Instead of holding the bridge up with the peice of wood, you should use 1-2 metal rods that can be hidden in the bridge so it seems like it is holding itself up.

What if for the bridge, you design a system with some sort of rope that when you pull, the entire bridge raises to the cealing? So you don't have to duck under It every time you enter the room. It would also look pretty neat
