XD i never buy from adds expect for wish stuff but most of the time i save it and never order cause i dont want to deal with this crap of not delivering or stealing my money kinda things. also A LOT of adds i get are only shipping to the usa and im in the netherlands in europe.... so im not sure they understand where i am asswell XD
LOVED this video premise. I've bombed out trying most foods but Goldbelly in the US has a mega infrastructure for food/restaurant, so that's my go to for Christmas shopping for both sets of parents. My daughter and I call it "sugar hunting" when we visit new bakeries... and it's similar online, except the darn shipping isn't the same as walking in somewhere for a single cookie or cupcake. :) If you haven't yet, do this with cupcakes that are also available in the USA for us! Cupcakes are my life. :D
IMO one cookie is a dessert for at least 3 or 4 people. I would cut everyone a slice and then it’s not so expensive anymore. If I would live in the US, I would definitely order it. 😋
The Blume lattes are not like the others!! I promise! I can see why she reacted like that (especially after eating so many sweet things, and getting the flavours that feel like they should be more sweet), but the point of them are that they are low or no sugar drinks. The price is SUPER reasonable for what it is. But I got into them with their turmeric and beetroot lattes, and evolved into the more fun flavours with them. I can see that the earthiness would be jarring if you order Starbucks type flavours expecting a Starbucks type experience.
You should order a cake from a bakery and say it’s for a video and then have one of your friends order a cake with the same budget and category and compare them. I think it would be interesting to see if they only make you special cakes because it’s going on RU-vid. 😂
So I used to be in a facebook group with a baker that made one of her Christmas cakes. I talked with the baker a while about it and she seemed genuine when she told me she did not alter her work even though she knew it was for a video
All of them seemed way overpriced to me. Over $70 for a tiny cake and 3 cupcakes? I'm going to the grocery store and buying M&Ms and throwing them on a grocery store cake 😂 my kid is definitely not going to notice the difference. I'm curious about how the Maca affected your mood for the day though, Laurie 😉😆
I think these are supposed to be a bit more luxurious regarding their ingredients and taste, if that makes sense. Not saying getting wallmart cakes is bad, but if you want something completely handmade by one person/small team and support them vs a grocery store chain, I think going that route is okay too. But then again, I don't buy cakes let alone such expensive cakes, so what do I know haha
I’m surprised she didn’t bring up it wasn’t what she was advertised. The cake she showed had candy pouring out and chocolate frosting on top. That’s not what she got at all
the facts that it’s canada changes nothing. like $70CAD is $50USD. i refuse to spend that much on a single cake for 10 people, let alone a tiny cake and three cupcakes. at walmart in the states, i could get a whole ass cheesecake for $10 and a party sheet cake to feed 16 for $20
Needing to pay more for shipping that has been allowed to go through with a purchase, assuming you put in your address/postcode correctly, is super sketchy. The onus should be on the shop to calculate shipping correctly 😑
Yeah I don't get it. I have an Aunt who lives in Canada. And there are Times it is cheaper to send us the money. Have us Order it, then ship it to her. Then she buying it from the USA. However I can order something from Canada and it costs the same as ordering from the USA. It makes NO sense to me.
Yeah, this is the bane of my life. I live in the North of Scotland and some shipping companies refuse to ship here on the basis of "not shipping outside of the mainland"... but I'm on the mainland! And so many websites are bad at taking and accepting an order to my address no problem, then hours or days later getting back in touch to demand another £20+ shipping. If it was going to be a problem, why didn't your website stop the order? Or charge more in the first place? It drives me up the wall. Tell me up front what it will cost or don't let me order so I can make a decision now rather than have to sort this out again tomorrow, argh
@@Accountforstuff Wow that really is infuriating. I live in Australia, where you'd imagine the problem would be worse given how far it is from everywhere except New Zealand, but I've never once experienced this. Perhaps companies can just go 'either we can ship to Australia or we can't - there's no grey area' 😂
So fun fact: your chocolates are Christopher Elbow chocolates. They're the supplier of a lot of different companies - local, nationwide, and international. I realized this when I used to work for a company who used them as a supplier and a local chocolate shop had chocolates with the exact same prints on top of the chocolates, which match your chocolates as well. One of their current Halloween chocolates matches your chocolate with the mouth print
@@jellsyoutube those are similar but with different top patterns/colors. Jacque also has different Halloween options. The mouth printed on top is one of Christopher's Halloween options
Yeah I think what happened is a scam website uses those chocolates which is also why the menu doesn’t match the chocolates AND why they are so overpriced. Basically reselling while pretending to be a different company!
I am from Edmonton and I saw those chocolates and immediately recognized them from several shops here. Then when I saw it said Edmonton area shipping it made sense. I’m not sure what the websites deal was but you can get them in person here and they are legit chocolates lmao
the last chocolates def just be re-boxed purdy's 😭😭i bought cookies online once and they shipped them with no packing or bubblewrap they just bounced around in a huge box and i left a bad review and the company told me "kindly never order from us again"
Oh it’s the maca that tastes like that? I got a dairy free, coconut based ‘creamer’ that has maca in it and it made me gag. Had to throw out the coffee I made with it. I like Blume lattes cause I like a certain amount of earthy flavour, but that ‘creamer’? 🤢
Those edible arrangements cakes would have kissed me off. That looks so cheap. Also the picture looks like it is filled with m&ms but they were just in top.
For me i dont find as worth it because i have to clean the kitchen after that and im messy im sure local bakeries have similar items with way more reasonable prices for those whose dont wanna do it themselfs like me tho
I absolutely hate edible arrangements. The idea is great but it’s overpriced and the food is just mediocre at best. My husband knows to never get it for me again. They have been disappointing!
I agree. Totally prefer a snack bouquet with packaged stuff. Cookies, candy, crackers. Those are adorable. When my husband's mother passed away, the place he works sent a Harry & David basket. The fruit was so vile when you opened it, it smelled like alcohol. If it had been once, maybe it woukd be ok. We got one another time from someone else, and it too was just appalling. I wouldn't order a Harry & David shipment if it was free, and I was starving, lol
This basically confirmed why I have never bought anything off facebook ads. I guessed the price was gonna be way more than it's worth lol thank you for taking one for the team
Omggg seeing YVR cookie made my day. These are local hometown small business and seriously a 10/10. I’m so glad people across the country are getting to experience them!! 🥰🙏
In the UK we have just had major powercuts. The electric line in my house exploded last night. Its cold, we have no hot water, limited power and all the food has spoiled. I've just picked up mcdonalds and sat down on my floor feeling defeated. This is exactly what I needed! This video has cheered me up ❤ im going to binge all your old videos now too 😊
@CuriosityRocks thank you. Thankfully the UK is much better than other countries such as the US in terms of the severity of storms. I'm grateful for that. Living in the country side in old houses though can be tough! The tinest bit of rain and poof everythings down. £50 of raw meat all gone! No phone signal, no wifi no electricity.
i’m surprised you didn’t cancel your sweet lollapalooza order! they took your money, didn’t ship your order, kept your money, then demanded more money to ship your order rather than offering a refund or to ship them asap. sooooo sketchy. and they seemed like they were going to be WAY bigger based on their product description, product photos, ads, and packaging.
I think the gummies are kohakutou which are japanese jellies made of agar agar. They are easy to make but take sometime. It might be interesting to see you try to make them
They are, but it’s kind of a bastardized version. Traditional kohakutou often has a more delicate appearance, like frosted glass, and the texture is sublime, with a thin crunchy layer and a delicate, softer inside that isn’t chewy, but is like jelly with a lot less give. I’ve been trying to make it myself, but you need certain conditions to get it to cure right.
Those prices are crazy! On special occasions I order postal brownies and a box of 6 in lovely packaging cost less than £20. There's also a huge selection of local home bakers who advertise on our local community pages making various cakes, treats and desserts for cheaper than thst.
From what I was told (different country, though), sellers use ordinary sized boxes for even tiny products, because a) they don't want them to get lost; b) they don't want them to get damaged - like it's much easier to accidentally step on a flat tiny box than a regular one. (But the chocolates could have been sent in a simple padded envelope anyway...)
For one edible arrangement in cali i paid over $120., and it was for mothers day.... 3 people, but it was so expensive that we could only get one, and literally everyone got a maximum of 4 pieces of fruit from the arrangement. I could have made the entire thing for all three people for less than a fraction of that. A fruit flower isn't always needed. Crafts, even edible ones, can be fun.
Sooo appreciate your honesty about all the products and the experience with the companies. As a Saskatchewan resident, I share your frustration about shipping to Canada 😵💫
I just love to see you bake and rate bakeries! I think it would be fun to see you bake cakes from different countries and rate them! For example in Denmark we have brunsviger, hindbærsnitter and drømmekage! All cakes that most danes love! I'm sure other countries have special cakes as well!
I think the kohakutou (the gem gummies) are so pretty and you can def make them for cheaper. The reason they are expensive is probably cuz you have to wait for them to harden, they cut it by hand, the flavours are interesting and they are not common. People usually up the price for something like that, tho I wonder how much they cost in Japan.
Loved the emotional roller coaster! ❤❤We NEED a series of you making 5-star versions of classic childhood snack cakes and cookies... I mean, gourmet Nanaimo bars and Joe Louis!?? YES PLEASE 😋🍪🍰🍮
I’ve never ordered any desserts from FB…..just don’t trust FB. I usually rely on recommendations from friends, family….or wait for you Laurie to do the work for me…🤭🤭 Everything you ordered was exhortatively expensive in price of product and shipping. That’s pretty much why I wouldn’t bother. The stuffed cookies seemed the best, but at $8 + a cookie….no way. I’ll stick to shopping local. There are some awesome sweet shops in my area, and online local vendors who make awesome goodies.
In the middle of watching something else, RU-vid interrupts me to say that Laurie and Kevin have a new video posted. Sorry what I'm already watching, gotta go! I know it can be a little difficult to appreciate added time into the cost of custom made products, but some of those were ridiculous for pricing and shipping. Yes, chocolates, specifically you and that nonsense packaging.
Thanks for being here so early (and ditching someone else's video LOL)! Delivery for everything is nuts. For example you can buy flowers at the store for $20 but to get them delivered is $75. SO it's good to keep that kind of thing in mind with some of these.
The agar agar jellies are so easy to make. I can't even imagine spending that for pennies of ingredients and 4 days of drying to make the outside crispy
I would LOVE to see you make the sugar crystals at home the recipe is all over! I also would enjoy seeing you make stuffed cookies maybe even into a cookie cake or pull apart cake
I love Blume lattes!! But I CACKLED because I had the same reaction to the birthday cake one! Once I got over the fruit punch flavour I could enjoy it as birthday cake, but I definitely got hit with fruit punch before birthday cake which was.. odd. I LOVE the psl, especially when I add it to (decaf) coffee. I don’t think they’re made to be drank *because* they’re healthy, it’s just a ‘if you’re going to have an afternoon drink, it’s easier on the body to have spices and ashwaganda than caffeine’ I’ve also found that I enjoy them way more when my palette isn’t calibrated to refined sugar. Like, of course it’s going to taste earthy after eating stuffed cookies, the point of it is that it’s a low sugar/sugar free latte! That you can get the flavour without the sugar based syrups. I’d suggest giving them another shot without a) trying them right after eating something super sweet and b) without expecting it to taste like a cake, to frame it as natural blends with inspiration from the flavours. I think I like them more because I was introduced to them with their turmeric and beetroot lattes, and then tried out the salted caramel and birthday cake evolutions. I can see how it would be jarring starting with the ‘birthday cake’. (After all that- off to the kitchen to make myself a birthday cake latte 😂)
I absolutely love your videos!!! I don't bake or even eat that much baking but your videos are so fun, entertaining and enjoyable to watch. You two have the best energy!
Blume is sell locally in my coffee shop store section. Iuse a few of their product (chaï and matcha powder) and they are good and legit. I use the powder for cooking like making a chaï whipped cream. Alternative to coffee (like maca, chicory or chaga) are nothing like coffee... that probably why you did like them you did not know. Fun video.
As a former small bakery owner I can confidently say these prices are baffling to me. I charged way more for my cakes than I ever would have paid for myself (actually why I started, so I could give my kids awesome custom cakes). And. When you charge this much, you have got to deliver on all fronts. Flavor, appearance, presentation, and customer service. Facebook promoting this insanity is just sad.
the "gems" are called kohakutou and EASILY made... the thing thats upping the price SO MUCH is a mix of perhaps a tad more "exotic" flavorings and honest to god food gentrification
I worked at Edible arrangements for my first job in high school. I honestly recommend it to get familiar in the working field and customer service. It’s a hands on and kinda fun job that lets u be a lil creative too.
I feel like i would never order any of these things for myself, but the only reason I'd ever order that kind of thing would be to send it as a gift to someone who lived far away from me. In which case, it could make sense for them to market it to me even if they didn't necessarily deliver in my area.
Want more vids wen u bake a cake..its really fun to watch n love it. I love watching ur videos cos they are fun nd a mood changer. Thank u laurie for being my therapist.
What the EFF are you doing!? Why didn’t you immediately call the bank and block that sketchy site that didn’t give you the box and knew your name? How dumb? That sounded 100% like an obvious scam and you still gave em more money? Like wtf?
Ahhh silky gem! I’ve been curious to try for years, but never have because of the price and have always wondered if it’s worth it. Their store front actually isn’t that crazy far away from me, so I’ve considered going straight to them to try without shipping 🤣
Make it at home!! All you need is this vegan gelatin powder and sugar basically..for flavor some flavored syrup and it works pretty well. Worst case scenario I got hard candies instead of slightly gelled ones haha. Just cook it and put them in molds..WAY cheaper!!
As someone who has been to Edmonton- I can confirm Sweet Lollapalooza is a real place. As for how they won so many awards in the same years- there are multiple categories and you can win more than once in one category!
Omg, I love you. I just came across your channel and have been lying in bed loving every second of your personality. Love cameraman Hubby as well. Hitting the subscribe button cause I am not gonna miss out on anything. This may be the 3 videos I have seen this morning, but I am already intrigued after video 1. Keep up the amazing work with everything you're doing. 💜
I love your shirt as a genZ … very nostalgic… I wouldn’t call gem stone crystals as gummies because they could easily be confused as something else. Love your channel! Excited for your next realistic cake video… those are my favorite ❤️
The crystal candies are super popular on TikTok right now! People are using them to make ASMR videos because of the texture, so that's probably why they cost so much.
The cheek , the nerve ,the gall , the audacity and the gumption of the chocolate people to be like 'oh sorry if you didn't get your stuff , please give us 10 more dollars so we can get them to you' and then you end up getting less chocolate than you would if you had used those 50 bucks to buy Ferrero Rocher
I didn't ultimately buy it, but I was tempted to buy some mochi ice creams from a shop in New York (I'm in Denver) because it looked so tasty in the Facebook ad. What finally put me off was the $60 minimum purchase with $30 shipping. I just didn't think it was smart to pay $90 for an ice cream treat that I wasn't even sure I would like.
Those sugar crystal things are usually a small treat you would have in like a tea ceremony. It’s so funny to see how popular it became to just eat them by themselves or for ASMR lol
I also bought those silky gem edible crystals and I hated every flavor I got. It was definitely a disappointment and I would never pay that much for that product again which is a shame because they looked so good and I had been seeing them everywhere so I was super excited. Bummer :(
Having not one, but 3 coeliac peeps at my house, we rarely can find things gluten-free, let alone things that deliver. But oh, during lockdown and discovering a place that made and delivered gluten-free doughnuts for Mother's Day - life-changing. However, the best thing we get delivered is potato chips (also discovered during lockdown). Grown in the South Island, and shipped to us in the North Island in NZ - delightful! I might just make an order right now...
_HolyMolyDonutShop!_ It literally looks like “the baker” had _their_ *kids* decorate those cupcakes! 😳 And the last one looks _exactly_ like those chocolates you order from a catalog from a kid’s fundraiser. Y’all know *_that_* catalog-it’s usually chocolates, wrapping paper and flavored popcorns that have pictures blown up-but when you _finally_ actually receive the order, that your niece begged you to buy, it’s a tin the size of that box…along with a wrapping paper roll that’s _only,_ a foot, _maybe_ 2 feet wide! 🙄🙃😆
Hi from Scotland. Love your channel. Would you consider doing one of your ones from various bakeries but being free-from? I have a dairy allergy, but love baking.
Maca root saved my life lol. I was suffering from really bad PMDD and it helped pull me out of it. It can have.. um.. other effects as well lol. The “get yah in the mood part”is very accurate.
