On the sight I bid on I tried reporting the facility that was reselling the only unit I tapped out of not being able to clean out loosing my 200 deposit and depressed I wasn't going to be able to buy more but the same manequinn with unique paint job that I left behind was reposted in a different unit also posted as a lien unit . Since I got no response and shocked I wasn't kicked out I decided to purchase the unit at 30 so no one else will loose there 200 cleaning deposit. I estimated 2 10x20 truck loads of garbage sofas and furniture ,room was posted as a 10x20 but was 15x30 with around 25' ceiling with all garbage furniture neatly stacked high on one side covered by more garbage furniture that was wrapped with brown paper to cover the back and make you think they where boxes , 2215 s Ford, Chicago IL.😡😅😅 Still today after a year they still post rooms and have seen some go for over 300 . Now you have $70 inside information that that facility goes through the stuff and never ever buy from that facility again. I've stuck to two facilities and it's been great!!! It sucks that the only thing these online auction sites enforce is there payment, if the card don't go through they call instant 5 mins after the auction ends. Self storage auction.com is the site I buy from .
If you kept photos from original I would definitely check with the office. I know watching other channels there's a whole lot of deception going on with storage units.
So many other storage buyers been ripped off,I watch Tucker Upper,Jebus,Locker Nuts, and Storage Stalkers, and Pirate..they have all been scammed in one way or another! Jebus lost about 3k…it’s a new scam they rent a locker for a dollar a month (specials) fill it with expensive looking boxes which turned out to be empty! They do fill with cheap junk to make it look full, then when the buyers see these boxes they bid high thinking they are full..but nope..then the storage owners take the money owed to them and send the rest to the renter!!! It’s so unfair to the buyer! It’s such bull!
Even if the storage facility lost money on the storage units, it's still fraud & theft to sell the unit contents to an innocent bystander, like Renee or Taco Stacks, & then take stuff from the unit. This is just plain wrong. 😐
Sewing machine $25 Food saver sealer $15 Coffee machine $20 Snowmen $15 Black bag $25 I think you can break even and then make a lil profit with the jewelry and other misc.
Definitely report them so they can’t sell on line. I hope you have photos to document what you bid on. And if you are certain you were ripped off, why not name the storage unit? You are much nicer and more calm that I would be about the missing box.
Dear Reneé, Keep the Singer unless you have a better machine. Let it stand up right to allow the oil to redistribute before operating it; it might need to be oiled anyway (easy to do). Sewing machines can be used for junk journals. In fact, they can really dress up one's work. Besides, you want to take up sewing. If I lived close to you I'd teach you, no charge! I suppose we could do it online if you wanted. You can obtain the operating manual online. Have a blessed day 💖💖💖✝🧵🧵🧵🎄🎄🎄
Always have a picture of the locker when you bought it, (especially if you do so on-line) with you when you go to the storage unit. If when you open the unit and it's different than the picture, close it up and go to the manage right away! The owners of the storage units are NOT allowed to go through the units after the unit is sold. The unit's contents belong to you!
Accept if it is an apple product!! I'd like to sue Apple for violation of state law for keeping me from accessing my property after buying a unit with a locked apple product!!
❤Oh Renee, I am sorry you lost out on that box. I love that you tried and that you took me/us along with you. ❤👏 Thank you for bidding on a mystery unit.....I love a mystery. Wish people would just be kind.😍 Like you❣❣❣
I buy units, and yes sadly this happens. Not often, but it does. The only person with a key after those photos are taken are the people running the facility as they put their own lock on it; the owner of the contents no longer can access it. This mean any tampering was done by employees which the facility should deal with promptly. I ALWAYS video opening the unit for the first time as proof for this exact reason! Don't let it discourage you though!!
I thought that too but I asked some friends I know that have facilities and they say they can't because the tenant can come back and they are franchises so they would lose a lot if they got caught. It's just a huge risk. There are cameras. These larger facilities wouldn't risk it. This is done by stagers, scum that stage units, default and collect money from facilities that offer 1st month free.
I would file a complaint against owners about the discrepancy in contents. You have proof in photos. $70 is a bit much. But, I think if you try real hard with selling you should get it back. The sewing machine, coffee machine, sealer, lots of Christmas stuff and the jewelry's. If you display the jewelry on a jewelry tree it will show better. It going to be a lot of smalls to nickel and dime over but doable.
You might want to consider doing this and report to the office. There has been others on RU-vid, mostly from Ohio that have been robbed. They compared the auction pictures to the unit they bought. Stuff was missing and complained to the office
If it makes you feel any better, I had $70 worth of enjoyment out of this vid. Thanks My wife and I do cleanouts, its amazing what comes up missing between the time we take the job and start it. Its hard to be be positive when honesty seems to be a thing of the past. Thank you for all you do!
Having known some storage owners ,YES, they go through the units to limit their loss on rental and let people like yourself to absorb their losses .Sorry you've been had .
I am sorry to say, I often wonder if that happens. I knew someone who owned a storage unit business. She told me that her husband goes through the units and keeps some items. I can't blame them since they lost some money, and they did not auction the storage units. I'd love those totes!
other storage buyers have had a lot of changes in the pictures and movements of items in lockers lately. somebody has been getting greedy at the storage offices it seems. report it to the office and to the online auction business.
I"d be concerned about scammers and thieves. If there's a box missing and things shifted around someone's been interfering with it, in violation of the Rules. I'd report the fraud to the online site and get the company banned. But then thievery makes my blood boil, and I don't care who was doing the stealing. Theft and fraud are theft and fraud and cannot be tolerated.
like ure not stealing some1s stuff in their storage. gtfo. people get sick, injured, lose jobs, n yall pay a couple pennies n think ure justified to it. nah
I get dismayed at the amount of deceit and other bad behavior you encounter in the reseller market - particularly with these storage units. I suppose it's true with any given group of people - we certainly have it in the corporate world (and on a larger scale). Still, it's one thing for the facility owners to go through the units before listing them - but if they are grabbing stuff between listing and auctioning, that's downright foolish. May be more anxiety than you want to deal with, but I think the rest of the commenters are correct - if you have pics from the ad & then what you found, ask the office for an explanation. Maybe there is a legitimate one. Then again, it may be more anxiety than you want to deal with. I think you will break even, more or less - knowing me, I would probably just move on and be wary of that company going forward. Glad you kept your sense of humor throughout. Have a great Tuesday afternoon! Weather is beautiful here . . . so glad it's a work day!
The explanation turned out to be that the spice box was removed due to the possibility of attracting rodents. Why they didn't remove that box before the pictures were taken, who knows. That would have been the logical thing to do. Considering that it was just one box, and one filled with food to boot, I wasn't that stressed about it, more wondering why I wasn't informed right away. This facility was the one where I found the unused military uniforms, but out of the handful of lockers I've purchased from here, that was the only good one. I wish storage facilities had more in-person auctions, but they reach a wider audience and so can bring in more money by online. This unit will go down as the "Missing Spice" unit, but also the cleanest unit I've ever had!
No, I would not have paid$70 for this unit. For several years now I have been watching youtubers in several different states buy storage units. I have learned alot. That is not to say that I would be brave enough to buy a unit if I could. 😊 Cobwebs and thick dust is a favorite indicator for one guy I watch. Maybe next time you will hit a good one. I enjoy all of your videos. 😊😊😊😊😊
I would definitely question them, even leaving the items behind and go get your money back…if they don’t give the law enforcement and report it to them and press charges, you do need the picture before when bidding and then when you opened it up so law enforcement has proof of scamming going on with the property owner and or staff. Don’t let them get away with it!
Well poo if someone went into the storage unit after you purchased it. I would at least let them know. I do love your disposition through out this unit. Great going Renee' Hopefully you can get more for that sewing machine. ~ Texas
The only exception to them removing a box would be if the food/spice box actively had bugs in and around it, and they removed it to prevent infestation. Otherwise it’s dishonest for them to do that😞
I would definitely say something to whoever is running that auction..also Renee you can always sell the bins at the flea market to try and recoup some of your money. Hope you get lucky and either break even or make a small profit. Sorry it wasn’t a good unit.
I bought a new sewing machine ten years ago. It was over 3 hundred $. But it had all kinds of stitch sizes and stitch types. I'd pay $100 for a good working machine. If you ask $1 for each little item, it will sell at flea market. ❤️
That's what I use those butter cookie tins for....for my sewing kit, such as thread, needles, buttons, etc. ☺️ I sure hope that's not what happened with the storage unit. I sure wouldn't want to purchase at that facility in the future.
It would be a good idea to complain to the manager. I know of other RU-vidrs who had items missing from the lockers they got in an auction. Love your vids.
Sometimes unscrupulous management of the storage facilities put together a Unit comprise of odds and ends left in other units and sell it like it belong to somebody. .
Don't forget the value of the actual storage totes too! Those split interlocking-lid ones are nice--and at the cheapest, a medium (12 gallon) size still runs $13-15 new.
....cueing up the Wah Wah Wah whaaaaa music..😢I don't think it's legal for them to touch what's in the locker....looks shady! that's a shame.....To make yourself feel better, you can always bake some cupcakes and make coffee from the Keurig 🧁🧁🧁..One day your ship will come in!☺
I do have that colander lol. Yeah, someone totally went through that unit before you got there. It had to be an employee. I'd definitely call them out on it. That's theft. Maybe they heard there was jewelry in there and that it was in a off the wall box. They thought it would be in the spice box. I might have bought that unit. Those totes are intriguing.☺
With just the “Food & Spices” box being removed, it was because of the food & trying to control any possible rodent infestation. They really should have taken that box out before they took the pictures for the online listing.
Renee, I've been following you for a long tome and I wish you had taken before and after pictures and reported it to the managers, demanding a refund! I see many others who feel the same way. You are an honest person and this fraud has to be addressed. 66K wow, keep on vlogging, I hope I'm here when you hit 100K. Cheers, Frederick "Rik "Spector
I had a friend who's family had several storage units and they went through them all the time and he said everyone does it. I know not everyone is going thru every unit but if they see something good up front or think it has some great things then yes!! So you can still find some great jems but when you notice some so obvious then you know the answer.
Where´s the spice box ? 😐Glad to see that you look at it from the funny side of the road. On the other hand, this smells like a system of scams, and the source might be the storage locker management. "Oh, this locker was sold for seventy bucks ? Let´s take a short look if there are some real treasures inside before the buyer arrives". I have seen this happening even with stamps auction lots a couple of years ago, and the criminal was the auctioneer himself. If available, get the photos from this offer and confrontate the locker management with these missing items. After all, your profit will be the the Singer (if it works) the wine cooler and, as we all know, storage locker and trashpicking vids are yt- blockbusters so you will get your money back and even more than that. Just my two cents. Have a good one, Renée, more luck next time ! 🤞Greets from GER, U.
Apparently the spice box was removed to prevent any possible rodent infestation. Why they didn't remove that box prior to taking photographs, who knows. That's what is funny about storage facilities: they have a long list of items one cannot store, but in reality have no clue what is inside of each unit. Someone could have a unit filled with spices and fireworks, but if they pay their bill each month, no one knows. Speaking of fireworks, there was a fire at a storage facility in southern New Jersey, where 50 units were damaged. Guess it's a good thing no fireworks were stored in there! Onto the next as they say, which will be an attic adventure as Tony has secured another cleanout!
@@PaperandMoose Glad to hear about that ! Onto the next, never look back, stay positive and let´s hope that Anthony found a huge treasure chest with tons of Civil War ephemera this time ! 😃
The storage bins are in good condition...I agree with the other commentators, take a screen shot of the unit you "bought" and report the loss, if any, to the office and perhaps they will refund some of your $$.
Renee, yes, absolutely I would be suspicious of that. There’s a lot of people pulling scams like that these days I would be very concerned and I would report that nobody should’ve been going through anything
I am with everyone else. What the storage place did is wrong. I knew some people that had a storage place and the lady admitted that she would go thru the boxes and take out all the valuables. You might want to check and see if it is illegal for what they did.
Can you send a query to the auction company? Deffenetly be over $70 if all bought new, but looks like it will be a tax "write off". Dought you need that? What's a used Singer worth, $10, $20? I've never looked. Great attitude you had at this one, hope you find lots of gold in the bag. 👍👍
It is so disappointing when you’re hopes are so high. I love your positive attitude even in the face of adversity!!!! That is what makes your videos so much fun. You don’t spend time on negativity. I love the variety of your videos too. I think the bins are valuable too. At least $5 each on each of those that you would have paid retail. ♥️
Is there someone to turn your vidio and origional pics into? That is theft from you with the box missing and the movement of the others!!!!Report it to the office .
Dang, the first box and I see TWO items we have in our OWN kitchen! LOL!! I do not have even a tiny desire to purchase a storage unit - too much risk for me! I do love a great estate sale or yard or garage sale though! You are "Brave" in my book! :)
If you still have the photo of what was supposed be in there, I would think you could ask for your money back. I would go to the ownership not the managers. I have known of crooked managers of storage units. I would also dispute it on my credit card. Don't let them scam you! Maybe only buy units in person. That may be a safer bet than online.
Boxes that move on their own? Strange. A poltergeist? Possibly. Definitely, If you're a connoisseur of ‘Slapped Ham’. Grail items disguised as ‘food spices’? Another maybe. Thankfully a bag full of jewellery to root through at leisure. Small mercies. Seventy dollars of curiously fun speculation, that's what I say Renee…😊
WOW your hair grew back real quick 😂 The Baking Bride 😂 Don't Go Back To This Storage place ! And write a review on them about your experience. That hurts them
I think you made a little bit over $70 on this unit. The items aren't what you are used to selling but looking them up and pricing them allows you to learn about new things so the next time you see them for sale you will know if they are worth the time and money. Plus, you won't be tempted to keep them. Vintage notecards and stationery go for good money. One box of 10 Betsy Clark notecards just sold for $61. Such a shame about the missing box. I used to mislabel my boxes to avoid thefts. Who knows what it could have held?
I would definitely bring the missing box up to owner. From now on keep pictures from before u go in and after you win a unit take pictures before u touch anything. Compare
Don't overlook the dress shirts as some designers used silk, linen and high end cotton. I used those large shirts for material to make smaller ones and also had some buy them for vintage/stage costumes. When you sell the decanter add the shot glass for a bonus. The goodwill will add to your karma.
The storage unit business is responsible for the unit to remain exactly like the pictures that they posted. You should definitely go to the business with the pictures that they posted and compare them to the pictures when you opened the unit. I would not buy from that business again. If someone doesn’t complain, then they will continue to rip people off it might save other people this problem.
Regardless if the spice box is "missing", you still have a profitable locker. There is enough merch to double or triple you're investment, maybe more. 15 years ago when I was a first time flea market vendor, I was discouraged of the money I was making after a few weeks of doing it. I overheard a guy in the next space tell his kid, it's easier to sell 1000 things for $1 than sell one thing for $1000. What he said resonated with me, so the next week I added a $1 table to my space and sold more from that one table over the rest, I constantly saw a rise in my weekly take. Never underestimate the power of the small items.
Looks like you got scammed on this one especially if boxes in the auction photo are not in the unit. They shouldn’t be taking anything out of a unit once the post the auction photos. Is the singer sewing machine the Creative Touch model?
I'm a storage unit buyer and have purchased a unit before that, I believe the workers, had stolen from. I called the auction site immediately and reported it, and got a full refund. But if the warehouse has had an issue with pests, i.e. rats and mice, I could see removing a box marked food. Not necessarily acceptable, and I'm certain that there is a lot of theft by storage unit employees.
