I dropped my Remarkable Pen (the expensive one) on the floor and now it's useless. A replacement is way too expensive. Has anyone else done this and found a fix?
I had the exact same issue. I dropped my pencil and it hit the concrete on the tip. I'm glad I found this video because I had no idea how it worked or what to do. Thankfully several people recommended the STAEDTLER 180J and I just ordered one. Thank you for the extremely helpful video!
Hi! I'm an artist (painter new on RU-vid) and Remarkable 2 user and went through 2 marker plus pens with the same frustrations. Here's my 2 cents. When the supporting area for the tip breaks it allows the nib to get floppy because of lack of support. I was pretty desparate to use the pen and tried an experiment. I took out the nib and clipped a tiny amount of the insertion post (with a fingernail clipper - made a pretty clean cut) and reinserted it. This allowed the pen to seat slightly closer to the pen itself and seems to stabilize things well enough for me to use. Now the base of the fat part of the nib keeps it from getting tippy. It's kinda like shaving down the trunk of a tree to the point where the bottom leaves are ever so sligthly higher than the ground. If you go to far, the nib won't seat and the tip won't respond That probably makes no sense but it does to me.
I also agree, went through three pens with this same issue and I told them about it every time. Although not ideal I am happy with my third party except it has a weak magnet for not having any issues and being way cheaper it was worth the investment. Though I prefer OEM
The same happened to me, and I'm already out of warranty. It's definitely a design flaw, especially for such an expensive stylus. Since the holding magnet is on the outside of the cover, the marker falls of very easily, so the marker should be more resistent or have a cap. I got the LAMY stylus and am really happy with it. It has a cap, so I can put it in my pocket and the tip doesn't get damaged. It can also be used as an eraser, but you need to configure the ReMarkable every time there's an update, so I just use the two-fingers tap instead.
Thanks for this video. I had the same issue with two of these pens - first one under warranty but the second is not. Very frustrating. Even more frustrating was the remarkable support. When I told them that I was upset and that this was an obvious design flaw - the answer I got was a canned message saying, "I would like to let you know that we are constantly aiming to improve our software, and your valuable feedback about the marker helps a lot." - This is not a "software" issue. That made me more upset than the marker breaking. There is no real way to fix this and as mentioned, the replacement is about $130. After complaining about this again, they instead send me an ad for their new device. I am a huge fan of the tablet and have referred many people to it, but now I feel like I cannot due to the responses from the company. I doubt I will get the new color tablet now knowing that the company support is awful.
Happened to me TWICE. Ok, they replaced the marker+ for free and rather quickly, but boy it's really really frustrating... REMARKABLE ENGINEERING TEAM, PLS DO SOMETHING!!
@@MakeLifeClick I had exactly the same situation. It got damaged while carrying it in my bag. I bought a second one and the same thing happened again. I gave up and bought Steadler.
The cover is a little over sized which is great to protect the tablet itself however it pushes the pen off its magnetic perch making it prone to falling off and damaging. Mine fell from maybe 20 cm flat on the desk and now writes on the tablet when the pen is 3cm above the tablet surface.
My ReMarable pen broke after just over three years of daily usage. Dropped it a few times but the cone is still intact. Pen looks absolutely fine but the tablet stopped being responsive to my writing. Thought I’d need to replace my tablet but looks like I’d only need to replace the pen which is much cheaper (only $129 CAD😂). Btw you cannot only buy the unit. You have to buy the unit + pen combo which is ridiculous.
I dropped broke my first one the same way. Bought another one and it broke the same way in my backpack. Pretty bummed - I love the tablet, and the stylus works great. Way too fragile for the price.
These styluses are built with Wacom's stylus tech, so any stylus that works with Wacom should also work with this tablet. If anything, it may be worth buying a cheap one when you buy a proper replacement just to have _something_ if the expensive stylus breaks. I just broke my cheap one and am now using the stylus that came with my drawing tablet. I don't think there's any need to break the bank and get the official reMarkable stylus, but shop around for a good quality 3rd party instead
I dropped my pen on day 3 and the eraser broke. I managed to tape it back on and its “usable”. Remarkable must make a huge profit on replacement pens to not have any options other than buying an entire new pen. People drop pens!! $750 and cant use its full functionality 😢
Similar experience. Did not even drop my gen 2 plus marker, still it stopped working out of the blue, new tips and other tricks from support didn't work. No replacement by remarkable. A product design fault with a very high price tag and a miserable warranty policy, very frustrating
I allowed my 5 yo to use it to draw and she applied pressure like a 5 yo would and my marker broke in the same spot as yours. Even though she was extremely careful that area is very weak compared to the quality of the rest of the market. I do agree that it is a design flaw.
Chiming in here as I broke the "channel/dome" on my reMarkable 2 pen with eraser, too. I don't think I even dropped it, as I'm pretty careful. I think pulling it in and out of my backpack dislodged it and it was loose in my bag. I think that did it. Annnnnnnyway, I just bought a Staedtler Noris Jumbo Digital 180J 22 pencil ($42 dollars on Amazon) with eraser and I'm loving it. I've played with all the different pen settings and they all seem to work. In fact, I think the eraser works better than the reMarkable 2 pen. So, I've learned my lesson. I bought a penholder with a flexible strap that I'll attach to the cover.
I can only agree, sadly. I had mine about two weeks before I dropped it as one would drop any pen all the time and it's terminally busted. I wrote two times to remarkable and they ask me to send them the same info. Easier just to buy the Staedtler Noris Jumbo Digital 180J 22 pencil as someone suggested below and consider myself well ripped-off by remarkable who really need to get a handle on this issue and get out in front of it, instead of making customers do the heavy lifting!
Same situation. Broke the plus so ordered the basic one as a replacement and within weeks broke the tip of that one as well. Should really be designed to take a tumble. Still love the device. Will try one of these hacks, not sure I’m down to ordering a 3rd pen after the $208 we are in so far.
We had the exact problem and we had to buy a new one. Using 3rd party pens doesn't provide the same experience. Hope Remarkable team will look at this and fix it in the future.
I have now been through three pens in since I bought my Remarkable in Nov 23 (now Sept 2024) - the cones are always breaking and I even protect my pen with a pen cap I found from an ordinary pen. they have replaced each one foc but now on fourth and about to aslk again. Clearly a major design fault. Not happy.
@@MakeLifeClick Bought it. The writing experience is different compared to the original but I kind of like it. I will get used to it. Pity it is not equipped with magnet for attaching to the reMarkable but I knew it already.
My girlfriend got me a Remarkable 2 pen for my Boox Nova Air C for Christmas because it's fancy, and she knows I like gadgets. Perfect gift I use every day! Unfortunately, I somehow closed it in a door today, and now the cone is broken. It's not completely broken off, but it's enough to be worried about. I came here for answers :(
Identical issue. I broke my stylus and sourcing a replacement was almost impossible. In the end, I managed to get it from Currys in the UK for £113 including postage.
Yes. That is an insane amount of money to pay. In my opinion for something that shouldn’t be prone to such easy damage. The Staedler replacement pen I bought has been doing really well.
I dropped mine yesterday. Doesn’t “connect” right. Acts as an eraser, writes when the pen isn’t touching the page. Something’s majorly screwed with it and looking at remarkable site, it says accidental damage is not covered under warranty. I’m probably going to buy a aftermarket pen to get me over till I can justify spending $130 on a new remarkable one
I dropped mine, only the nib stuffed up, it doesn't appear to have damaged the cone, however it now "works" about 10mm off the page... which obviously isn't an ideal writing experience.
I broke my first remarkable pencil by dropping it, and bought a second one. I don't know how but this one also broke. I thought this wouldn't be covered by the warranty, but I still sent a request to remarkable after watching this video. I didn't get any answer from them, but I received a brand new pencil in my mailbox 😅 So don't hesitate to ask
I just broke the tip of my second marker. Mine are the result of writing pressure. I agree this is a design flaw. I always try to assume positive intent so perhaps there needs to be a pliant trait for it to work well, but I can’t help but feel it’s planned obsolescence.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EXNKmMQFd_Y.html someone else posted about how you can use their warranty to get a new marker pen if it breaks. I am currently in the process. will see how it all works out. many on this video have said they got a replacement, but it needed to be purchased through them (which makes sense)
Yeah. This one was a gift so it want in my name and the warranty process was therefore complicated having to go back through the gift buyer. Yes, it makes sense but also frustrating.
Mine broke and it's only a month old. I opened a support ticket and they gave me the link to request a new pen under the warranty. They said they would reply back to me within 1 - 3 business days. I had to send in a copy of my receipt since I bought it from Best Buy and a picture of the broken tip. I hope they will send me a new one without any issues.
If it is under warranty they will replace it but under than that you are out of luck. I invested in a better version that has a cap - now the new version has the double click erase feature
@@carlsidgwick5854nice! I actually managed to fix the eraser by supergluing just the middle small circle. Hopefully our answers will help others with similar issues :)
