Love the interior startup view where you show us what you do with the controls and pedals. Please make more cold starts with that view of everything you got including this deuce. Subscribed for more! What a cool channel.
Thank you! Will do once I get my hands on a few more parts. I need to rewire the lights front and rear. Is that something you would be interested in seeing?
When you put a stick in them it severely reduced their off road ability due to the fact the low range was in the automatic trans and the transfer case is one speed only,It is what it is ,enjoy
If it has the original air pack, there are two bleeders on it (not just one), I'd try bleeding the air pack first to see if that takes care of the problem, if not, you might have to replace or rebuild the air pack. What does the clutch linkage look like? Mine is hydraulic, made from random brake parts. Also, if you want the most reliability, I would highly recommend taking the time to completely re-wire it, it's just not worth the hassle of trying to figure out what's going on with the rats nest of wires that the previous five owners have left. The engine has good parts availability, and seems to be reliable, so I wouldn't bother swapping it so long as those things hold true. I know M-35s can have a Cummins 5.9 swapped in somewhat easily, but I don't know about this one.
Not sure to be honest, I know of one under the passenger side in front of the rear tire. I bled that one a few times. it eqs full of water. Not sure if the whole system is compromised or not. I will be rewiring it eventually.ost of the original wire were cut. I won't be swapping it until it decides to eat itself. Thanks.
It's a 302 gmc straight six. Originally had a 4 speed hydromatic in it. This truck uses a 24 volt system all the way around. Someone swapped the distributor and coil for a 12 vilt civvy coil and distributor. Sorry I'm on my wife's account ATM....
It does have a 5spd Clark. No one seems yo know anything about it lol. Its definitely 12v now. So much was cut and left. Finding burnt wires everywhere. Guessing the previous owner found out the hard way and just swapped to a 12v system.
Yeah it's a 302. Gmc straight six. Kinda wish it had the cadillac hydro in it but ill suffer with the clunky 5 spd for now. Do you anything about the brakes by chance? Somehow air is being pushed into the brake reservoir and pushing brake fluid out
@@PeakAcres the 2 things these trucks always had problems with was the brakes and the trans your better off with that Clarke 5 speed. It’s clunky but bullet proof. And cheap to fix. Or replace.... the old Clark’s eaton 5 speeds new process and Muncie all use the GM 4 bolt pattern so almost any old 4 or 5 speed will go in..... the air over hydraulic brakes are a military standard system. You can use the air pack from an m35 which is still available. And the single circuit brake master cylinder is an off the shelf part. International harvester used them on the old loadstars...... just make sure your water pump is good. These 302s have a weak spot in the head that’s prone to warping or cracking...... mine warped recently. I’m the same guy from earlier. On my own account now.
Yeah I found the videos. Very helpful. I have good air pressure but when I apply the brakes pedal goes to the floor and brake fluid comes out of the reservoir cap and I lose pedal pressure.
I’m sorry friend but your deuce would cost more to repair than it’s worth. I recently purchased a 1966 deuce with a multi fuel Diesel engine. Everything works on it for $1525. I woke it up after being parked for 7 years. With two new batteries and bleeding the brakes with DOT 5 it runs great. Sell yours for scrap, and keep your eyes on GSA Auctions. Good luck.
A specific manual for t cases. Is needed MVCC - Military Vehicle Collectors club should have archive of reprinted Serv man's and Div Repair shop man with all specific tolerances and adjustments for rebuilding.and testing before installation..
@@PeakAcres Used trucks of same type in Nebraska Truck Salvage / Blue and Gray 18 wheeler logo box van , has 200 fifty model GI trucks they have pictures.
Call McLoed Racing they built my 302's 40lb wheel and said the bolt pattern is the same as any big block Chevy crank .So any big block from 64 to vortec era, and the 366's +427's out of 2 tons should fit AND count the ring gear teeth for the starter !!
The Canadian Army had lots of these trucks, they had gas engines and surprisingly an automatic transmission. That one is actually in good shape considering it's age.
I'm pretty sure this one had an auto originally but it was swapped for that Clark 5 speed manual. Thanks for commenting, I was surprised this one wasn't totally rotted out from sitting so long.
@@PeakAcres They used to call these Cadillac's because of its Automatic transmission and also I think the Cadillac division of GM may have had some involvement in production. 10 or 15 years ago you would see the odd one still being used as water or fuel trucks in the logging industry but very few are left up here now.
That's awesome.. glad some of these old girls are still being used. Haven't seen any running ones around me except the few sitting in a field or in an old junk lot.
You missed the one or two where he described having the same problem on his truck . It's from sitting to long being unused condensation builds and crud screws up the valves and springs, fittings ECT.But there is a good possibility that you can use a vacuum booster setup off a late 60's early 70's two ton truck with two or three axel's all hydraulic brakes must be gas powered .Study system first get repair manuals make diagrams talk to older mechanics about them!!
Makes sense. It's in the booster then. We have an Inland Truck place that's sells or can get all sorts of parts like this. I'll watch more vids and see where I can pick up a manual for this thing. Finding ol timers is a rarity these days. I'm in Montana up in the mountains, life expectancy for the old timers here isn't that long. Mostly old miners, loggers or ranchers.
Very cool...engine swap may be unnecessary . get it running correctly and get it all fixed..it lasted this long...its not even at it half life...good luck..
Thanks for the comment. I'll be fine tuning it in the spring. I'm in the process of rounding up parts right now. Hopefully getting in running in top top shape in the near future
I'm sculpting one of these models....about the size of a hot wheel, maybe a little bigger....the troop carrier version....I remember seeing long convoys of these beasts when I was a kid living on military bases....awesome machines
I bought my m211 from a museum for 200 bucks runs and drives has no brakes and still has the factory engine and automatic transmission bought mine because my grandfather drove the same kind when he was in Korea mine was made the same year he was drafted 1952
You can guess the automatic has been swapped for a sm420 tcase doesn't work properly because of missing auto control linkage.Home made linkage is a must. Find service manuals for 211,135,and all 52,plus at military vehicle collector's club, spare parts are Boyce equipment --Ogden utah
Thanks. I will see if I can get a hold of a manual for it. It has a manual linkage made thats next to the manual shifter but I'm npt sure it totally engages. That and does the sm420 have a banjo type clutch?
@@PeakAcres Well it's mostly a stock drop-in,mine is a 64 GMC Viking 50 ton and a half --bellhousing ,starter sm420, lever type hand e brake on rear of trans, the fly wheel for this to fit is for a BBC 396-454 crank pattern..Bellcrank,disk , pressure plate stock, through out bearing too..Tcase is single speed,3 different shift rods no detents to set output shafts. Shaft a,drive shaft b one axel drive rear, shaft c front and rear--rear axles engaged, shafts will not stay engaged no detents to hold shafts in gear spring return to neutral when released.
I've got the 302 GMC six with a Rochester twin jet two barrel . 11" BBC clutch and 40lb flywheel,it all bolts on from the mid 60's , ton and a half to two tons with six cylinder power, screw around with a tape measure and even the drive shafts can be reused, shrinking or stretching them...
Memphis Equipment has truck manuals for these. I have the same truck, restoring it currently. To make the brakes like new it was around $1500. That does not include the airpack. Purchased almost all the mechanical parts I needed right from them.
Thanks I'll have to check them out. My airpack seems to hold air just fine. Just hoping it's the master cylinder. I'll post another video on it in about a month. I have tons of pre winter projects to finish before the snow flys.
