Color is apparently a personal thing. To me the sage green is just gorgeous. I would agree that a guitar at that price range should have the nut cut well, but they never seem to. I’ve even paid for a setup and still found the nut to be off. Arg! Sounds and looks beautiful to me.
High E string slip is usually just the neck pocket. Loosen off the 4 neck bolts and pull up from the headstock and re-tighten. Just done mine and miles better
Sheesh man, your playing is next level spot on. 🔥 I need those chops something fierce. You make that tele sound great. Also refreshing to hear a demo that is a rock and roll/blues playing style.
10:29 I find the Tele player bridge to be much more comfortable to play over the traditional bridge, especially when it comes to palm muting. I actually got one of the first Player models when they came out in 2018 that came with bent-steel saddles rather than the blocks, and it sounds plenty twangy.
Based on my experience, I can only share what I've personally observed, and others might have different perspectives. A couple of months ago, I purchased a new Squier Classic Vibe '50s Stratocaster, made in Indonesia, from Sweetwater. This guitar is, for all intents and purposes, a perfect 10 and compares very favorably to my Fender MIM Standard Stratocaster. If you're looking to save on the premium cost of a Fender made in North America (Mexico), the Squier offers a highly viable alternative.
Yeah...I think the main difference in sound with the six-saddle bridge ,compared to the traditional Tele three-saddle bridge, is to move the sound of the guitar a little closer to a Strat tonality, and possibly more versatile and modern (like the other brands in the Cort/PRS range), but the three-saddle ashtray bridge with brass pieces actually has less asymmetrical vibration interfering with the transfer of fundamentals to the largely 90 degree edged body, contributing to upper mid spankiness!!
I think this is a great improvement for fender. If you're a player on a budget but you still want the fender headstock I think this is in the reach of most people. I love your channel and the clean family content. Your guitar playing is always top notch!! New subscriber
Can't deal with the E strings slipping off the board. I guess a properly cut nut could fix that. Hard to find a good tech though, especially when you're new to guitar. I would only buy online from Peach, you're far more likely to get a good guitar with a decent setup.
Graphtech makes great pre-cut nuts in many sizes. You just shave excess height and width as you fit it, and it's an easy material to work with. I put some sandpaper over the 1st fret and worked it until it was what I wanted (to get the radius correctly). Replaced the nut on my Fender MIM Strat. Now it feels and plays great, no string slipping or tuning issues anymore. Easy DIY job, at least for me it was. And it was also easy to lightly roll the fretboard edges with some sand-paper. These rosewood (or even laurel) fretboards are great for that.
I agree. This is something I spotted at my local music shop recently. It seems like Fender have designed a bridge with wide string spacing (maybe 56mm), whereas the guitar needs a narrower spacing.
@@1man1guitarletsgo Yes. It can be better if nut spaced properly but stil above 14th fret it will be wide. Best solution is change bridge to vintage and nut with bit narrow string cuts.
I just got my Player II Strat in yesterday and also noticed the high E string coming off the fingerboard while playing. As others have pointed out, it looks like Fender cut the nut slots wrong. There is more free space on the low E side of the board than the high E side. I may look into having my luthier cut a new bone cut to fix this. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with the guitar.
This seems to be a very common problem with Fender nuts these days. I’m sure we all agree misaligned slots, with much more space on the low E side, is not a feature but an obvious manufacturing flaw?
The first run of the player series I think around 2019/2020 were amazing guitars very close to US models and pretty flawless QC wise but they definitely seem to have drop standards lately especially when you check out some of the Sire models not to mention the top price Harley Bentons which are still half the price of these Fenders 🙄🤬Just get a Sire S3/T3 and put good pickups in it or get an S7/T7 which don't really need anything done but even if you did put high end pickups in it would still be cheaper than the player series😏👍🤘
The 70s and early 80s had country and rock guys swapping their ashtray bridged for the brass plate 6 saddle bridges. I believe even Andy Summers' guitar had a modern brass bridge.
John, I just received the exact same guitar, and have pretty much the same thoughts as yours. I’m not experiencing issues with the high string. However, mine seems to have almost a finish, protectant, or sealant on the rosewood fretboard. It’s subtle, and not distracting from a playing standpoint, but a bit odd nonetheless. Have you noticed this on yours?
I have had a "Squier classic vibe" for about ten years, and I was so happy with this guitar that I decided to buy a "real" one. Same model and color as you. And I am a little disappointed: the quality level is clearly lower at Fender, I can feel the frets, the nut is not finished, there is glue and other stuff on the nut and neck, and the edge of the neck is damaged on the first fret. I will keep it, fix all that, but it is sad.
It’s great to see rosewood again on Mexican Fenders but the big deal break for me is the horrible 6 saddle bridge. A Tele only needs 3 saddles I’m afraid. If you need 6 saddles but a Strat!😂🤣😅
I have a player Strat and two Indonesian made guitars. One is better made(YamahaRevstar Standard), and the other isn't(Ltd ec-256). It depends on how much you spend.
There is no reason or advantage for the fretboard to be so narrow that the E strings ca slide off the frets. I spent some time working in a Guitar Store, and played many guitars with more than ample space on the fretboard outside the high E strings, and it never impeded playing, and can be advantageous for wide bends.
I had a player telecaster before, and I couldn’t get used to the neck profile, I don’t know why but it was so uncomfortable to play for me even after professional setup and frets leveling, never had anything similar before, and the most ridiculous that player strat, the same line fits me perfectly no pain in my hands, fender telecaster Vintera super comfortable neck, but player telecaster it was painful after one year of playing I sold it. Pretty sure they didn’t change the neck profile in player II, but this rosewood fingerboard looks so good 😭
Like the color.... the weight, too much for me. I just bought a Tease SBH HD guitar from Tease Guitar for $250 , a lot of guitar for the money 🎸‼️👍 Also I am a Fender guy BUT fender has gotten too corporate...I want to get a G&L FULLERTON ASAT CLASSIC, it is a better built guitar than fender and it's on steroids ‼️
For £700, I expect the neck and nut to be perfect. There's zero excuses, IMHO. Far cheaper guitars that I've had don't have these kind of issues. Might as well save half the money and get a Squire if you're not getting a quality instrument for the money.
I think the MIM wood tends to be heavier even if not always thicker. The necks overall seem to be great. Some are better looking than others, but that's what I don't really care for painted guitars much that is just covering all the knots or whatever.
I just tried this guitar out last week. I planned to buy it because It looks amazing. However, It didnt play well. It felt very stiff and would not stay in tune. I ended up not buying it.
Typical half assed assembly for a bolt on construction guitar under $1k. The high E string is practically falling off the edge of the fretboard. Generally an easy fix, but most players who rarely change strings themselves, might return it. There's multiple brands out there in the $500-600 range. That I'd buy before paying that much just to have Fender on the headstock. Fender is rapidly falling to the wayside. They're generally asking $200-300 more for an equivalent model. Just to have possibly worse QC? No thanks.
I have way way way less expensive than a 700$ guitars ,and none of them had any issues with nut , most of those guitars have a very well made necks , decent fret job , not perfect but good enough .Even a 25 $ AlliExpress no-name strat copy had a near perfect neck on it , which is insane 😂
Well, the real issue I see with these "new" player line is that, you can get, in a lot of cases, a Classic Vibe that's gonna be better, so I'm with you, I don't really think that these are that clear as before, but, I think these are aimed to the people that want to see that "Fender" on the headstock.
Sorry but the classic vibe isn’t better than the player line, we’ve gone through hundreds of both at our shop. The CV line is overpriced and overproduced now, more than half go back with issues
I think the color looks better on the Strat body better. Birch Green, after we joked about Lima Bean/Pea green/Avocado. LOL. Always GREAT videos from JNC!!! Elodie is so Cute!!! Legato Boy does a pretty Fair Country, for more see Jason Laughlin, alex Farron for sure.
Why does Nicolas Cage spell Nicolas differently? Was there a Nicholas Cage already taken? And also what was wrong with Nicolas Coppola? That sounds academy award winning?
All the Player II instruments in my local guitar shops are pretty average quality, the RW fretboards are really cr.ppy wood, the frets have issues and they're all heavier than a boat, you get what you pay for I guess but I wouldn't order one of these sight unseen, in saying that they sound fine and the specs are great just find a good one
Player II series need bone nuts & vintage bridge with 3 compensated brass saddles . I don't like the ugly black plastic truss rod plug , Fender please for the player 3 series next time a piece of wood .
I’m sure Julian lage just played it he wasn’t looking for every little defect, just like Clapton , Hendrix , page , Van Halen mod his until it played as he wanted we’re spoiled, play more complain less would be my advice
Not keen on the sludge green , And for 700 quid you would have thought the nut could be cut a little better , The nut is the main thing that will throw the tuning out if it’s cut to high , I know it’s nit picking but for a novice this would be a b,,,,,k ache ,
Wait unit you adjust the intonation and realize that the high and low-e saddles sit atop domed screws which alter the saddle height and angle as you move them forward and back. Completely defective by design. Total junk from Encinada but there will be plenty at the trough to slop it up.
Not sure about the little one roaming around you while you’re trying to make a video about unboxing a guitar with a huge knife……you might want to rethink these episode. Could get you into trouble at the least.
Skunk stripe issues on non-American Fenders is not uncommon, unfortunately. I have a MIM Tele I got used years ago and you can feel the skunk stripe on it. Small thing but I drives me nuts. Also have that issue on an Affinity Strat, but I almost expect it at that level. Probably gonna sand it down and refinish it, but what a pain.
Dude. You’re trying to show us how this guitar sounds…. Then you lay a bunch of effects and backing tracks. Can we just hear the guitar without effects?… damn I just lost 3 minutes of my life I’ll never get back. 😂
