@@KuntalGhosh The car doesn’t provide the best feature but with the price, it’s quite reliable for mid class people, specially for overpopulation country like India.
Something tells me those pads weren't for aches and pains, but for dehumidifying the car. Three of them at once is a bit extreme; maybe the scuttle was blocked with leaves and detritus, and water ended up coming into the cabin, so they were used to help dry the interior out.
Yep ,its very famous here in India my uncle had it and had travelled in them very often too Good car i must say you get what you see for a small amount of money and that just what people here want, cheap small and reliable
I'm glad you've gone back to the original format Matt. ... I enjoy these walkaround tours and your first impressions and funny comments. .. Please carry on like this - if it ain't broken, don't fix it !!
Used to knock those little beauties out from a Suzuki dealership back in the day. Unbelievable demand for such a basic car! That would still retail now at £2495 if you had the inclination to go balls deep with it! Great advice to crack on and deal with issues rather than procrastinating and allowing them to develop. 👌
Basic little nugget cars are an absolute godsend for when your daily driver/eternal project car is on axle stands yet again. I'm dying to buy a cheap as tits Panda or Alto for when I'm doing big jobs on my Civic
I live in Japan and drive a 2008 Alto auto with just 55,000km. It still drives and smells like new and is perfect for nipping round the small streets of Kyoto. It has 4 electric windows, A/C, electric folding mirrors. it even sits comfortably on the highway between 80-100KPH. They're also surprisingly spacious. I'm 6 foot and easily have enough head space when driving.
Great story! They sell millions of these cars in india as the maruti Suzuki. Back in the day 1988 in india we drove from Delhi to Punjab approx 350 miles. Nothing too unusual in that but there were 6 of us in the car, my uncle, and aunties and cousin all large people, thankfully the my mum, my self and other cousin were thin, so did balance out. But still hard to believe how me made that journey
Same thing in Pakistan these altos and the old mehrans are super common there. We had a old alto vxr back in 2014 and did the same thing it's standard there to fit a minimum of 6 people in a car 😂😂even I went a few months ago and although they got rid of the alto a while ago we now have a daihatsu cuore and we got 7 people in that car 🤣🤣and we also have a Honda brv and got 12 in that car it's meant to be a 7 seater
@@TheSiZaGaming just Suzuki there as far as I know. But I don't live in Pakistan so I don't know all the brands when I went this time half the local built cars there I didn't know 🤣🤣
This was mine and many Indians first car, mine was a 2006 model and it ran perfectly for 15 years after which we had to return it back to dealership due to pollution laws, but the car was running amazing even in its 15th year and was super cheap to maintain for me as a college student. Love this car❤
here in INDIA i have a 2008 ALTO K10 with a 1 litre unit in it....... is is buttery smooth to this day.....just 28000 miles on the clock. its such a gem to drive.
So pleased you are continuing to look at all classes of cars. Suzuki is a big brand down under with the latest Swift being a best seller. Although much better finished , and much safer, they still remain utterly reliable and the Swift Sport which I have is more than rapid. They are much cheaper than in the UK. A new swift sport was less than 15000 pounds. Do you have import duty or tariffs on some cars ? 👍 still the best car channel on RU-vid.
This was one of India best selling cars. It is built to a price but it costs peanuts to run. After a few years, body flex sets in and the interiors disintegrates but they carry on battle scarred. Most impressive are how their lightness enables them to tackle Himalayan mountain roads with aplomb! We were cautious with our Kodiaqs due to their bulk and lower profile tyres! These were like gnats, their lightness and high profiles tyres allow them to fly across ruts and weave in and out
the indian version build quality was not upto standards back then same happening here in pakistan we prefer japanese import instead of ckd assembled cars but know india have improve but still brands like suzuki toyota lacking in quality depatment specifically in india
@@ebbies2317 no Indian version had great built quality in the past Maruti Suzuki models. But ever since the government sold their shares back to Suzuki and it became a completed Suzuki subsidiary the quality went down. The quality of the Indian cars like Tata and Mahindra went up though.
@@aasamspb967eh, tata build quality and reliability is questionable, though Mahindra is doing almost everything right, all the basics are solid in those cars
@@aasamspb967 i know what u coming from but just compare the pakistan suzuki imports to such like maruti suzuki you will know the big compromise in quality im talking pre 2010 for example just compare 2008 alto we had 1000cc alto vxr compare to the local imauti version was just using same 800cc engine of mehran and they didnt use the euro efi technology for so long looking over this i think your market done well in last 10 decades
@@confused.cat.Tatas are literally tanks on roads. And with 5 star ratings. There are dozens of vids of accidents in which the other car is so totalled but the Tata is merely dented!😮
One of the most common car here in Nagaland, but we only get manual transmission. This car is loved by the people of hills as it gives a good mileage + low maintenance and can go about anywhere, even offroading. People travel from Village to city and it still runs smoothly after doing 200k km. Still a high demand car.
The interior definely looks so much better than the ones sold in South America. I have a 2014 model, and it looks a bit outdated compared to this one. Still, very very realiable. I have it since it went out of the dealer, and only did the basic maintenance. More than 128k km and it keeps going after very long trips and other rough uses. ;)
I owned a 1999 1.0 Aulto and it was a fabulous little car and since had four Suzuki’s all of which were good dependable cars. If I remember correctly it did around 60mpg and that period of Aulto were made in India.
@@raeessss They ok! For a mini car that you want just for transport is all you need/want,long distance can be annoying but,for the price, mpg, decent reliability etc it's worth a buy. I'd like to see the new design :)
That's the Indian spec 1.1L 4cyl engine, found in early gen WagonR also. No automatic here, manuals. They are cheap as hell to maintain, & fun to rev. No wonder people still comb through used car market for these gems. Later the 1.1 got replaced by the 1.0L 3cyl K10B & currently K10C, and also the legendary F8D from Maruti 800, which as Alto 800 recently got discontinued.
I dont know what others say about this car It has got emotions that I bet every family in India knows about.... This car has gotten us to places where we never thought we would go to.. This was the most popular pick for families, it was cheap and easily gets the job done... even tho many now have modern suvs and sedans , ppl still dont't sell their altos cuz it has become a family member..
This is by far the cleanest Alto I have seen. Man, this is a CAR. My friend had his for 15 years but had to give it away because of the fitness laws in Delhi. It didn't have power steering, wasn't quite reliable at the end, and the radio only worked if you pressed the horn at a certain angle. The car wasn't short of problems, but we have many fond memories as well.
I have absolutely no interest in cars, I barley like to drive my own but for some reason you have become my new top gear. Before it got shit obviously 😂😂😂
I owned an Alto Vxi 2009 for ~10 years. Surprising to see that suzuki used to give tachometere and SRS dual airbag back in 2006 in Alto LX in Europe. They started giving it here in India recently even for higher segment cars and that too after govt. made it compulsory. Shows how much they cared about safety of Indians.
Had 2 Altos in the past - first the same age as the one in the video, but manual, and the 2nd one of the newer models. Both were fun to drive with a wheel on each corner road holding was great - nearly as much fun as an original mini. Know what you mean about small autos - currently looking for one for my daughter and that would have been ideal!! lol
Small, light, nimble, low powered cars can be so much fun. I'm 64 and still ride fast bikes Yamaha R1 and other stuff, my daily driver is a 2014 Fiat Panda 875cc Turbo Twin Air auto. For your daughter, maybe a Fiat 500 Twin Air auto. The Panda 4x4 is cool also. Good luck.
Wow... Great to see this on the channel. You really don't see many of them about anymore! My mom bought one of these new (manual) in 2003. GL in that very blue! I'm only 27, but just seeing inside takes me back to being 7 again and the excitement of being in the Suzuki dealer checking out the interior! Amazing how far things have come in 20 years
Hey I'm a fan from India and I love your content. This little car is one among the most popular first cars for learners in India. We get the manuals for around the same price and trust me this machine can outlive the competition with cheap maintenance.
I think these cars were built in India by Maruti in a JV with Suzuki. They didnt need rustproofing in most of India, hence the rust.. Still good little cars though and fairly tough
My wife bought one of those new. Brilliant wee car for town and short journeys , never had a problem with it, but on the motorway it was screaming at 50mph. I think the auto box needed another gear
Hi I like the car videos you put on RU-vid! I am a Muslim but I didn't quite like the way you threw that bible on the floor of the car! You may not be a believer but there is no harm to be respectful towards holy books! I believe you have customers who are believers & non believers so there is no harm to be respectful towards your customers faith! I wish you all the best!
I take your point Shahan. That was a Gideon New Testament. The Gideons distribute free Christian literature to hotels, prisons, schools and have been a help to many over many years.
Brake lines were known for corrsion too. Check those carefuly as they are commonly overlooked by testers. The 1.1 maruti engine is not bad for an indian made engine. They are pretty good but theres a fair few GM/vauxhall parts on them that deteriorate quite quickly.
Ray-Ban's and a bible......just need two brothers in black and white suits and that car would be on a "mission from god"! 😂😂😂😂 "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses." "Hit it."
Our second car was a Suzuki Alto. Bought new in 2009. Amazing car. Weighed nothing so was actually nippy. Fuel consumption and reliability were top notch. On the motorway it was fast and scary as hell. Loved it.
Good to see the walk around back in the video. Doesnt have to be super long imo but definetely better then no walk around like in the Kia video! Anyway love your video's keep up the good work! ✌️
My mother had one of these. Same color. Thanks for the memory lane! I thought those little 'cushion-like' items at 6:08 were against moist in the car (makes sense, given the mold the car later collected)?
Changed my view on cheap small cars over the past few years. One of my jobs involves visiting anything from remote farms to really deprived areas. Having a little sh*t box that no one wants to steal or I’m not too worried getting scraped has it’s advantages.
A Love the content Matt but disappointed the way you twice threw the bible on the car floor. Seemed quite disrespectful. I'm a Muslim but hate to see any holy books being handled that way.
I had a Suzuki Celerio 68reg which replaced the Alto , great little car 100 percent reliable did about 45,000 miles trouble free. Maybe you should do a video on a Celerio.
all Suzuki cars are made in India and after then they are exported to other countries , in India MARUTI SUZUKI alto came in year 2000 with 0.8L , 1.0L and 1.1L all manual trans and starting price of around 2.5k pound to 5.5k pounds .
In INDIA every other house have a Suzuki Alto they sell these in butt load here in India. they discontinued these model though.they are selling the face lift Alto K10 now that too will get discontinued these year here in India because they are not really selling as good as they used to as People's Income is getting higher people are shifting towards SUVs and other big cars here in India .
Mine was called the Silver Flash. Oh the irony. Did just under 9000 miles in 8 months as my daily commute, which was a 75 mile round trip on dual carriageways and fast A roads. Never let me down. Screamed at 70mph but still gave me over 50mpg, but it was the 5 speed manual. Came with one key, got the second cut at Timpson's for £30. Suzuki wanted £120.
Parking sensors on a car that small but on the flip side, it's the nice little touches like that, shows that some probably cared about reversing into other cars.
These little bangers are absolute gems imo . I picked a 58 Toyota Aygo’Blue edition’ last week for 500 . Needed nothing really’ just a good scrub up and loosening up ‘ you know the score’ one elderly owner’low miles etc . The amount of calls I had ‘ I wish I had another 10 of them. These are cars that do everything needed on a daily basis and often overlooked. I can see very similar creeping up very soon 😉. Enjoyed your upload as always’ regards to you and yours 👍👌
I bought my 98 Corolla in 2021 for £750 from the original owner, full MOT and 48k miles on the clock, a real bargain for a car that'll last me a lifetime
I had one of these (manual) for a short time - it had a good driving position, and a really really sweet-spinning engine. The ride was good for such a small car too. I really liked it. Unfortunately the steel wheels had rusted pinholes somewhere, so the tyres were constantly going flat!
These are bulletproof cars I have had a 1998 , a 55 plate and currently 2013 as second cars , as long as you service them regularly they won't let you down .You have to watch the model you have bought for rust underneath. My current one 60+ mpg happy at 60 to 70 mph on the motorway. I highly recommend them so underated . Yes made in India .
The manual does like well over 60mpg if i remember back in the day when i worked for Suzuki....70.9mog?? Yeah,70.9MPG was written on the sides on our forecourt. I think the early ones came in this certain black were HORRIBLE. On a dull day it looked ok but when the sun came out it looked a nasty brown 😆 A different black was sorted out and that looked pretty cool.
In india it was called the Maruti Suzuki Alto just Maruti was added in front. Super reliable multiple examples have been running in mainly cold parts of the country like foothills of Himalayas where streets are narrow and Japanese mechanical simplicity is needed to start at sub 10 or sub zero temperatures
Welcome to the future of motoring. Out = PCP 'prestige' 😂German crap. In = tidy sub 5k small hatchbacks - especially Japanese. A mate has just drawn £4400 for a 59 plate Yaris. Nice car, driveway trader.
I drive a maruti Suzuki Alto (2006) with manual transmission, I never knew this car had an automatic varient. It was the no.1 best selling car in India, and the latest version of Alto is still the best selling car in India, you can see this car everywhere you go around India. I treat it like a bmw😄 so added 4 power windows with automatic closing feature, reverse parking sensor, key less entry & a Sony music system with subwoofer, now it's just like a modern car. The riding comfort is amazing in this car, the only thing I don't like about this car is the engine, the 796cc engine struggles to pull the car when it's fully loaded with AC on. I always turn off the ac while driving uphill, other than that, this car is Fantastic & fun to drive.
This video made me a bit sad. We owned an 800cc manual version of this car for nearly 17 years (since August 2006), and had it scrapped just 10 days ago due to extreme corrosion and other issues caused mostly by neglect. The car wasn't driven at all over the past 18 months. The chap dismantling the car told us that engine block still appeared in good shape for a car in this shape and having done over 150,000 miles in our Indian conditions. The car wasn't exactly comfortable or plush in the slightest, but it had power steering and ice cold AC, and it did the job especially given the lack of upkeep.
I’ve missed these styles of video. I’ve just always loved the walk around showing the flaws in the body and then the interior and the state of it. Just a very well rounded video
I learnt driving on this.Mine was alto cng with 60000 miles odometer with sluggish engine manual transmission that gave me confidence to learn driving in overpopulated India😂😂
Automatic ahhh, bruh when we bought this car in india back in 2011, shit didnt even have 2 side mirrors, no airbags no tacometers nothing just a very very very basic car🤣 , now I hear there was an automatic version of the car and its got a rear wipe wtf, hell naw man the amount of cost cutting in india is extremely high the 2008 alto youe referred to was called and released in india as A star
