I've FINALLY secured my first air-cooled Porsche - and am partnering with @ebaymotors on the build! Let's see how rad this thing looks and drives before we start tearing into it! #ebaypartner LZMFG.com
Yup - my 964 C4 would be so different. The front drive and a full tank makes it a totally different car to a C2 rear only. I am saying TOTALLY different car.
If you install the manual gearbox, you should mount the clutch and flywheel of a 964RS: it’s a single mass flywheel and gives you a lot more responsiveness! Nice project!
So a regular 3.6 would have a dual mass flywheel??? I don't know jack about older Porsche's, but that sounds pretty weird for a sports car of that period.
@@thegreatwhite-hd3uowell yeah it would be stupid to start with anything laugh when it would take so much money n work to get it to that point just to begin... Probably cheaper in the long run doing it the way he did unless your time isn't as valuable
Makes me happy but also bums me out. Been interested in a 930 or 964 since I was in middle school. Thought it was going to happen in 2021 then Covid happened and they went from 30-80k to 100+. Sucks for us normal people.
Front bumper frowny face super easy to fix, it’s just a bunch of tabs from the inner grille that you have to bend and pop back into place 👍 So excited for this build, I work with these little froggies every day and they’re beautiful machines.
Great story. Super rare color for the model. Swapping out the trans for a 5 speed is the thing to do. Just make sure that you find one with a limited slip. They are found both open and LSD. Easy to check in a car or out. Turn one of the output shafts and the other should turn the same direction with pressure resistance from your other hand. Thats an LSD. The rest of the conversion is simple too. Contact one of the salvage companies and they usually have a complete kit for sale. Need to change out the speedometer too. That way you get away from the automatic gear indication on the face plate. If my memory is right, no need to worry about any wiring harness issues as Porsche tried to cover the car configured in any circumstance with one harness. The G50 transmission is a highly sought after unit for older car conversions so be ready to pay a few bucks. Make sure to put in a flywheel that doesn't have a rubber center. They tend to stall easily without the original dual mass flywheel. The automatic and its parts might have some slight value to the right person, but they are not popular as you can imagine. I had a 91 964 and had a bunch of fun with it. Wish I still had it too.
964 owner here, welcome to the club! Just had my rwb conversion finished July '23 after waiting 4.5 years. These cars are amazing! They are cars to keep for life! Air-cooled 911 ownership is a very special privilege!
Welcome to the aircooled world! Glad you caught the oil thing, it should be checked when its warm and up to temp and it should be right right in the middle of empty and full on the stick. Not sure about the 964 oil gauge but on the older 911s (like I have) the gauge is notorious for being wrong/faulty/dead so the best reading is typically done on the stick when at running temp. Have fun with it!
@@Berm_Blaster a tartan plaid design like the MK7 GTI But with mint green, grey and black stripes, white/off white background color with some other subtle tons would look perfect. Just the seat inserts, not the entire seat. Maybe even the door card inserts too but that might be a little too much
I first read this wrong cuz I was thinking the door cards would look sick. But why mess with an interior in such good condition. If he could find spare seats that need love that could be ideal. I still think it'd look better and more understated with just a small bit on the doors but great idea.
@@turbot_ I wish I could share pics on here to show what design I’m referring to, it would be just enough to break up the entire black interior but not take away the true design or make it look gawdy… a few years ago, I saw an old volkswagen redone with plaid inserts and it was so subtle but made the biggest improvement! If done right it makes it just the perfect combo! And for sure, if he found another interior set to redo to keep the original ones in original condition, of course that would be ideal/up to him, might not be easy to find though… but of course, just my opinion
Welcome to the air cooled Porsche world. They are great little cars and as a pro driver you will learn to appreciate what they really are and how far ahead they were. Looking forward to watching this build. I’ve built 2 outlaw cars a 67 911 R/RS and a Magnus Walker inspired 78 SC/R. Be prepared for the “purist” they can be brutal, for the most part, people love them.
I’ve painted a bunch of these. They love to rust around the windshield and rear window. As well as pretty much all the little nooks and cracks. That car looks really clean! Make sure you cavity wax it up after the clean up job.
Excited to see Adam and the gang teaming up with some big time sponsors like E-Bay motors. I see them support other channels then you get like two maybe three episodes of a build at least Adam and Mike pump out the content on the regular.
Love seeing a young dude being so excited about the door handle sound (we all love it as well), just find it hilarious that engineers have been making all these digital handles with motors, when new generations actually are loving analog feel and sounds! Great stuff!
I have a 997.1turbo. I love it because it’s six speed manual and all wheel drive. I think it has like 480 hp which isn’t much by today’s standards but is quick and fun. It is awesome and has that old school feel to it.
my neighbor who taught me how to drive stick on his air-cooled 1978 911 SC convertible recently passed away. it was an awesome experience learning on that car, and i wish to own one some day. cant wait to see more future vids!
I had a feeling that you were going to be the next one out of all your friends to get an old school Porsche since Jimmy bought his and now he's got 2. You'll have to get Jimmy and Spoon to come down for a week or so and help show you a few things about air cooled engines. You should do what Jimmy did and take out the engine and give it a Birthday as Jimmy and the Australians say. New gaskets and a little vapor honing and new paint and ol Thin Mint will look like a brand new car. Safari Porsche maybe
Having a tiptronic is not the worst thing in the world!! Enjoy the car! Two of my close friends are enjoying their tiptronics here in NYC! One is manual swapping, but the color and original paint forgives everything! Will polish out beautifully! Single stage is the best!!
Absolutely a fine example of an old porsche With Adams touch, wheels, engine upgrades and full paint correction and buff That will be stunning Adam Love it when u do bought a car video ace Ur car collection in 2025 is adding 15 more cars lol
I bought my GRANITE GREEN METALLIC 964 1 month ago with the same philosophy as your « vibe car » philosophy. I’m learning about it everyday and it’s a dream. Thanks for documenting your journey with it, I’m sure I’ll learn a lot about my car with your videos !!
The head studs on 964s are known to snap off, it would be a good idea to take the valve covers off and double check their condition, just lookin out love the car!👍
The small rear spoiler opens electronically controlled at a certain speed, but if they are not well maintained, the small aluminum gears break and the mechanism fails! You still should get parts from Porsche Classic ... or you find a used one in good shape .
Adam, I really love the content that you, and Colette put out there! I'd love to see you, spend some money on that cherry Porsche, by dry icing the suspension and undercarriage, of it!
There are also dry ice cold air boxes that pass air over it to help cool the temperature of the air passing over it then the engine if the air being pulled gets cooled by 5 degrees even that pretty good gains on the temperature taken from the fins as the air passes over them
Nicely done! Didn’t know that was a factory color and the interior looked pretty damn clean. I wonder if big Adam has a way to take care of the cig scent.
Main channel... New channel... I'm watching! Also have water main panel box and secondary ones if piping is too far. Make it easy to service just like your racecars!
I can't even begin to explain how excited I am for you Adam, my dream has always been a 930 turbo like my dad used to have when I was little, I don't think I'll ever be able to afford one seeing as they are 100k+ but nonetheless I'm really happy for you Adam, she's a beauty! Enjoy her for me Adam!
congrats , maybe you can do your own version of a singer dls restomod, I mean the donor car for a singer dls is a 964 , but its also 2.5 million $ usd build through singer , but you so get henrey metzger and williams f1 racing divison working on your porsche, but still I would love to see what comes from your brain
It would be sacrilege to widebody this car. Best would be to make it like an RS, but with some personal touches when it comes to wheels , engine and maybe seats.
Porsche sells head units that are for old Porsches, but have the modern stuff and look like the stock one. They even come with CarPlay and Bluetooth, perfect for oem plus look, especially since it’s sold my Porsche
The Third Garage in New Milfird CT if I'm correct Adam , They specializes in these Porsche and other older cars. I remember working doing tree work in the area and just stopping in and admiring all the nice vehicles they had there. Home far away from home 😊
that door open and close feeling is same om all of the older porches Had the Luck to work and Canepa in Scotts Valley CA. Moved around lots of 959's and 911's. all feel perfect!
The two best guys in Central Florida are Lou- Aero Dynamics and Jason Bretiwerks. Beautiful color. I have a 77turbo and a 77s that I’m backdating and going RSR wide. Congratulations!!
No sure what you know about Magnus Walkers 964..But he has tons of videos online talking about it..He also would have a great person to ask questions..He literally EATS, BREATHES, SPEAKS PORSCHE..Good Luck on the build..🏁👍🏽
Sooooo stoke about this new build! 911 , special the air cool one have been my dream car since I was 8 years old! Really looking forward to follow this one!
Funny I was about to comment that you need to start the engine to check the oil lol... It is a dry sump system. Cracking the case is no biggie either, the hardest part of reassembly is timing the cams which is not too hard as well...
Well congratulations you now own my lottery win garage. 32,33,34 gt3 touring and now the 964. Really looking forward to content on the 964, great colour choice. Keep up the great content 👍🏻
15:58 Stained engine block may not be oil. It may be Cosmoline used to protect against corrosion at the factory. My 911 is highly original and is well protected!!
7:58 "I couldn't even tell you the horsepower numbers. It's over 200, right? I'm gonna have to google it. That's pretty pathetic, but again I learn by having things!" That must be the coldest save ever. What a turnaround. He chose violence.
