@Kardz22 the production was never a problem, tho it's not strong enough to erase some of his weaker areas. If you don't relate to the content of his songs then he just comes across as a rapper with typical sounding flows, basic wordplay, and bad hooks.

@@vandakaii2893 um no, you seem to have some readong comprehension issues cause my original comment did not say that at all, but I'll try to break it down even more so it's easier to understand... If a rapper is actually good at rapping (has good wordplay, flow, delivery, etc.) then people will be able to appreciate their music regardless of the content. Even if I dont agree with some of the stuff in a song, I can at least appreciate the skill on display. A rapper like Pusha T is a good example. I cant relate to most of his content and I dont like the glorification of selling (or using) drugs, but his wordplay and lyrical ability is undeniable so I can still enjoy his music die to his rapping skills. Old eminem is another example, a lot of the stuff he rapped about was not relatable to me at all but his lyrics, flow, and delivery still made his older music great. On the other hand, if a rapper is bad, the only people who will like their music are people who agree with what they are saying... Tom would be a perfect example for this cause his fans are... well let's just say all of you guys agree with most of what he raps about. Hopefully you're able to understand this comment so it can clear up the confusion you had about my previous comment.

I find too much of his lyrical content, especially his singles output, to be focused on trolling people and making them mad, which I think is pretty juvenile and corny. Even with someone like Eminem, who has undeniable skills, I don't find a lot of his content nearly as entertaining as I did as a kid. Of course the difference between Tom and Em, is that Em actually had the massive influence and subsequent backlash to make his persecution complex justifiable. Tom acts like he's public enemy number one, when most people haven't heard of him outside of videos like these. His self-importance is off-putting but also hilarious, which is why -- admittedly -- it's funny to make fun of him and his surprising sincere fans. In any case, he's corny and self-important and not original enough as a rapper to hold my attention and make up for his persona. If he rapped more about Big Pharma and other corporate corruption, mental health and what's wrong with the rap industry -- without painting himself as some sort of unappreciated prophet -- I would like him more. But yeah, Tom's problem is just that he's in that "corny rapper" section with the likes of Hopsin. I say that because his message comes off as a little forced and unauthentic, not from the heart/soul. The subject matter could be and is interesting -- much of which has been covered better by rappers that came before him, outside of a few things of course. Songs like "Peaceful Journey" by Heavy D (1990), "I'll Be Around" by Rappin 4-Tay (1993), "Stakes is High" by De La Soul (1996), "I Can" by Nas (2003) and many other songs talk about being against violence, crime, child exploitation and other worldly vices; with inspirational lyrics that remain potent decades later. What gets me is most of Tom's fanbase act like he's the messiah of hip-hop, like _nobody_ before him has _ever_ talked about being against drugs or criticizing the music industry's predatory ways or the misleading lifestyle that some artists portray in their music, etc. It just pisses me off as someone who has breathed hip-hop inside and out his entire life, to see people who never gave a crap about the genre all of a sudden want to put one foot in, deeming Tom Macdonald as the savior and prophet as if all hip-hop was before him was Migos, 6ix9ine, and Cardi B. I'll see so many comments talking about "I don't usually like rap but I like this" or "Finally, someone's not rapping about drugs and disrespecting women" like WTF? As of now, he isn't doing anything to bridge the gap of the divide he tends to rap about, which is only ever one-sided. As someone who has been in both left-wing and right-wing circles, there are problems on both sides that deserve to be discussed.
