Great buy! Maintenace, maintenance, maintenance treat it good and it will treat you good. Get a monitor to monitor temps, do a coolant flush, blue spring mod, make the egr fall off, and a straight pipe and that thing will be good to go
6.0’s are great engines. It has the performance of the newer diesels, with the relative simplicity of the older engines. Cheaper to fix than a 6.7. Can be very reliable, but most people are not educated on it enough to get there. Lots of kids beating on these things ‘cause it’s a hot rod.
You’re supposed to check the transmission fluid with the engine running and on level ground. Blow-by really checks the condition of your piston rings and if they’re passing compression gases. Nice truck overall though. You really need to do what Bill Hewitt called “dealerproofing” the engine. He’d build it to how ford should’ve made it. Unfortunately he passed away a few days ago.
@@powerstrokecentral, also if you do any major engine work to it then it’s better to either pull the motor out or remove the cab. Doing head gaskets can be done with the engine in the truck and the cab on but it’s quite difficult.
@@powerstrokecentral, cool. They’re not hard engines to diagnose, just hard to work on because of lack of space. That front driveshaft being out tells me you probably have bound up u-joints. That’s pretty common on the double carden joint on the front driveshaft.
Cant wait for 6.0 content. I have a tuned 7.3 extended cab longbed that I built from watching videos you made. Pretty much did everything you did to your 7.3. I got an offer I couldn't refuse on a stock crewcab longbed low milage 6.0 and its slow as hell stock compared to the tuned 7.3. I know its potential though, so looking forward to building.
I bought mine new in 2004 so as of this writing, I am about to reach the 20 year mark for owning it. I hear so much about how bad a 6.0 is but the only thing replaced on the engine was the turbo and that was under warranty. The reason for purchase was to tow a heavy travel trailer. I still have and tow the same trailer. So at this point, I definitely got what I wanted out of it.
I just picked up a 03 f350 regular cab dually 6.0 and am looking to do preventative maintenance to keep it ruining good for a long time. A series on “must do maintenance” would be great🔥
I run nothing but 6.0s. Truck source diesel has helped out alot with some of my upgrades. When i buy a 6.0. First thing i do. I do a oil cooler replacement or clean out. Coolant flush. Blue spring mod. Change fuel filters. Then run it. And HPOP are only a issue on the early models. Not the 05 and up
Hpop isn’t actually that common on these motors. I have replaced a few because of really extended oil changes. What actually does go bad in the high pressure oil system is the high pressure oil plugs replaced hundreds of those. If it don’t start warm but does when it’s cold and oil is thick most likely the plugs pull the icp sensor and put a air fitting add air to the system and listen to where it’s leaking from
Nice find and price. Had a new '04 and then a '06 for 8 yeara til my '17 F350 6.7L. Would dump Archoil 9100 and their fuel additive, prior to servicing filters and fluids. Look forward to the build.
its great man. just bought a steel body 6.7 the beginning of the week last week and a 6.0 that weekend. so we both have them haha. love em both to death
Id use archoil 6400 for the fuel system clean out. And also when you change the oil use archoil oil stiction. Its especially needed on these 7.3s and 6.0s.. Hotshots is also a great fuel additive and lubricant (and I what I was using) but archoil is the best
Look into using ATF add to gas, at first I did not believe, but after using I am a believer. Look it up, you will understand, dont waste money on Archoil or other additives.
I run a half bottle of marvel mystery oil and a can of seafoam in the tank then Remove the fuel filter cover and filter, dump a can of seafoam in the fuel filter housing replace the filter and cap. Warm the truck up then hammer down and the seafoam and marvel mystery oil will lube the injectors and the seafoam will flush out the crap in the system. It will help unstick the injectors. It works great on my 6.0.
Good find 6.0's are not as bad as they are talked about. Most are drivin harder than they should be. As far as the 1/4 fuel tank issue it's the same as a 7.3 tank issue - the pickup screen is broken off. With most diesel tanks every 1/4 of the tank is 9 gallons. That being said he did say the truck sat off and on so more than likely you have slime/algae in the tank now that you have a full tank you should treat the tank so it cleans the whole tank before you drop it and fix the pickup screen issue
@@powerstrokecentral their is many products out one that I use is - power service clear diesel. It removes everything in the tank and puts it in your filter. Recommend replacing fuel filters after treatment. 6.0 has 2 fuel filters. I use clear diesel 2 times a year to keep tank clean and change fuel filters after 2 tanks to make sure filters catch anything that has not been picked up. Side note I own a 2000 F350 7.3 366000 miles
okay awesome thank you my man i appreciate it. i just recently changed my oil oil filter and tranny fluid on it and fuel filters are next @@mikeestrella2
@@powerstrokecentral I would definitely treat fuel tank before you change filters or you will be charging filters too early. Let the old ones do some work before changing. I've watched so much of your content and can't wait for all the upgrades to come on the 6.0. don't forget to check your limited slip clutches in the rear axle when you change the fluid. If bad that would be the best time to change them out. It's about a 2 hour job for the first time ever replacing them and the same time and parts for your 7.3 if needed
$4200 isn’t a bad price for a stock 6.0 182k miles I bought my King Ranch 6.0 with 147k miles back in December for the same price if there’s a ticking coming from the motor though check your injectors cause I had 2 injectors in my injector knocking and when I changed them the tick went away I would also recommend getting 6.4/6.7 mirrors for that truck they have way better visibility out of them than the older mirrors
I have a 7.3 and it was doing the same squeak noise I got some belt squeak spray and put it on the alternator belt and it has been fine for the last 2 months
the first 15 year or so of the life of this truck, it was probably owned by an old man that babied it...I live in a small farm town and lots of old farmers got these new and actually take care of them and have 250,000+ miles on them and have had little to no problems...original head gaskets, head bolts, turbo, etc.. it's not unusual to have to reseal the high pressure oil system every 10-13 years, of course you'll have some minor engine oil leaks with age, don't rule out a new oil cooler/ EGR cooler every 15 years....I would probably replace the fuel injectors and cups every 250,000 miles to be safe on a 6.0, be gently if you unplug the FICM as the plastic wiring clips can snap making the wiring plug-ins loose from then on.... great buy, looking forward to the video series on this awesome 6.0... + it's a Texas salt free truck, that will eliminate all the rust related issues that plague any older vehicle...
Great find, especially with the single cab!!! love that look! mine is totally stock as well, for now I am doing the blue spring upgrade and 4" Pro Flo Exhaust! Nothing else sounds like a true diesel! 6.0 all the way ahaha I am starting a separate channel for my 6.0 build, called VT356! Cheers buddy and congrats again!
to see if its the belt put belt conditioner on it snd see if the squeak goes away then if it does could just need a new belt if the belt tensioner was bad your belt will keep ripping and you would know if it was bad
I purchased a 6.0 Excursion Saturday. Will be following your build closely. Are you going to mod until head gaskets blow or will you start with head studs?
first egr delete and turbo back then do the minor maintenance stuff to it like fix the 4wd and front wheel bearing and breaks then put stage 3 injectors and turbo and bullet proof
6.0 sound great if not one of the best sounding diesels but man the owners just can't admit they are naturally out the manufacturer not good engines, " u just have to bulletproof them " , " u just have to maintain them " , why cant yall just admit its a garbage engine . even in these comment sections, i see a whole lot of 6.0 owners trying to say they are reliable if u take care of them which say just isnt true . 6.0 and 6.4 are absolutely terrible motors plain and simple but if u wanna blow tens of thousands on a truck this is the perfect truck for u .
Ive owned two. Never had major issue. I deleted and took care of them. I run a 6.4l now with no issues. One of the guys that bought my 6.0 lives in town and is still running it. Only major issue he had was transmission rebuid at 200k. Seeing lots of 6.7s now for parts on FB marketplace. Won't ever buy into those.
@@powerstrokecentral if there wasn’t fluid in it, it wouldn’t shift lol. Not trying to hate but if you’re gonna make informative videos which you do you gotta do stuff correctly
@@powerstrokecentral Thanks Bro! Everything is fine here, i've been watching all your vids here on the Powerstroke and I wanted to comment but it's just that I don't know enough about the 7.3s to leave an intelligent comment haha! Your videos are Always the Best!... and Good to see Zachhack in ya videos a few weeks ago! Say Hi. Have a great week and God bless!
Yeah, the 6.0 is least problematic engine. I heard Bill Hewitt the founder of Powerstroke Specialty has passed away due to heart failure instead of heart attack. I just saw it on Facebook from Archoil.
@@powerstrokecentral with what parts like sinister diesel? Charge pipes, all that? So like EGR delete, cat and muffler delete, cold air intake, charge pipes?
2023 people still don't know what bulletproof diesel means, obviously we're all aware 6.0 came out the factory handicap but if you have the money to bulletproof it from jumpstreet problem solved at this point we shouldn't be hearing notions of 6.0 or unreliable or 6.0 or bad, smh if you don't have the money to bullet proof it then stay go get another one
it has good bones. I would buy it. Buying a stock 6.0 is the way to go because it's basically an empty canvas and only factory hands have touched the motor/trans.
You should really do a coolant flush while ur at it, I heard you say the coolant is really dirty which causes a lot of problems in the cooling system mainly the oil cooler
