I am amazed that people don't understand you never need to adjust the brake on a Curado DC reel. In fact, it will mess your reel up by changing the factory setting. If you do a You tube search for tackle warehouse and Curado DC overview, the Shimano rep will make this very clear. You also still need to lightly thumb the DC reel when casting.

I dropped my whole rod in the water on accident with a curado dc on it...took me 30 minutes of casting another rod with a treble hook to get it back, then i fished with it for the rest of the day, worked fine. Took the reel apart and gave it a good servcing when i got home that night, and its still working great to this day. I did change the spool bearing though as i already wanted to experiment with the effects that faster aftermarket bearings would have on the dc system. It still works great to this day almost a year later

For ppl watching this. The settingd two and 3 are not more or less breaks. They are break profiles for floro and mono/braid. So yea. Casting floro on 3 will get better distances then 2 because its the right line for the profile.

A quick tip, you should use a 30-50 pound braided line, thinner line like 15 pounds get tangled and it’s easier to get backlash Edit: also you should use the second setting for braided line

I have two metanium DC reel's that stayed at the bottom of the lake for 24 hours when I flipped my kayak. The scuba diver retrieved them the next day. They both still work with no problems

Well it seems Shimano has really hit the mark with this reel, first one I'll consider buying in a long time. I had considered the Chronarch Ci4 but saltwater corrosion issues on the spool and friction ring put me off Thanks for your testing efforts mate.

Its still no Scorpion DC but its alot better than I thought it was now that I know the flouro setting works with the right line and we now know the DC unit is waterproof :)

Dc’s are really only for the sound lmao. Either ways you’re gonna thumb the spool when casting if you have the brakes set low for better casting distance. And if you don’t thumb the spool since you have your brakes all the way up you’re not gonna get as much distance. Have the Scorpion DC and I have it set on 1 and I still find myself thumbing the spool unless if it’s on the higher setting for braking.

I think it's a really simplified DC...just stick with the setting according to the line you're using, regardless of the lure/line size... Btw, why do you always write in caps in the video description ?

The only problem I’ve come by with mine out of the box is the thumb bar doesn’t alway disengage completely. I’ve since been more cautious prior to casting to make sure that is disengaged so it doesn’t mess the reel or up throw a lure. Other than that it will cast a 5/8ths lipless a country mile.

Broke my curado DC..... well no fucking shit if you take it apart and get parts wet that aren’t supposed too. I own one for a year now and it’s the best reel I own. I have a 17lb flouro on a 7ft medium Daiwa rod. Best combination ever

@@popaki9484 So far I like it, they didn't have the 7.4:1 in stock so I got the 8 but soon after I got the SLX DC in 7.4:1 which works good as well, aside from not being able to fish much this year (covid restrictions) I really like them both. I had a couple of strokes a few years back and it screws up my thumb control badly, but with the DC's it's not an issue any longer.

Yeh was going to say... The Calais I rebuilt was under water for a considerable amount of time for the corrosion it grew on it and the DC controller is fine. Plenty of conforming spray on the PCB board internally...

My 2012 Shimano Exscens dc was under water for 3hrs between the rocks at the jetties and had to wait for the tide to go down and retrieve it then to my surprise it was still working fine.

@@THEREELTEST It didn't really feel cheap to me, but I definitely know what you're talking about. It still felt solid, but not like my aluminum framed Tatula HD. I absolutely loved it, it was silky smooth and the casting ability was insane. At some point I'll try to get it fixed, my buddy is a bro and offered to pay for the repair cost so when I get the chance.

I had owned the curado dc reel for about a day and whilst we were out fishing it got caught on the end of my lure I was casting with another rod and the whole reel ended up under water I wasn't sure wether or not it was going to ruin the reel or not, I was more concerned about that long term effects if not dried properly

My DCs have been fully submerged in salt water many times. Still work fine when dried out and cleaned.

@@THEREELTEST This was the Scorpion DC in the salt and its happened 3x. No the DC didnt stop immediately after 1st time it wasn't until the next day. 2nd time about 30 mins later and 3rd about an hour but all 3x i literally got out the water and just carried on fishing didn't take any covers off and dry any thing just cracked on . I have also dunked my Antares DC in fresh water...DC didn't even stop but it was not under the water long.

While i love your videos casting a reel over and over and tracking distance and wind conditions isn't really a good viable test for a reel. Testing them with a big fish under load and over the course of a few weeks or months of continuous use would be a much better "test." Not that i don't like these because they are very enjoyable but seeing how they handle a solid 5 pounder putting on a good fight would sell me a bit better. Just my 2 cents. Great video though! Love the slow mo demonstrations!

Tracking the casting distance and brake performance over a variety of lure weights is the best way to gauge a reels performance. Reeling in a 5lber is something that should be a given for any reel, so thats not news. When you buy a new car are you wondering if it will drive or not? no, you expect it to drive. I agree that fish handling ability is something that should be mentioned but I dont live in an area where there are ponds where fish will bite anything like you see with other channels. I fish big lakes and rivers from the bank like most people do.

I disagree. I was looking to buy a curado but before I did I wanted to see how much he thumbed the spool. I’m looking to buy it for a beginner who knows nothing but zebcos and cheap rods and he misses a lot of fish because he can’t feel them. He has never taken the step to a bait caster because he doesn’t want to learn. Watching this video told me this reel is almost dummy proof and I think it’ll work for him. No other video I’ve watched even comes close to seeing how someone thumbs the spoil like this one does, and it has the added benefit of knowing you can get it wet and it will still function. It helped me out a lot.

Seems like a very favorable dc curado video with lots of sharing to friends hints. I’m thinking they weren’t too happy with u testing modes with wrong style line and dogging the reel bc it wasn’t performing. U also didn’t talk about having to tighten the spool tension knob a bit more in this video?!?

Nah, Shimano hasnt been in contact with me for almost a year now. These 2 things I was genuinely curious of, especially the DC unit getting wet. I wouldnt have done it if I didnt see that video of that kid dropping his Scorpion DC unit. As far as the flouro mode being awesome with flourocarbon? That was surprising. The spool tension was set to exactly how they specified, the side movement just eliminated.

No freshwater. Read the comments, lots of guys have shared how they have dunked their reels under water and I think one guy dropped his Met DC in the lake and didnt get it until the next day and it worked fine. Shimano's engineering isnt just smoke and mirrors like some other companies lol

WHILE CASTING MY US SUPERCASTER 1000 BAITCASTER MY LEFT SIDE PLATE FELL OFF IN THE WATER. I NEVER COULD FIND IT. CAN ANYONE LET ME KNOW WHERE I COULD BUY A US SUPER CASTER 1000 FOR PARTS OR MAYBE FOR THE WHOLE WORKING REEL. THANKS, LARRY.
