32GB is bad news for a Windows 10 laptop. It makes it very difficult to update windows because windows update demands 8GB+ of free space. This makes these laptops a security risk. I bought a laptop with 32GB storage and I can't make enough space to update. I have to use another laptop or desktop (which I don't have) and a usb drive to do the update. There must literally be millions of these 32GB eMMC laptops out there that can't be updated. Microsoft really need to find a better solution to this problem.

I actually scored my Samsung Chromebook 3 for $90 from Amazon in the summer of 2017. I mainly use it as a Hulu and Netflix machine because my 'main' laptop is garbage. I also like to hook it up to the big-ass tv in my living room and watch my movie collection on it

I have the Celeron N3450 version of the ASUS. Upgraded it with an SSD and the day-to-day performance is sufficient. It's not really fast, but for your college requirements needs, it works out.

I feel like Chromebooks can replace windows. It's small light simple and can run android apps. Whereas windows is big and slow and not good for older laptops

Maybe at that price range one can also considered used options? For example, the Dell Latitude D630 revised version that I got has a much better Magnesium build quality than any of these here, has the biggest screen, better keyboard, and upgradability to better config than all of these here, if not already much better. Though there are obvious downsides such as battery life, size/mass, and the GPU cooling problem if you don't know how to replace the thermal pad with a copper shim. Similar things can be said for other business laptops like ThinkPad T61/p for example.

I got an older Dell Inspiron witha Pentium N3530. Pretty great laptop for travel (light with long battery), web surfing etc. Upgraded to SSD and put more Ram in it and it's been a great one to work with for the price. Can't game, but I got anotehr for that.

This is actually cool, but if you insist a bit with some patience and you don't mind a USED laptop, you can find much better one with those prices.But it might depend on what you want: Size, Noise, Aspect(might trick you), Performance, Present/Older Technology, etc. I mean, you cand find one that is pretty old , but still decent for office work, music, movies and some silly games, afterall , you're looking for cheap but acceptable. I, for one, i hunted two months for a laptop, and i've got a used T440 (i5 /8gb /bios free) for 125$(hard to deal with currencies). Having patience is the trick to find the right person to make a deal, this works if you don't have money or don't want to buy a new one, whatever is good for you.

I work at a company that sells these laptops. Please do not buy them. They're absolute garbage. Some have as high as a 20% return rate cause they're so slow. Spend at least $250 on a laptop, please!

I'm literally watching this on a $180 laptop

I bought an Evoo 11.6 inch laptop for $70 on eBay, it was actually usable and could run some games, TF2, Stardew Valley, and Minecraft although for TF2 I needed to bring the settings down and Minecraft needed Optifine to run better. I did use GeForce now on it and it ran fine obviously. I've now switched to a $97 dollar Mid2007 MacBook with Xubuntu OS on it and it's much better.

Running Windows isn't hard on a 32GB hard drive. You can just install a Lite version of Windows 7 and you should be good if you don't play games and do heavy work.

I do have to say, if it were my choice, I'd still go with the Asus in spite of all the performance drawbacks. Let's face it, none will blow your socks off, but the Asus will at least compensate with versatility and value otherwise. Keyboard, screen size and detail, I/O, and upgradability (I guess?) make it a more compelling buy for me. Obviously more people would probably go for the performance, but I like having options, and the Asus gives me plenty. If operating system and I/O weren't a concern (at least for me), the Chromebook would be the best experience, I imagine.

the funny thing is that the computers that are standard issue for my school are the samsung chromebook 3. They are pretty decent, and are ok for school use. Not something i'd recommend for home and personal use, however.

I wish all laptop reviews included things such as any additional ram slots, wifi card replaceable, and hard drive replaceable (at least one of them it was). I' also going to advise against any Windows tablets/laptops that has the emmc 32gb non-replaceble storage for people who are not power users at least (this may be cheap, but not for the technically illiterate), because you don't know how to change the default install location it's not for you.
