My father bought this marvellous watch on a whim in an airport in 1988. He says he’s worn it nearly everyday since and has never desired buying a different one. He will pass it down to when I become the age he was when he bought it.

I was stalking a Santos when I came across your post here. Like having the ability to adjust the bracelet without tools. I’m sure a Santos De Cartier will be joining my collection soon. Probably the exact model shown here. Imagine a “classier” experience consisting of being treated like a valued customer instead of a peasant 😅. Great observation.

Welcome to Cartier, Santos is a great everyday watch from the brand and the white dial has such excellent legibility compared to the other colour dial offerings. Everyone talks about the bezel scratching and how it's a downside. I've learned to enjoy my bezel scratches which actually has a kind of "raining effect" when I move it left to right slowly. One thing they never tell you about is the plastic protector. The sides of the plastic protector can fray over time and stick out at just the perfect angle to scratch the sides of your Santos with complete ease. Even worse is the fact that these scratches will stand out as it goes against the brushing on the sides. Better to store the Santos in the travel pouch over the watch box if you are going to frequently wear it. Leave the plastic protector in your watch box and don't use it unless you are taking it back to service. If you register your watch on the Richemont Enquirus lost and stolen watch/jewllery database, the integrated bracelet has it's own serial numbers separate to the watch.

The better choice vs. the JLC, IMO. Congratulations! I recently purchased a Cartier Love Ring for my wife, in Paris, at the original Cartier store. The sales associate was wearing your watch on brown leather strap, a perfect match with his navy blue suit. Our experience with Cartier was fabulous and special for the both of us. We were treated like royalty. Honestly much more enjoyable than my two Rolex purchases at authorized dealers. Enjoy your new Santos, Ash!

I just bought a Cartier Santos Medium today, and I'm so happy to add this to my collection. Your video gave me the extra motivation to make this purchase. I really appreciate your insights on this watch, especially as I was getting a bit tired of chunky Rolex. Your reviews have truly refined my taste. Thank you! I purchased it at a nearby AD instead of BT and also received excellent service. It was a much better experience than buying a Rolex from a second-hand store.

Gorgeous watch, congratulations. Likewise, I purchased a Santos 100 medium back in 2007 for precisely the same reasons you mention. It’s a timeless classic, very comfortable on the wrist, and extremely versatile. I recently dropped the watch off at Cartier for servicing and also had an excellent customer experience which was very refreshing.

Welcome to the club, Ash! 👍 I went for the WSSA0037, because I’ve seen worn watches with this mirror polished bezel. And I didn’t like what I’ve seen regarding the scratches. Did you have a look on the Santos Dumont as well? It’s not as robust but way more elegant. Best regards, Claus

I've been eyeing the Santos Medium for a few years now and if it had a date at 6 o'clock (like the larger model does), I might have already purchased it. However, until the day a "Medium Date" makes its way to the catalogue, I'll keep checking the ever increasing prices of vintage Santos Galbees and Carees, sighing and pondering. Brilliant video. I was lucky to recieve the exact same watch as a present last Christmas. Agree with everything Ash said about this beautiful piece. I was a bit worried about scratching the bezel after reading people's reviews about it being a scratch magnet but I haven't had any problems so long as it is given a bit of respect and realise it is not a chunky tool watch. 8 years guarantee is unbelievable.😊

Great video. I have an older Santos, the 29mm Carree. It fits my 6.5 inch wrist perfectly. I also bought a Cartier tank must in the Large which is really the medium. I bought this on the Bracelet and it has quick release as well. I look forward to seeing your other videos 😊

That is absolutely gorgeous! That was a wise choice sir. The leather strap makes it look completely different. I have noticed the same visuals regarding the scratches on and dullness on worn Cartier Santos watches. I suppose they are deeper and more pronounced than that of a used Rolex as one doesn’t notice the scratches as much in comparison. I assume this is due to a softer metallurgy of the Cartier Santos. They do look splendid when new or when the scratches and dullness of a worn Cartier Santos piece is polished back to splendor.

Dear Ash, Thank you for this enjoyable video. Personally the Speedy is my grail. But the Cartier really fits you well, a perfect match. Your Rolex experience matches mine, they make us beg for bad treatment and this is exactly the opposite of what Omega do. The Cartier experience as I like to call it is similar to my purchase of the Moonwatch which, to this day, is a really nice memory, like your Cartier purchase. As much as it saddens me that we will no longer see the Explorer on the channel again, its my favourite watch of all time and it is the watch i'm currently saving up for right now (about 3/4th there), but Cartier is very close to my heart too as i'm the owner (for about 10 years now) of a Cartier - Must de cartier 23mm that used to belong to my Nan, it was slow to gel with I think I wore it 3 times in 4 years but I eventually got a Dark Green Alligator Strap for it, it pretty much became my every day wear for about 5 years and even now at least once a week. I loved how it looked and how it mad me feel. A great watch brand, welcome to the club ;)

I was in the same position oy you, I was dreaming for a explorer 36mm then I bought a Cartier santos medium. I still want a explorer,don’t do the same mistake I did, buy explorer first, then if you still want you can always buy the cartier, my humble opinion. Best regards

Beautiful choice! Honestly I never considered adding a Cartier to my collection because all I knew of them was the tank watch, which I always found to be too dainty. You put me on to the Santos model and now it’s on my wish list for the dress category. I’ll be getting the large version though because with my work a date function is a non-negotiable. Just imagine....enter a Cartier Boutique and have an enjoyable experience! I bought a medium Cartier de Santos (two tone) at Berry's of Leeds who were equally charming. I find the inner edges of the bracelet a shade sharp for my skin (I have the issue with many wristwatch bracelets - so it is probably more about me than the watch.) Mine came with a navy alligator deployant strap which looks very sophisticated and the Santos fits my wrist like an old glove. I love it!

What you said about accuracy (metas, chronometer etc) was spot on. I don't really understand the obsession with accuracy. My G shock loses about a second a month, but any mechanical watches I've had were much more inaccurate. Did that make any difference to the enjoyment? Of course not.... just correct the time once a week. It only takes a minute. And off you go
