Yeah, that RS deluxe is garbage... It's really the lowest end, brand name shock on the market. I know he's trying to build on a budget and I get that, I did the same but the Marzocchi Bomber CR coil is crazy cheap and a huge step up from that entry level RockShox shock

Love the build and the Channel! Pro mechanic advice: get a correct size dropper as soon as you can. Those require that they reach past the seat tube-top tube intersection. You risk cracking the frame at that junction because the top of the seat tube is supporting all your weight. Again, love the channel and have been a subscriber for awhile, keep it up!

The upper head set cup was pressed in crooket as hell🫣🫣also the DUB Bottom bracket wasn't really spinning as free as it should, I think the spacers were not correct, also I would double check that chainline, I may be wrong but on the video it looks weird. Also please press any bearing by the outer bearing race, as far as I could see in the video you did every bearing with the wrong adapter and just gave it some ugga dugga on the inner race. That's how you wear our/ destroy new bearings extra fast.

@rift123

@@EvansMTBSaga Thats one way to ovalise the head tube. Just make sure if its going in wonky, you straighten it before pressing it in further with anything. Even if its a gentle hammer tap to make it line up, will make it go in much more easily and save you any issues with damaging head tube. Also its worth noting that using the tapered pieces of metal that sit on the inner race of the bearing, will have no support apart from the inside bearings itself and can sometimes damage the internals. I saw the BB seemed quite tight, spinning once fitted, and that could be because of that. In cases like this, if you don't have the proper fitting metal "guide", its better to use the bigger flat opposite side of the guide and press the bearing in by the outer edge of the cup, whether thats BB or HS, NOT the bearing itself. If you have to press the bearing in with the race, use the outer race as that doesn't press on the bearings themselves interally. All radial bearings, compared to angular contact bearings, have nothing but a fragile internal if you push from the inside. As a professional mechanic over the last ten years with many workshops around the UK it really is impressive what you have learnt and get up to on these videos. I really enjoy watching your content, especially the high low bikes and the fix the public bike.

Great build vid! It's fun watching somebody put together their dream bike. For CushCore, it looks like you did the install dry. I did my first install a couple weeks ago and found the most important thing for me was to use some sort of lubricant on the tire. I used a little spray of the general purpose cleaner I use for cleaning my bike, that was just enough to make things go from almost impossible to no problem at all.

Love the vid and bike choice, altho i’d recommend getting a beefier shock, as this one is made for light trail riding and xc, and about that headset cup, i think your main issue was that you didn’t press it in straight
@mtbboy1993
@mtbboy1993 Год назад
To me it looks like bad head tube tolerances resulting in the cup being pressed in further on one side due to head tube being closer to spec on that side and too tight on the other side. Sadly issues with head tube and bottom bracket tolerances are common. It's unacceptable. one of the reason I went for Nicolai/Geometron is I know how they make their bikes and they use proper manufacturing process, and have a great reputation. I am happy with my G1, the head set install went smoothly. I've not heard any complaints about the head tubes or BB shells. But Commencal has a bad rep with DHH frames snapping, the Meta frames having issues with bearings getting pushed out, if left too long that will damage the bearing bores and make the linkages rub. Also the internal cable routing is not for me. But it would be interesting to see an expert use a roundness gauge on the head tube bores. Check out Hambini on RU-vid, he does that.

9:32 If the head tube was to spec and head set cup was the correct size it would have went in smoothly and evenly, it did on my Geometron G1. You need to make sure the size is correct, and put it on evenly, gently press it, if it goes in skewed it's a sign of bad tolerances in the head tube. Chris King has great tolerances, so it will be a struggle to get it into a head tube that is oversized, ovalized, and generally just bad tolerances. If the frame head tube is undersized, it might be possible to ream and face it to get it to spec, but if it's oversized then you are screwed.

@@EvansMTBSaga Headset bearing as said before. Tightening the rotor bolts one by one, and not going in a criss cross pattern, applying more torque with each round. And one thing that would be a good practise, is keeping the motion of the torque wrench even, What I mean by that, is when you wrench, and feel that you are somewhat close to the expected value, dont slow down the movement. This leads to overtightening (and possibly stripping the bolt), as there is enough force to move the bolt, but not enough to make the wrench click. Just my 2 cents :)

You already had nice stuff in your possession and then sold them at a loss. Seems better to keep them and use them on a dream build rather than lose money. If you're gonna ride this new bike hard, some of those budget parts are going to fail and you're gonna have to replace them, which in an of itself might be a waste of money. Seems like it would have been better to wait and get durable components, as opposed to getting the build done with "cheaper" less durable components. (You still have a bike that works so its not like you can't ride. HAHA) Good luck with channel.

Bro, throw that Pittsburgh torque wrench in the trash where it belongs! I had one once and it was complete trash. I stored and used it correctly, but it quickly lost calibration and cost me a blown engine due to improper torque. Pittsburgh wouldn't do anything about the nuked engine they caused, but they had no problems replacing the $30 (at the time) torque wrench! Torquing things down to a precise specification is super important - hence why you're even using a torque wrench in the first place. The slip of that bearing press gave me the creeps......perfect way to ruin a brand new frame even before you've ever riding the bike. Well done on getting the bike rideable even with an "inferior" shock. 👌

Great episode. I love watching bikes being out together. I had a similar issue with my Chris King headset on my Geometron G16. My mechanic put the headset cups in the freezer for a few hours, quick removal, and they went in easily. I guess the freezing made a fraction of a mm difference, but it was enough.

@@EvansMTBSaga If the head tube was made to spec it would not be needed, shame Commencal did messed this up too. I will not be getting a Commencal bike nor recommend it to anyone, I've seen issues before but this is just another addition to the list. This is unacceptable. Consumer should not have to repair, if I were you I would have returned it, asked for a refund, I think this frame is a mistake.

Thinking about building a new bike possibly Marin El roy want to develop my bike buid skills, simply to see what's it like. Also I am digging the new Enduro build video.

Looking good in the new Fly Gear. That helmet is badass. I would like to say again that I think you made the right choice with the frame finish, it looks great. Next time you struggle getting bearings in, put them in the freezer for 1hr before install. I think I am incapable of getting my bars straight. Every time I ride I look down and think it’s off by a hair. The bike looks fantastic all assembled. I’m digging the blue grips and red levers and it’s a little lighter than you thought it would be. 170/160… nice! Oh and the Christmas lights look good! See ya at 5

I know it's an old video, but your issue with the headset top cup was you were going in crooked. You can see on the video it's not straight. I'm a mechanic by profession and install all types of press fit bearings. When you get it started, take a hammer and lightly tap the high side to level, than press in. Love your videos and just subscribed.

Ya loctite for say the customers at literally never inspect anything on their bike, but you just ruined the bearing by hammering on them. Press them in with a tool, but you were off on the start and pulled it in crooked the whole time heat up the tube in the sun and freeze the bearings next time.
