blessedbethecurse that’s because, as much as he cautions people not to yeet themselves to the moon, deep down inside he really really wants to reach the moon. Cruisers are for fun, not space travel lol

@@DesertMoPho Ha! I don't think he's only about that, though. He seems to love his Desert Sled, and that's not a yeet machine. I think it's more that he wasn't raised to revere Harleys, and so a heavy, overpriced, underpowered bike that might be pretty good on a highway in a straight line, but doesn't have a ton of other strengths to make up for its many weaknesses just doesn't add up for him. I'll be real, it doesn't add up for me either. Plenty of bikes are good on the highway, but also good in the twisties, or can be taken off road, or can be taken to a track day, and are not 500+ pounds and make more than 50 hp. If you don't give a damn about repping Harley, why not just pick one of those other bikes? It's a better value proposition. I'll even grant that you can place value on some ineffable "soulfulness" or "character" component that Spite likes to rave about, but I think it's harder to vibe with that unless the name Harley-Davidson means something to you going in. For Yammie, it doesn't.

blessedbethecurse the other bikes are too ugly for my taste and sound too crappy. Angry bugs has never been my vibe. Plus, I’ve injured my back a few times so the thought of being leaned over like that for more than 30 min is not appealing. Price wise, Harleys are pretty average and the engines have been solid from years of data. Aftermarket parts are everywhere at any price point and level of quality you could want. Most of us aren’t economists, so value propositions mean squat. My Harley is beautiful, comfortable, sounds amazing even stock, and goes as fast as I need it to.

@@DesertMoPho Like Yammie, I also have my econ degree, so it means something to me 😄 Anyway, I ride an XSR900, so that's comfortable on the highway, it's not at all leaned over, so I can ride all day, it's definitely got all the low-end grunt and top speed I could ever ask for, and it's great for carving up twisty roads or doing a long highway cruise. I haven't put a pipe on it yet, but I'm not into super loud exhausts, and while I do like the V-twin engine note, most Harley exhausts are so loud as to be excruciating as they pass by, I've found. I would say my bike thankfully doesn't sound like angry bees, because I'm not into that sound either. But that's the great thing about bikes, everyone can find their own favorite flavor, and opinions are inherently un-falsifiable.

Don't cosplay too much, you put the wrong patch on that vest and you might not make it home. Bought mine in 03 I think for 5500 and dumped 4500 more on it and then got 100 year ann wide glide LOL If you can scrape pegs on a Goldwing you can scrape pegs on a sporty :) And don't go cheap with the 1200 kit don't get the sporty 1200 kit, I threw on the buel kit on mine and the ss crab and umm nvm it would be a long post hahah.

What gets me is that it looks awesome, because it looks like a Harley. It’s the difference between buying a Mac or a pc. If you want it to start every time but be limited in how much you can customize the machine to your liking, buy a Mac. If you enjoy being able to extensively customize your machine, and know that it will take regular maintenance, but you enjoy doing that work, buy a pc. Honda=Mac, Harley=pc. Your choice. Personally, I own both and a few others.

@@TheNECichlids All due respect, I don't really think you know shadows well enough... I have an '09 Shadow Aero and there isn't a single part on that bike that isn't fully customizable to your liking. I can make any build I want to: strip it down and make a bobber, get a tour pack and windshield for a touring bike, get apes and a supercharger kit and make a ratbike... anything. Pipes, intake, lights, bars, ECU, bags, shields, fenders, seats, floorboards, you name it. All from lots of companies. Harley is really just a name that people like to be associated with (which is fine!). Great bikes don't get me wrong but there's always something cheaper that serves the same role (with the exception of special bikes like the dyna series or electraglide)

While the shadow is customizable, Honda doesn’t have the offerings or the aftermarket support that Harley does. Not to mention the decades of other models with parts that readily crossover. It all depends on what you’re into. Personally I’ve ridden some antique Harley’s that would make even Yammie Noob shudder lol -foot clutch, hand shift, drum brakes lol hope he checks out something with an open primary if he really thought the pipe burning his boot was a crazy design flaw lol

i basically rode with full gear, fullface helmet, mesh jacket, gloves, boots on my sportster and now my 2020 softail standard. I haven't bought any pants because i don't order anything online and have it not fit. Im in a weird in between size so even buying normal jeans is annoying sometimes.

kingbilly cokebottle yeah & the British stuff is head and shoulders above the harleys in my opinion, ridden heaps of harleys over the years & when I wanted to add a cruiser to the stable it was a triumph thunderbird storm for me,wanted a bike that could move when the throttle was turned, had brakes & could turn a corner with decent ability. So now 100,000 kms pretty much trouble free I don’t regret it one bit.

I bought a brand new Iron 883 in 2011, nine years later I still haven't finished customising it. There are literally tens of thousands of aftermarket parts out there to put your mark on your Sportster and make it one of a kind. Good choice boys.

Ima get a 150cc to re-learn riding after that, I’ma get a grom as my first motorcycle. But after I learn on a grom ima probably get an Iron 883🤘

Harley's are different, I love mine, I also love my KTM. I ride my Harley similar to my KTM. I had to put 2 layers of heat tape under heat shield and I have some tape on inside of some of my boots. Sportsters are a blast for short rides, but lack speed and vibrate too much to cruise at 80 for a hundred miles.

Nailed! Just a heads up the 883 w/ the 1200 kit is faster off the line than a stock 1200 due to the gear ratios. Oddly, the current XL shares a lot with the model K (unitized engine, styling) that started in 1954.

I bought a used 2015 Iron 883... completely stock!! It is my first bike. It’s awesome! I added an LED headlight and a engine guard. I’ll be buying a larger HD next, perhaps a 2015 Dyna Low Rider or perhaps a newer Softail Low Rider S.

S&s has exhausts and a big bore kit for the interceptor. Incase if you get the re twins, it'd be great to see that since there's no video of that big bore kit.

Yo, Pappy Yammie, you & your channel have matured as of late. . . & I'm likin' it (me bein' one of those mature-type, "Old Guys" I guess)! Next, the addition of "Mr. Spike" was an inspired move. He is THE mad lad to compliment your channel's well-rounded, evolving attitude. You two are truly a well matched, "quality motorcycle content" duo! An H-D, huh? OK, I'm game AND I wanna see exactly what you do to it (knowin' you guys, it'll be sweet 😙 ). Incidentally, I have to agree that the 883 Roadster is a perfect beginner, "jumping off point" scoot, of the cruiser variety (another idiosyncrasy of the "Old Guy" in me?). Yea. . . the bone stock, "average", clean slate-type bikes have always been my preference (like c'mon, my 1st & fav scoot is my stock '05 Suzuki GSF1200s Bandit). I guess, the one question I DO have is, is Spike a 6'+ tall dude like me? If so, I wouldn't have ANY problem taking home the 883, I would be totally stoked to have it as #2 in my stable. While I may not, presently, identify as a "cruiser user", I AM willing to expand my horizons, mainly because of your guy's endorsement. With my health on the mend & dealing better with all this virus lockdown business, I'm eager to salvage the rest of the truncated riding season that the Midwest relegates me to. In 1970 a new Sportster 900 was my dream bike (big step up from my 500 Triumph T100). This one doesn't look a lot different, ... other than the color. Never owned a Harley and probably never will, but it is a pretty bike.

I currently own a iron883. It was my first bike, been riding for a little over 3 years. As you guys have alluded to the character of the bike [engine] and the tinkerability of the platform is what initially drew me to it. So far its been a blast. I personally wasn't looking for a powerful machine, just enough to have fun. Anywho can't wait to see what direction you take it!

Then there’s the dyna super glide(not in production anymore) which is basically a blank slate with a big v twin 1600. They are a blast.

Get easy start cams for it. Get more seat of the pants performance with a cam then punching the cylinders.

So glad you did this! I'm a brand new rider (also happen to be a woman), and I bought a 2009 Harley Sportster 883 Low for my first bike (despite your videos warning to the contrary) about a month ago. It felt like an unwieldy beast at first, but now I've put almost 2,000 miles on it, and it's wonderful! I do want to swap out the stock pipes for something throatier, and the seat padding leaves something to be desired for longer trips, but this isn't a bike for long trips anyway, so it's fine.

Current bike is a 765rs. Owned a sportster 48. Honestly it was freaking a blast. I loved hitting corners and grinding the hell out of the pegs. The stupid braap with pipes. It's just something else. Want another one so bad. Plus you can make them produce crazy power. S&S kit ohlins and a lift. You can make it a weirdo lol.

The Iron 883 is an awesome bike. Only reason I went with my Bolt over the Harley was the Bolt coming with a bigger motor in the same size platform for less money. But the Harley has so much potential, I may still end up buying one

A Harley Sportster is probably the best bike to get for free, due to the custom options that you can get for it. There is no other Harley or even bike that has the logistics to be turned into literally whatever you want.

Having owned a couple of HDs, as in the Past, I can confirm that they are the absolute best motorcycles for .... low speed 'parading'. Yes, it's true...they are GREAT slow speed parade bikes.

You know, I rode my Sportster for several years and I had some 45 years of experience when I bought the bike. I lowered it, full Python exhaust, 3.2 gal. Custom ordered from HD, pull back risers with track bars on a billet clamp, lots of chrome touches like banjo covers, SS cables and more. Why did I sell it? Bilateral carpal tunnel and tendonitis of my wrists. Riding days were over. THIS IS NOT A BEGINNERS BIKE ONLY. Do girls buy them? Sure. Do guys love owning them long term, yes, that too.
