Think of the warning light at 12:32 as an ECG graph, and it makes sense. If it were yellow, it would basically be telling you to get the car serviced. In red, it can be a whole variety of things; basically, a general "Get this thing to the dealer ASAP so that he can sort out what's going on" thing. Edit: "Electronic Fault Warning Light".

I owned a stepway about 5 years ago as a cheap runabout. I absolutely loved it for all the reasons most people would hate it. I found it comical for it's cheapness. It sounded like the horn was underneath the passenger seat and scared the shit out of me when I pressed it, if I went round a bend too quickly the fuel door would open and stay open until I stopped and closed it. And the seatbelt warning bing on the passenger seat would go off if I put anything heavier than a pen on it. I found it quirky. It never let me down once in 3 years of ownership

Dacia engineers really did a good job with the new Dacia 2023 models that look very good. I have a Logan 2022 LPG with the best fuel economy compared to gasoline/diesel, and the equipment is sufficient and useful at a price of €16,000

Definitely not a brand for badge snobs but a smart buy if you can look past the badge. Personally I owned a first gen Logan which was as basic as a model T. :)) In 9 years of owning it it I basically had zero issues with it even though I bought it when it was 6 years old. Truly the cheapest way of motoring in modern days and it was the reason I liked it so much. Dirt cheap to run and repair even by eastern European standards. And by the way, all but the latest Dacia models were based on the old Renault Clio 2 platform.

I've driven a Logan for the last 7 years . (The Logan is the "estate" version of the Sandero.) It has never given me one minute of trouble in all that time. A great car. I will be buying its replacement, the Jogger, in several years time when my Logan finally bites the dust.

Its a car for people who just want a car and arent bothered about keeping up with the jones's, and it really is quite a good car. sure its like mid 00s renault but without the annoying atm key fob or the flaky electronics, and hopefully much better built than the 00s renaults

That light is just a service light if its amber. The amber light can be cleared with pressing the pedals a certain way

the orange light in the box on the left with a squiggly line, often shows that there is a problem with the electrics. But in all honesty ours came on as soon as it needed a service. So once the service was done, reset and all ok. It's when it is replaced with a red one that is more concerning. No doubt needed new spark plugs.

Just good, honest cars. Basically an old clio under the skin. Timing belt has a couple years in it but the 1.5 renault diesel is a very reliable unit.

I've got a petrol engined 2014 Stepway I've owned since new. It's been incredibly reliable and cheap to run. It's showing its age a bit now and I suspect it'll need work when I next get it MOTd, but I love it to bits, and you can prise it out of my cold, dead hands. :)

the thing with these sort of cars, Dacia especially, is the way it was treated, if you did the service in time, with mediocre parts, took care of it, it will last you decades, if you cheap up and abuse it then it will turn to shit instantly, especially if you start fitting after market accessories. my dad is at his 2nd Logan, he got a brand new 2022 LPG one, he is over the moon excited with it!

Man, I have the same make, model and build year. I bought this one 2 years ago for almost 8k, tip-top shape, well maintained and another 1.5 years of parts insurance at a renault dealer. Haven't had any issues with it, other than replacing a worn out door rubber. It still runs amazing to this day. To the people who say Old Dacia's are shit and unreliable, they need to stop buying them from people who treated them like such.

I really like the Dacia range, it offers no frills, honest, and very importantly in todays wacky economy, sensibly priced and value for money vehicles. It was these very same principles that endeared me to the Škoda brand during my childhood years, although Škoda auto have now revamped their image and specifications, sadly the price list reflects this. It is a breath of fresh air to see a genuine bargain basement segment remaining, amidst ever increasing brand price lists. As always, great video Matt, this Dacia now looks amazing.

In the first 5 years normally nothing happens, the next 5 years however will be interesting. Because on used car market sites, you hardly find a Dacia or even Renault with more than 200.000 kilometers.

Nice surprize to see it with a diesel. In South Africa they are Renault Sandero and only 1.6 petrol and later before discontinued, a 999cc turbo, Those diesels engines are quite punchy!

Battery should’ve been changed mate. That’s a Rombat battery, made in Romania, where the car is made as well, and they come fitted with those from factory. So that’s probably the genuine battery right there. 10 years old one. That’s why you needed jumpstarted.

97,000 miles for a 10 year old car in America is considered to be low miles. For an example, my wife's 2013 Ford Escape has 144,000 miles, which is about average. My 2013 Volvo XC90 just hit 220,000 miles and is still going strong. I would definitely consider my 10 year old Volvo to have high mileage.

I'm beginning to see a trend in the kind of cars that you have been showing on the High Peaks channel. The y are makes and models that are at the cheap end of the market and represent good value. Basic and plain but reliable due to simplicity and trouble free ,if properly serviced, they present good opportunities for your profit and quick sales. Given the general bias against French motors the Dacias and the original Citroen C1 city cars are still great for the no-nonsense motoring public. I've bought such cars for much less than the first year depreciation on the vaunted German made cars that don't seem very reliable. I've just read that the depreciation on the top EV's is so bad it's like throwing a pound coin out of the window everytime the odometer turns on each mile.

Just, HOW? similar car in Portugal (but not even stepway, it´s 1.5 comfort), the cheapest is 6500 Euros and it has 585 000 km, it looks just as you would expect it to look, but, gotta hand it to them, that is a strong car to still be kicking, no lights on the dash either!

That’s a misfire light meaning the spark plugs have gone bad had the same problem in my Duster it went off when I changed the spark plugs

There are no spark plugs here, it's a diesel. Glow plugs if anything, but those shouldn't cause a misfire since you only use them for cold starts

Years ago, I had a business trip to France. So bored I was that I took the owner's handbook (in French) of my rental Renault to read it. The three mountains peak tell-tale light had written "Impératif de arrêter immédiatement" or Imperative to stop immediately. I could only see Louis de Funès mimics saying that while driving a Citroën DS along the French countryside. 😂 Can't take those lights seriously, sorry 🤡

Yet again Matt, another fabulous and fun car review… keep them coming, we all love them & the way you present them 👌 One funny thing though; You are talking us through a Dacia Sandero Stepway… but in your write up about this (in the ‘Read more’ section) it states: “Today, I've bought a Mercedes S320 long wheelbase for just £1,500, let's see what it's like...” 🤔😂 We may have a slight ‘cut n paste’ edit ‘fluff up’ lol 😂 Unless… you transformed your Merc S320 into a Dacia Sandero - if so, your mechanics did a great job! May have been better though, if, they had transformed a Dacia into a Merc… 😉

@@adamgabriel730 Maybe you're not aware of the hills that we have were we live. Plus you can be doing 120km/h up a hill in 5th and have to keep dropping gears. The car is a little gutless.

On my 2014 Citroen Cactus a replacement diesel dpf cost me £1000 which needs doing about every 100.000 miles, when I saw the light come up on the video I thought DPF.

Yes he's right. It's a rebadged Renault in Romania, a copy of Clip 3. They are reliable cars and surprisingly comfortable suspension. I will take the 1.5dci any time. But the price he's talking about is a nono,

sorry, quick question: at 11:40 why were you worried about specific lights on dash before starting up the engine? what's strange about that situation is that they didn't all light up at that point. And I know that the same lights stayed on even after you'd started the engine, which confirms the engine issue and the undetermined electrical fault (that red graph light). But I was curious why you'd started noting the lights on dash before starting the engine, did you somehow know that they would remain on after starting it up?

Why is there such a difference in road tax price compaired to my Duster that has the same 1460cc diesel enging in it? £20 pound a year as against £180 for the Duster! really boils my blood!! That red light comes on when the service is due, as does the engine management too & it shows that the oil is too thin & the end of its life!!😄👍Ps, nice long video!!.

I've read somewhere that some very early Dacias were recalled to be refinished due to premature rust appearing on the sills and seams, but I may be wrong. That being said, I have noticed some Dusters showing corrosion along the sills now, with silver paint falling off the wheels on steel-wheeled versions. Are you buying any cheap Dusters soon?

Early Dusters were made in India and did indeed suffer from early corrosion. Now they’re produced in a state of the art factory in Romania and seem to be very well made. We have one in the family and I can testify that they are certainly very well undersealed in the wheelarches and on the underbody, unlike pretty much all other modern cars with minimal protection. I expect it to last pretty well in terms of bodywork, pretty much like the French cars they’re based on.
