboard.

This is one of the most popular keyboards on Amazon for about $30, I ordered one from Temu for $3 just to check out as well. How fun!!! You were using the switch puller on the keycaps BTW.

@woccchardt I’ve heard of people doing it, and if you google about outemu switch sockets you can probably find more info but it’s not something I’ve tried or plan to try, I have some Akko CS switches here to replace on this one just not gotten around to it yet.

Ik this is 7 months later but the keyboard did have arrows , they were at the bottom in grey and one ontop in black .

It does but you have to hold the Fn key while pressing them and it’s really inconvenient if you’re somebody that is used to using those keys a lot.

If its anything like my RK61, you just hold the FN key with your pinky and then use the arrows, or it may allow you to actually change layers so the arrow keys are always active ... which is what I tend to do.

Yeah you can, but for the amount I use arrow keys daily it’s just really inconvenient. I’m now using a 65% and it’s way better layout for me…. Although I’m now debating 75% to get the F row back haha.

Use a bit of keyboard lube on the switches. If you use a thinner oil type, you can do it by dripping a few drops in. It'll take away the ping and help the keys rebound. The lube is really cheap.

I ordered mine for the same price and it just arrived. I'm not so satisfied with it as you are though... the cable attached does not work, and the number 2 button doesn't either. I don't know what i was expecting... Maybe that it'll work..

I’d see if you can get a replacement if it’s straight up not working. Sucks to hear there’s some dodgy ones out there man, mine has luckily been fine. Hope you can sort a new one!

Had this keyboard for a while but now its starting to bug out where sometimes it types multiple letters, plus its quite loud the blue switches at least

What about the stabilisers? Oh, BTW I bought the Keychron for my Steam Deck and it quickly became my daily driver. USB C, RGB Mac/PC and Bluetooth.

I didn’t even take the keys off to look at the stabilisers yet, it was enough trouble getting the normal key off! 😂 The don’t feel too bad, but I couldn’t tell you if they’re screw in or whatever. Appreciate the offer on the switches man but I don’t think I’ll ever use tactile switches again so would rather see them go to someone who will make good use of them!

No resonance with the one I received. For the £3 I paid it's ridiculously good as a backup keyboard.

Even with the sound I had, it was still absolutely mad for £3. Which switches did you get with yours? Maybe that is the difference with the resonance sound? I've upgraded mine now in my latest video with new switches and keycaps and the difference is crazy.

You were using the switch puller as a keycap puller , the other side is the keycap puller

Depends how it’s broken I guess, if the PCB breaks you ain’t fixing it easy. I’ve been brutal with mine though if you look at the video where I modded it, and it’s fine. Can only speak for my one though you know?

Should be able to just plug into USB and it should work right away.

I've still seen it advertised here in the UK, I even saw it earlier today being advertised as free with your first order... so I'd definitely keep an eye out, but bear in mind it's only a deal for new accounts as mentioned in the video.

It is but it seems to be designed for Outemu switches which apparently have thinner contact pins so many switches won’t fit. I have read that Akko CS switches will fit but I haven’t tried it… yet! I might pick some up eventually for a future video.

@@Banproof I saw online that you can make other switches fit in Outemu sockets by clipping a small amount off the ends the pins. I tried it with some Gateron switches in an Outemu board I have and it works great.

I hear about this also, seems kinda a lot of work and also kind of scary to ruin a load of switches… did you find it pretty straight forward to complete?

@@Banproof I did find it pretty straightforward although a little tedious. I just did it for a 60% board and not all at one time. I only ruined the first switch I tried because I cut the pins too short. A small sharp pair of side snips or a nail clipper will do the job.

i just got it because it was 8 bgn so i got it plus it was an upgrade compared to my old one witch had fake blue switches and it got late so i got a full refund and for free keyboard its great
