Probably somebody bought the T.I. for little Johnny's Xmas present, then Johnny was not so nice leading up to the holiday and Santa forgot all about his present.

5:14 that's a good illustration for the culture difference between US and Japan - US loves big cars, huge meal portions, big homes. While Japan have small cars, small sushi 🍣 and tiny (by american standards) apartments in their major cities. Love both cultures 💙💛

What can you do with a PSP? Play Locoroco, Patapon, Outrun coast to coast, Lumines, Gran Turismo, Vice City Stories, Chinatown wars, Killzone Liberation…

I still have my boxed PAL N64 from 1998, I was able to buy an unboxed Japanese N64 with an RGB mod in the UK on ebay for 40 quid plus 5 quid postage. Fortunately the UK PSU works with the Japanese N64 so I didn't need to use a step-down transformer, which I needed for my Japanese Saturn before I swapped out the PSU for one which takes 12V DC as an input. I also swapped in my N64 RAM expansion from my PAL system. Lylat Wars/Starfox 64, Doom 64, Quake 64, Quake 2, Perfect Dark, Wave Race, Extreme G and Wipeout 64 are some of my favourites on the 64. Gotta love the Crusin' series too, yeah it's janky Outrun but they have a charm and a vibe that is great.

The PSP is incredibly hacker-friendly. You load CFW on it via the Memory Stick port and run all your games that way. It's dead simple to do. You will likely need a microSD -> Memory Stick adapter, though. One reason to play PSP is that it still has the definitive version of Final Fantasy IV. The DS remake and pixel remaster failed at measuring up to it. There are many other quality PSP titles that are worth checking out. It's a really cool (and powerful) handheld, especially for its time.

First time I saw a real famicom was about 1990. A kid from Japan had joined my school and I saw his nintendo and was surprised that we couldn't trade game cartridges. He also had a transformers game that we never had too!

That's wild about the TI-99, it was just lurking up there the whole time, probably working on some evil scheme but not getting anywhere on just 16kB. Maybe someone bought it and then realized it's a TI-99/4A, or maybe it fell off a truck and someone found it and tried to get the rebate. Probably a good call not modding the famicom, with the placement of the PPU I think it's not a great candidate for the NESRGB mod anyway. I'd maybe go for a composite mod with the old fami if I were planning to use it as a daily driver. The later model AV Famicom is great for that, compact as the early model but with the AV multiout connector, and it's pretty.

It's extra weird because the silver TI is older than the one we had and would have been more expensive too. No idea! I still have an eye out for a Sharp twin famicom. And a disk system. Wheeee!

I’ll confess to getting bit by the Yahoo Japan bug in the last few years, particularly hardware. No, I didn’t really need 3 Densha de Go controllers, a Sega Saturn mouse, and Virtual On controllers for both the Saturn and Dreamcast, but here I am.

Don't forget that the Famicom has support for extra sound channels.
@Home_Rowed
@Home_Rowed Год назад
True, though to be more technical the Famicom Disk System has the extra sound chip built in, while the Famicom itself has support for external sound chips built into the cartridges. The FDS is a separate add-on, and was used for games like the Japanese versions of Zelda 1 & 2, and Castlevania 1 & 2. Then the Japanese Castlevania 3, on a standard Famicom cartridge, has the sound chip built in. Though there have been mods to get the English Castlevania 3 to run on the NES with the extra sound channels, so Konami was probably just being cheap for the non-Japanese market back then.
@infinitecanadian
@infinitecanadian Год назад
@@Home_Rowed I did say that the Famicom had support for extra sound channels and did not deny that the sound channels needed to be in cartridges or the FDS which, by the way, wasn't used in Akumajoh Densetsu.

Wow - just the box alone is probably worth what you paid for the entire Famicom - amazing condition. Fascinating to see all the quirks of this machine. I had no idea the Famicom was so small compared to a NES, and the comic that came with it was basically one of those tutorials in a game disguised as a normal level. Really sweet way to do it. I wonder if the bottom of the box did originally have a bottom that just got lost over the years? Anyways, you got a great deal there. Right, I need to watch the rest of the video now ☺️

Here’s a tech question and challenge for you! I challenge anyone to come up with a way to replace the floppy drive unit in a Commodore 1541 with an NOS floppy like the Tandon you showed!! There’s so many 1541’s out there with head failures but otherwise function perfectly, it would be nice to be able to get them going again! (I have three!)
@retrobitstv
@retrobitstv Год назад
It's kind of a shame the drive mechanism inside a 1541 isn't just a standard PC drive so it's not a straightforward swap. I have seen a successful head swap from a PC drive done though. I'm sure someone more talented than I could design some hardware to bridge the 1541's on-board controller to a PC drive's. I will be here waiting patiently 😁

Hmmm, famicom. ^_^ As a brit I'm in a weord situation where I actually played on one of these, and a NES no less, when I was a kid pretty regularly. It has some genuine nostalgia feels for me, ah the memories of Urban Champ and obscure Japanese games. It's what made me want a NES myself. Also... 'Es Nes'? Well you're just trying to upset everyone, ain'tcha. I approve. XD
