I built this Kramer 5150 Replica when I was 14/15 in high school, it mostly sits on my wall as a show piece but still sounds epic! It's my favourite Eddie Van Halen guitar because I used to watch "LIVE! Without A Net" religiously growing up.
DRY GUITAR TONE
Kramer 5150 Replica, Seymour Duncan Custom 78, EVH 5150 III to a Palmer PDI-03, XLR out into a Universal Audio Apollo 8 mic preamp.
WET GUITAR TONE
1/4" out of PDI-03 into a BOSS PS6 on DETUNE mode, set at 1 O'clock. Stereo out into two inputs on Universal Audio Apollo 8.
ProTools
Dry panned centre, BOSS PS6 signal panned stereo L/R. Sending to aux track with 2 separate H-Delay's. 398 and 798 MS!

Awesome build! And your play Eddie stuff extremely well! I owned a Baretta I got in '87 when I was thirteen. When I was fourteen, I did something really stupid with the guitar and broke off the pointy tip of the headstock. It was a non-hockey stick headstock, and I wanted the hockey stick one. But I did this stupid thing where I threw my guitar over my shoulder and was supposed to catch it, a common stage move in those days, but I wanted to show my friends I could do this standing on my front lawn. The guitar came loose and hit the lawn headstock first and the tip of it broke off, and I had no more high E string tuner. Well, I found the tuner, and I used crazy glue to fix the headstock. But it never sounded the same. it had lost a serious boatload of tone. So about a week later I went to my local shop and bought a Chandler neck with a hockey stick headstock and had them throw it on. Let me tell you, it sounded WAY better than it did before I broke the old neck. I think the combination of the wood, the larger mass on the headstock, and the rosewood fretboard as opposed to maple made an incredible difference. I don't know what the body was made of. It could have been alder, or poplar. It wasn't the heaviest nor lightest ax I've ever owned. But by god, it was one of the best sounding with that new neck. I wish I still had it. The body was creme color, which was unusual for a Baretta. The hardware was black. Anyhow, that's my Kramer Baretta story from the hair metal days! Keep rocking!

Great looking guitar! I have a box of similar parts, Pariah 1986 pickup, and a neck and body from KNE in the mail. Excited to join the "club"

My understanding, the current state of the Kramer 5150 is pretty bad. I've seen a photo of it. Rough! Severe road rash. Eddie could only get about 3 tours out of one guitar before retirement. Same thing happened to the original Frankenstrat. At some point the headstock on the Kramer snapped between High E and B tuners. Ed or his guitar tech glued it back on but relocated the high E tuner to the bottom side of the head stock. Just looks bad. I could be wrong but i remember reading Ed used it on Judgement Day on the FUCK album. I'd like to see a proper photo shoot with all his most famous guitars. And i loved that amber Ernie Ball he used for 5 years.

where did you see the picture of it?

@@luisyamamoto1884 it's been a while. I wish I could remember. But it definitely had 7 tuners on it. Something else I heard, when he was with Ernie Ball the guys in the shop did a tune up on his 5150. After 3 tours, it needed some things to be put right. While in the shop, they steam cleaned the neck. Allegedly, Ed was spitting needles pissed. He is one that does not like cleaning things or taking off patina. He had 3 tours of grit and grime on it and they cleaned it off.

@@mindeloman there is an interview with Ed done I think around 2015 where he talks about the 5150. The headstock cracked on stage and was fixed just like you said, the pics of it are easy to find on net. As for the cleaning, ed talked about and yes, he was very upset about the cleaning. An interview his son did not long after Ed passed, Ed had given the 5150 to him as a gift a few years earlier.

The headstock looks like a Kramer the 84 which I believe is not %100 the same as Eddie Kramer 5150. Very close but not the same.

Thanks Jeremy. I feel like an oncompetant moron: you built that at 14/15! I would actually buy a guitar from you, if it were like that.

And I spelled incompetent wrong! I was just kidding anyway- I love that guitar. Great work; particularly for a teenager!
