I brought a “ wild” dove home that had an injured wing, and it’s all healed. They strange thing about the little dove is “Lovey “ allowed me to pet and nurture her. Now it’s to cold to let her go, they told me she wouldn’t survive. I gave it a nest, put their surroundings around , it built to rest of the nest! So now, I feel I need to adopt a friend, can anyone give me suggestions?she eats, loves the “ pie “ pan of water I have for her. I turn on dove noises so it won’t feel alone. I wanted to release her so badly, she refuses to allow me to catch her, & I wasn’t about to stress her out. I think, deeply feel she loves the hospitality given and grateful for the care! I’m calling it a she because it hasn’t cooed , she’s so quite however loves and listens to me talk to her, she interact like she knows what I’m saying, this all may sound strange, however it just is! Any suggestions? She’s silver with a ring, healthy eyes, she’s looking so healthy. Thanks to anyone that can help us!
could be she's a domestic dove, hard to tell without pictures and size comparisons bc Eurasian doves look pretty similar to ringneck doves except bigger. I'd say keep her, doves can be fed dove seed mix or wild bird seeds provided with grit... thank you for being kind enough to save a lil dove~
Thank you so much for reaching out! I’ve fallen in love with her!! I’ll feed her what you recommended, she has a few bags of dove food! I also give her greens and apples! She’s smaller, she doesn’t look very old as well, she seems so happy, which makes me even more happier! I feel she needs a friend, they seem happier with another. Would you suggest this for her?
@@mamashanshan2772 if she's pretty small she most likely is a domesticated dove that may have come from somewhere else, so it's lovely that you're taking good care of her now! but getting her a friend would be nice, to be certain though (if she's coo'd at all) does she sound like the doves in the videos or react to it or pictures of other ringneck doves? or sound like an Eurasian coo (you can search on youtube for their sounds too)? it'll help to identify her species and sex to help determine a partner for her, since in my experience males will fight males and females will fight females too... i hope you can find a nearby pet place that can help you with that too :0💕
Alhamdulillah, ur doves r too adorable, plz take good care of them. The water level in their water bowl is too low, plz give them clean water to drink nd change this water twice daily, these birds r very special.
Do they get along? My male dove comes off as very very territorial. He attacks anything white he encounters and bow coos at it, he's about 12 years old now and he's been alone is whole life. I was thinking of getting another dove but I'm afraid he's gonna kill it lol.
Rarely ever do doves fight to the death. When i first introduced my female dove to Birdie, he immediately got territorial and started attacking her, but they eventually became friends and then lovey-dovey. The most damage the male will do to the intruder is pull out feathers.
Are these doves hand-fed? They're lovely! I'm thinking of asking hubby to build an aviary. Are doves happy in an aviary? BTW, Kiwi, my Lovebird, really enjoyed the video. 😂 He loves listening to RU-vid videos of birdsong... Any birds. Thank you for posting the vid!
Karen Miller Nope! The male dove randomly flew into our yard one day and we kept him then after a year or so I bought him a mate. They had two babies later on and they're pretty tame as well, also I say go for it! The doves will enjoy a nice sized aviary but I'd recommend having more than 2 males and 2 females because they'll start fighting, or just 1 male and 1 female, also thank you Kiwi~
Sorry... That enter button is trigger-happy. Lol It's great that you ended up with pairs and babies. They seem so sweet. Kiwi, our Lovebird, is from an aviary that had all the Lovebirds in one flight... All colors just breeding on their own. He's the meanest little cuss we've ever had, but we love him. I'd love to have more. I think I see an aviary in our future. We have a pair of doves nesting in our chimney, and can hear them cooing during the day. They're the grey mourning doves... Beautiful. Thanks for sharing your story with me. I might be sending you pics of our babies soon! Karen
I really need this an answer. how long does it take from hatchling to complete maturity? i bought 3 baby doves which is a plus because all 3 are so calm around me and i can grab them, caress them and they just talk back to me . lol please let me know. ty
ringneck dove, but honestly looks like some white dove mixed in. boys bob up and down when they sing (like in the video), girls dont sing as often and just keep their head down when they sing
hi i take in birds unwanted two weeks ago was handed a ring neck very sick with twisted neck mostly unconscious ,how ever fed through a tube watery raw egg ,vitamin's and antibiotics four times a day ,10 days on it is sitting up any one know how i get it to feed again thank you
I had a syringe that had about about a 1/2'' plunger. I cut off the end with a hot knife so the opening was full sized. Then I would mix up a small amount of Baby Parrot Food and put some into the opening of the syringe. Over this I took a rubber fingertip cut off a glove and put it over the syringe end. I carefully snipped the tip of the glove with scissors and pulled it down onto the syringe body. Then I would force the food to fill the tip of he glove finger. My baby dove learned how to eat from that for several weeks. It was a lot of trouble cleaning everything up including the mess on the dove's beak. He loved it warm. Washing his beak in a warm wet napkin helped. After about a month he just absolutely refused to eat from the syringe and went straight to the bowl of parakeet seeds. You posted a year ago. I hope all is well. My dove is 2-1/2 years old now and enjoys landing on everybody's head. He's a showoff.
Any animal that was raised from birth by humans will think itself is human, and thus have no problem being handled. It's called imprinting, and many wild animals can be imprinted.
+Oasis Spirit that's not what is imprinting in biology/psychology. The animal does not think itself as human, it just trusts an conditionally good specific species members.
