Hopefully winter just won't come this year.... that might happen... right?

I bought a 2004 manual Z4 in 2013. Had to replace my top motor (in 2016, I think). I’ve replaced most of the rubber bushings, etc. but otherwise no major mechanical repairs. Oh - had to replace both cup holders (the plastic just got brittle). But I hate them - the hot coffee is above me which makes me nervous. I got an aftermarket one that sits on the floor. Going into last winter I thought I was going to sell my AWD SUV, so I picked up some used wheels and a set of Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 run flats. I’m southeast of you, so I get some snow, but every snowfall melts before the next - so I didn’t get a lot of time driving on snow. But it was fine. I’ll be watching to see how you polish the headlights and the other fixes and improvements you make (my gear cluster is still clear; not sure what you’re experiencing). The auto-dimming rear view mirror is a known weakness - the liquid crystal leaks out and the mirror won’t auto-dim anymore. I got a quote for $750 to replace it; even the BMW dealer said it wasn’t worth it, so I just squint when looking into it at night. And the front air dam is low - my son, my wife and I have all bounced it off of a steeply angled driveway/road intersection, and I needed to spend some $ at a body shop getting it fixed. It’s always a little scraped, which I live with. Enjoy!

Thanks for taking the time too share! I wish this one was a stick, but it was too good of a deal too pass up. I think I'm going too replace the cup holders as well just for looks. I can't see myself ever trusting them however. I'm not sure what too do about the headlights yet. Will have too do more research. I got Firestone winterforce 2s. Cheapest I could find like 480 for a set thru work. Hopefully it's not too squirrelly in the snow🤷🏼‍♂️ time will tell!

Please don’t abuse it. I have a 2004 2.5i 5 speed manual with 89k miles currently. Hasn’t needed any repairs since new. Never any leaks. Just oil changes, tires, brakes, and batteries. You can get some aftermarket headlights cheap on eBay. Might be better. Not sure you can re seal rear window. I believe you have to buy whole new top. That too doesn’t look dirty at all.

I've looked into it. I will be able to reseal it with RTV and cock too make it seal. Top has some stains on it that need too get scrubbed out. It won't be as "proper as OEM" but it will be alot cheaper. It will be driven the way it was ment to be driven. I'll look into those headlights on ebay

Austin. Congrats Man! Love the new ride. Def performance on wheels. Yes better than the Forte GT. Just be careful when the snow starts flying. Look forward to the upcoming videos. Can’t wait to see what you end up doing to the car.

Great video Austin. For the $$$ it’s a lot of car. I’m sure it can be improved a lot, by fixing all the things you pointed out. 👍 Is the Z4 a manual or auto ? More driver engagement with a manual… But probably most sales were autos… 🤷🏻‍♂️
@PerformanceOnWheels

This one is an auto unfortunately. I was looking for a stick but this was too good of a deal too pass up.

No the car is very comfortable. And a sports car is supposed to have a stiff suspension
@PerformanceOnWheels
@PerformanceOnWheels Год назад
Not that stiff. It's too stiff, I've been in plenty of sports cars.

Nowhere to put anything? Large center storage. Huge trunk.
@PerformanceOnWheels
@PerformanceOnWheels Год назад
What about a phone or a wallet or even sun glasses? Center storage is not easy to access while driving

And no this is not a “second generation”. The z3 was a completely different car.
@PerformanceOnWheels
@PerformanceOnWheels Год назад
Thanks for pointing it out. The point was second generation "z" car. That however is not necessarily true as the low production Z1 was a thing in the early 90's if the memory is correct. Anywho.... Perfection is over the next hill.

I had an '07 2.0 e85, worst car I ever owned, in 12 months it needed, new abs pump £2090, timing chain & tensioners, £500approx plus new discs & calipers, new lower front suspension arms and bushes, both rear drop links, both rear springs, all this on a car with 55,000 miles, a nightmare.

We don't even get the 2.0 here in the US

@@PerformanceOnWheels You're lucky, it's rubbish, slow and unreliable. I now have an e89, 28i which is fantastic, I'm on my second one. better in every respect than the e85.
@PerformanceOnWheels
@PerformanceOnWheels Год назад
That's too bad. Don't you guys get a 2.2 as well?

No you don’t have to program battery…
@PerformanceOnWheels
@PerformanceOnWheels Год назад
If the battery is replaced it has to be programed into the system by a bmw specific tool. Otherwise it will sometimes throw a cel or air bag code. In this case air bag code which states battery low voltage. Meaning the battery was replaced by the previous owner with the key in the ignition.

The interior is incredibly specious for a two seater convertible… clearly you’ve never been in a Miata or s2000

I have actually driven both.

@@PerformanceOnWheels sorry to hear this. I have a 2004 Z4 2.5 manny tranny with 90k miles. BTW, I used to ice race my 2017 M2 - I used the Michelin performance snow tires. As long as I had enough ground clearance the car was great on snow covered roads in upstate NY.
