the TD4 engine in the freelander is a solid BMW engine and there is nothing wrong with the rover 1800 engine just look after them my wife has had here 1800 petrol engine for 23 years her car is 25 years old and once she had the head gasket done but properly like head skimmed and tested a new 3 ply head gasket on and all should be well and the reason it went in the first place was the cutbacks LR did on the Gasket thank you for the video
Nick the Rover specialist from Austin Garages told me that when the car beeps when you unlock and open the doors, it means the battery soon needs changing in the key fob. It was almost helpful learning this only 2 months ago, having owned a Freelander for 7 years, lol.
I really miss my 03 Kalahari, as I sold it when the rust holes started to appear and I cannot weld where I am now living. The beeping alarm can be fixed with a new battery in the fob (CR 2032 ?) You need to be careful about the engine breather on the TD4 as it gums up. EGR bypass is a good move and don't drive with the back window down as it sucks in exhaust fumes (noted in handbook) but ok with rear roof removed. If I'd been able to find one that cheap, I would have snapped the sellers hand off !
We had an 04 TD4 we actually liked it. Lots of issues though. Two amigos warning lights almost straight after we bought it. It's the brake switch. Allegedly the supplier changed the specs without telling Land Rover. A replacement switch requires a new bit of wiring which was more than the switch. The high pressure fuel pump failed followed by the low pressure fuel pump. The wiring to the ECU had to be replaced. There is an official Land Rover part for that. At one stage it started misfiring so badly the exhaust was hitting the floor, never got to the bottom of that one, I put a large amount of fuel system cleaner in it and it just stopped. The glass on the back had to be pushed in with pressure or it wouldn't slot into the door frame properly otherwise and then would direct water straight into the interior. The headlight bulbs would frequently blow probably why there were some in that car. Eventually the clutch started to go I didn't want to do it so we took it to our regular I don't want to do it garage. They said "we did one before, it'll be expensive and we don't want to do it". I was still waiting for the IRD to fail. A percentage of these are front wheel drive only after the IRD was binned after failing.
Had a 2000/V reg one of these with the old 2.0DI diesel engine which was a bit agricultural but reliable, your Td4 is best engine as you say. Mine towed my caravan great. As others have said check the prop shaft is present and the VCU is not seized, if it is then it will knacker the IRD, window regulators also fail regularly. Gearbox eventually went on mine at 150k. Back window is great until lock mechanism breaks and you can’t open the rear door. Great car for light off-roading. Great channel, look forward to the videos
i have a story about this car model, Joe. get your popcorn and your drinks and enjoy: so, this was roughly 8/9 years ago now, and my parents owned an E46 3 series Estate, we drove down to london to go and buy one of these, and the BMW broke down right outside the land rover owner’s house, because we were going to do a part ex. The Land Rover didn’t want the BMW so we went home and bought an A4 Avant S-Line, which was clocked from 154k miles down to 94k miles. i wish this was just a made up story but it wasn’t 😂
I had a FL1 I bought cheap.. Great run around. Not great build quality but solid. Now have a FL2 which is such a capable car. Land Lovers are just special.
I got a 2004 ford fiesta ghia that is sitting in my drive way that I braught as my first car but the clutch has gone and it had some over work that needed to be done on it witch I have already done the engine is fine and the gear box and it's very good on out side I'm debating whether or not I should scrap it or fix it then sell it?
The carpets are of hard-wearing, good quality material on these. The boot area could come up like new after a couple of hours of decent vacuum and wet-vac.
I had 3 Freelander 1s and 2 Freelander 2s. One was 100% modded whack it in reverse full lock see if it judders and check theres a prop shaft present. TD4 is the only engine worth bothering with the 1.8 K Series Engine is awful. Where can I send a photo of my old Pride and Joy?
Not a fan of 4x4, but good vid Sent you a message about a Skoda fabia I thought you might be interested in for at £500 for your channel But did not get a reply
