In 2020, I bought my first home... an abandoned building in my village which was filled with old car parts and tools. Over the next year, I had the building renovated into a nice little tiny house cottage which I now live in and am very pleased with! I hope you enjoyed the process.

Agreed. Older buildings have so much character and new construction is just ...boring to look at if I'm being honest. Glad this little building was saved and turned into a home.

I the city I was born we have a terrible problem with people destroying or "accidentally" burning down old buildings because if they get officially registered as historical within the law, any renovations have to abide by the traditional methods in wich the building was made in the first place. Sadly, this means that most of the people that live in these older estates, who tend to be of lower income in the first place (most of the city is banana farmers), would not have the money to keep living/fixing their own homes. So it's really common for a building to burn down after it starts getting considered for a historical certification. A lot of the really old german-style buildings the city had around 30 years ago are gone, and it really saddens me, but I can't really fault the people, I get upset at the laws and think the governmet should be paying for restaurations in case the owners can't, to avoid this sort of thing.

@@Naivuren I live in a house which was built in 1596. But I only rent the appartement, I would never buy it. The windows are a pain in the ass because they HAVE to be wood and have to have a certain look. Sure, they look cool, but they don't insulate very well and are not really practical. The stairs are also pretty...idk, crooked? I don't care, but I also can't see old people living in an appartement upstairs. And even the owners of the building are not allowed to change any of this. I like my appartement and it's cozy, but I wouldn't like to be responsible for it and the house itself.

I agree, I think the peach table is such a nice match with the pillows in the background and it just brightens up that room. A simple grey table would have made the room look really boring. What’s tasteful about plasterboarding over everything including the stone walls, timber frame and fireplaces? What’s thoughtful about having the layout backwards with the bedroom and bathroom downstairs? When you spend most of your time in the lounge and kitchen? What’s thoughtful about wasting precious space with an entrance hall and a staircase, when he could have had an open plan kitchen and lounge downstairs and a spiral staircase?

I love that you were allowed to fix it with modern materials. Here in Germany there are thousands of properties in terrible condition that no one is willing to buy or even get for free because they are landmarked. That means that you need an army of historians to go through your property and they decide how you have to restore it. That means getting period correct reclaimed bricks, wood truces and roof shindles, no modern windows etc
@SkySilver777
@SkySilver777 2 года назад
on one hand I understand the sentiment bc its important to try and preserve historic landmarks, but there should definitely be a middle ground. it would be better to put the old houses to better use rather than consume more resources to build brand new places imo. but where I live you see somewhat of the opposite where beautiful historic sites gets torn down and they build a gas station or a parking lot. so I think we gotta have some give and take when it comes to this.
@leroyjenkins2639
@leroyjenkins2639 2 года назад
@@SkySilver777 i definitely have respect for people who renovate historical sites but at some point if the governing entity wants to keep it as a historical site, they should be the ones in charge of ownership and maintenance. No offense to historians but if I buy a property even with historical significance, it’s my property and I’m doing what I want with it. If they wanted it kept the way it was or renovated a certain way then they shouldn’t have sold it🤷🏻‍♂️

The same thing also happens in Brazil, so people just let the places rot and fall apart to be able to sell the property that’s left
@Serai3
@Serai3 2 года назад
I think Spain hit a happy medium when their government put a stop to all the tearing down of historical buildings. They made a law saying you could gut the inside if you had to, but the outside had to stay in original form. Thus a lot of the "antique" buildings you can still find there are actually quite modern on the inside, but the city gets to keep its cultural character.

First of all, this was strangely wholesome and I loved all the little witty comments and the part with the frog. Second of all, I absolutely love this house. This is literally the type of house that I'd consider my dream home. It's not too big, cozy, efficient and it's beautifully built. I love the view and the village is beautiful. It looks like a stunning and comfortable place to live.

Three things: 1. It is so, so amazing to see old buildings like this being restored instead of demolished and this was beautifully done IMO 2. This narration was wildly endearing 3. Your rug and table look great. Just flip the table around so the pink is on the other side. The clear side facing the open area will make your space look bigger. Beautifully done! @MorningCoffeeDaily
@MorningCoffeeDaily Год назад
@@konradlangwald7082 Yes it Might. In this cases you need to isolate the house from the problem. If there is a stream nearby, groundwater, u need to identify it, correct it by diverging the direction from the house and making the foundations water proof. If not , expensive solutions you can even add inside the walls electric system to heat the walls. usually building a "pool" system around the house will help. The roof is new right, so it wont be through there.

In Germany you have to make the renovation similar in style to the era for listed monuments. I think its the same for our former EU partners on the islands.😁 A friend of mine renovated an old farm building an had to build in a second new door because the first was to modern in style. 8000€ for the trash.
@IvaanCroatia
@IvaanCroatia Год назад
We got plenty of small houses like this in Croatia, but the issue is the material and renovation cost, it's like x10 than the price of the property itself. Also what Marc said, you are required to keep the windows, doors and the facade "in style" with the village, you can't have a modern solar house in a village with old historical buildings (makes sense).
