I blind bought a 1993 Volvo 245 If you want to support the channel (and get some perks, ie early access to videos, behind the scenes pictures etc, here's a link; / involvod Merch' can be found here; www.etsy.com/s...
I had three 240 Wagons, the first in 2016 I drove for a year, then the brakes started failing and TÜV was not far away outstanding, the front car condition war excellent but rear full of rust holes in the usual places. I had to sell it due to lack of time and missing welding skills. Then in 2020 I bought another 240 Wagon again as project car with few things to do. And in 2021 I bought another 240 Wagon with the mighty DIESEL engine with the same plan to bring it back to the road. But I was wrong and had still no time for doing it. So I sold both last year again. I am a bit sad, as you said, the 240 Wagons does have the iconic look and feeling of the car everyone associates with a typical Volvo. I loved to drive it. But nevertheless, I am good with my 740 and 940 which always need some kind of care and I don't really need more cars (except my wife would be not so lucky as yours when I start buy cars again we don't actually need 😉)
Ah yeah it can go like that. I hope a good deal comes your way that your wife also likes 😄 But yes, at least with the 7 and 9 you don't have such a rust battle and better electrics etc
Yes!!! A proper 240!!! 🎉 A f……g beauty! ❤ Shurely hope you get her on the road again! Miss kunnen we involvo’d has a good taste! See you in a couple of days driving around! 😜
I LOVE IT!!! We share the addiction. I have four 240 wagons (one a turbo 4 speed), a 240 sedan, a 940 turbo wagon, and a PAIR of '62 544s! I've had so many 240 wagons, I don't think I've never not owned one. I LOVE them. The one you just bought is PERFECT for this channel. I love that the Ms. is so supportive and I'm so happy to finally see the baby. Two things I don't yet know: A) boy or girl (baby that is); B) what year is the new 245? Couldn't be happier for you and I REALLY look forward to all the upcoming episodes! Thanks buddy.
@@Involvod Congratulations on your baby girl, and your new baby '93. Don't you DARE sell the '93! Absolute best year, and a WAGON! Doesn't get better than that and I can see how the previous owner LOVED that car. I would too! They are almost impossible to find here in the US anymore! Insane how much they've appreciated! I have a white '93 that I'm working on right now to get ready for use as my daily. It's MINT, but has not been fired up in a minute. I just put in the lift fuel pump and I think I'll do the main as well. I have a low compression situation I'm hoping due to sitting for so long. Just poured some Marvel Mystery oil down the old spark plug holes and I'm praying. Your church bells to get me more in a more serious and somber mood for that activity. Take care buddy and hello to the whole family. What a score on that home and garages! Wow!
hey man, what a beauty! I have almost the exact same car, blue, silver grille, the large tailgate window, also on steelies right now.. yours is also a 93 right? mine had a rusty front crossmember and the rust had gone through and eaten some of the frame the crossmember is attatched to, pretty horrifying stuff, but luckily my neighbor is good with a welder, so he helped me out. hope you´re going to fix it up, and looking forward to see the journey
Oh man! I also have a bit of rust around where it bolts up on the 244, so I've covered it in Fluid Film for now hopefully it doesn't get any worse, these cars can definitely catch you out. It's a '93, the best year so they say!
To me the 240 wagon is the iconic Volvo. Love the new addition! She’s very cool indeed and 600 Euros is not bad…. We’ll just pretend we didn’t look under the powerbarn… 😂 love the story behind it too and I’m sure it’s going to be a great project over time!
Love it. Wish I could find a nice lady who loves old volvo's and your daughter looks very contented in her mothers arms. The Volvo would be great to fit a B230 turbo engine in from a 940. Be an interesting project. Look forward to how it goes.
Seems to be all in good order, although there appears to be a slight lack of head on that block 🤣. No excuse not to do the gasket and timing belt I suppose…
@@Involvod there must be a good shade tree welder out there in the country side, might be worth it at least for the structural parts. Although, learning to weld is a great project, truly a great chop to have. Wish i did, oh the life with these old ass canoes would be more joyful.
@@Buffalobulltofta It would be great to find someone like that, but labour rates are high, I found a backstreet guy that charged €150 to fit a middle silencer and he did a shitty job. Front wheel alignment here is €90, swapping 4 tyres and balancing €60-€80. Welding would quickly run into several hundreds in no time 😬
@@Involvod yeah man, it's the same here in Sweden, welding is pretty much the most expensive job to get done. I just got quoted 1200 euros per inner wheel well to take care of some upcoming rust, and that was the cheap guy. So yeah, learning to do it surely is a knowledge for life. Takes a lot of time and effort to get good at, but is probably worth it in the long run.
Yeahhhhhh ! Let s go back to the roots. You can buy a 740 you can buy a mercedes or anything else, but at the end you always come back to a 240. that is the way it is. There are better cars than a 240 but the 240 gives so much joy and pleasure. The best volvo ever, whatever. An Icon. nothing above appart God (if there is one for cars😅)
Looks a good un so far, let's hope you've landed lucky this time . Also congratulations on your new family member, mum and Babs looking great, you rough as always, but wouldn't have you any other way. Brilliant content as always. Cheers Steve 😊
Really clever idea getting "her indoors" on side.. Obviously needs work but there is a load of parts to fit. How about Christine for the name of the car.. 👍
600€ eh? Seems like a steal! Looks like there are lots of new parts. Since you've already dealt with an engine swap before AND have lots of room now it should be a snap. I miss my wagons. So awesome. How badly failed is the 2.3 in it, enough to start to move around the yard while you fix it up?
Best of luck with the car! I never mastered the art of welding personally. From what I have heard, these cars tend to be better to weld than some other brands. Perhaps a good place to start learning! I've always found it interesting that the estates have the saloon slope on the rear doors.
All Volvos after the 240 are just poor copies. Looks like a worthy project. Seems like a great opportunity for a turbo :) If you do buy a welder, don’t cheap out and buy a flux core only one. It will just lead to frustration and wasted $$$. Ask me how I know. Flux core has its place, but shielding gas makes delicate stuff for beginners much easier in my opinion. You can also always run flux core in a mig after the fact if you want to.
Flux core mig/mma welding machine is not expensive and a good starting point. I have sherman 180FL it can do mig with gas but i just use flux core wire and mma, price is around 200€. Never tried welding car parts yet though :D Also i just been researching how to chrome plastics and one video had best results with using UV nail polish gel with chrome particles, maybe this will help in your future project. Cheers.
Nice. Would it be possible to convert it to auto for Miss Involvo'd? Although it might not have the safety features of the Merc it's a tank! Now you have power close to the repair space it would be good to get a mig welder - cored wire helps as long as you can keep the wind away. Teach yourself via youtube but practice on old body work as welding new steel is easy in comparison! Tip: Wear welding gloves as you can get very very bad 'sunburn' on your hands otherwise - I remember it well 🙂
Thanks for the tips! I hope she doesn't see this comment as she'll be getting me to do it! But I quite like having a manual wagon for a change, she's always got the auto 740 😅
You mentioned at some point you are thinking about getting P2 chasis volvo, Do you still consider it? I recomend pre/facelift 2001/2004 V70 D5 I have one of those, wonderful car
Coom purchase. For sure buy some cheap mig welder with flux core wire to learn the weld. How hard can it be. 🙈 this is how I did to learn myself into welding. Far from good welds, but good enough to weld rust patches under the car where noone sees them. 😂🙈 looking forward to see the build. You can name the cars after Nordic gods like Volvo rims. 😂 Hmmm looks like Freyja. :) Goddess of love. :) I am referring to heart on the bonnet. :)
ahhhh really man you are metal =) damn..... But another project car??? I have 3 and I do not have weekends anymore... =) I hope this works out really well for you =)
Hey I could use some help, I'm trying to buy a 240 wagon in the next week or two. What should I look for so I don't waste time/money? How should I go about inspecting one before handing over cash? What are the major issues that would make or break the deal? Should I steer clear of the budget price wagons if it will be a project car either way? As well as how many miles/kilometers on the car is too much?
Man if you’re nota fabricator then get someone who is. You can’t learn to weld on the job and put your family at risk. Welding cars is horrendous even if you can weld.
