Aww thank you, much appreciated. Hope you like my stuff, it’s a bit eclectic. I have a playlist also of music videos I have made and directed too if you are interested :)
That’s really kind of you. I think I was just suffering from imposter syndrome during the build. Lots of great makers in the collaboration, and I just wanted to live up to them .
@@eye_made_this Oh i know: i'm going through the playlist right now! It's awesome seeing how many different approaches and tecniques you all brought to the table!
I absolutely love this bot boy. The sculpt is so fun, so chunky. The shoe polish weathering is unique for sure and I do think it adds to the overall appearance. Good job
Honestly this has been my favorite on the entire playlist so far. A lot of them seem thin, fragile, and unrealistic. But yours has the weight and chunkiness I'd expect from a mech. I also love your unique white/orange color scheme. So many people went for dark, grey, muddy bots so it was really refreshing to see something on the other end of the spectrum. Fantastic job!
24:30 the final build looks like it belongs to the Tau from the 40k universe! Awesome colour scheme and the shoe polish weathering was an interesting addition, will be trialing this myself!
Who has shoe polish?… this guy *points at self* bought a load when weathering a bunch of suits of armour I made from EVA foam hah . Glad you enjoyed the video dude. Watching yours and everyone else’s tomorrow when I have a free day , can’t wait!
I really like this guy, AND you gave him articulation. Honestly gives me action figure vibes and I could totally see a line up of other mechs with different weapons, shapes, and colors. Like a high quality collectible action figure or gundam.
What an awesome looking Bot! Incredibly sculpted, I love all the battle damage, and genius use of Prince Adam's shoulders. Pour one out for the action figures that made the ultimate sacrifice for this guy!🙌
What a fabulous bot! With the white and orange colour scheme and (shoe polish!) weathering it looks a bit like Johnny 5 reborn in the District 9 universe. Charming, weighty, believable.
Found this through Mr. Boylei Hobby Time - A-FREAKING-MAZING!!! This build series has kept my attention all day! Thank you Bill Make Stuff, and to each and every contributor for sharing your creativity, process, humor, insight, and did I mention entertaining? Yes, entertaining! I hope y'all will make this something of a regular/annual sort of group enterprise. Very clever concept, extremely diverse results, however - most of all - and Ms. Whittle Goblin said it best - I found a whole new bunch of channels to subscribe, like, and continue watching. Keep up the GREAT WORK!
Man, this is awesome. Your scultping skills are insane. And I love the paint job.The oil leaking out of the bullet holes is a great touch. An instant subscribe after seeing this. Nice one dude.
Love this. People forgot how to carve and sculpt. Poorhammer peep were complaining about figure pricing and needed 3d printers, when they could just make their own out of anything including clay or wood. Auto companies were doing this for prototypes for 70 years.......
He sculpts the most amazing detailed robot, that is FULLY articulated, while recovering from surgery, and says it's "alright". 😂 You're amazing! New sub from me and my personal youtube also!
Love your construction, especially the articulation points! Impressive. The paint job finished it perfectly. Nothing wrong with it at all. It's beautiful.
It looks amazing. And the shoe polish works. As to paint, whatever you used looks great. I'd suggest some decent acrylic miniature gaming paints. Vallejo, Army Painter, or Citadel are decent. The Vallejo and Army Painter are generally more affordable.
"Hi, I'm new to your channel thanks to Bill. Love what you do, and thought your bot was amazing. Looking forward to watching some back-history! Cheers ✌️" And now some back story. I was watching the playlist when I posted this comment. Unbeknownst to me, I posted the comment on Dan Does...es channel so I had to cut and paste it over from there. That felt a bit like a cheap comment so I thought id better explain. Now I feel like a complete plonker for bringing attention to the whole thing. I've got to go through all the comments on all the videos now to see if I've done it elsewhere. Bloody hell! PS, the paint job looks great. The bot has a Moebius look about it. Nice
Every big project of mine that I've ever made has SOME blood in/on it, to the point that if I cut myself on a different project, I NEED to add that little offering to the Machine God on any unblooded models. Yes, I'm weird. But isn't that what this hobby is about?
This is incredible!!! Your techniques are very entertaining to watch regardless if they went how you hoped. The colour scheme is perfect btw! Unashamedly my favourite of the collab :) keep up the great work 🧡🤍🤖
You're being overly critical about this, I think it's lovely. The colors are great(orange is my favorite) and it's style is nostalgic and reminds me of the PS2 Ratchet & Clank games.
While i can understand while you'd not be sold on the bot. what with you making him while you were mid recovery, probably seeing all the times you 'could have done more if only you weren't exhausted' but like ... The compromises and solutions you found to get this project done are all wonderful shows of your skill and creativity! So where you see things falling short, we see the excellence youve honed through the years! Amazing bot, amazing sculpting, amazing painting! It A r t i c u l a t e s???? All around kickass!
good paints? Game Color Vallejo, scale 75. Duncan's 2 Thin Coats. i dont know what is available locally for you at a good price. .. avoid Testors. almost any modeling paint should help a lot
If you can get Pro Acryl where you're at.. that's a solid paint to use and it's affordable. I've got their entire range and they're hands down some of the best hobby paints in the business... now if you're just using them casually for random stuff, regular old craft paints from the art store will work just fine. Anyway, hope that helps! Love the sculpting! You're really good at it my friend! I was really impressed with the whole build. Edit: Bro, you did an amazing job! Don't even stress about it. While I did have to close my eyes and not watch when you smothered it with shoe polish.. it actually turned out pretty well.
Looking at his design, you've got a bot that is not designed to move from place to place quickly. If he had two hands, I would put him into a flexible factory role where he's meant to sit at a station and build things for months at a time. Maybe that's what he was designed for, but those hooks on his slow-moving body say that someone meant for him to go somewhere and occasionally pull things towards him. I imagine him working quietly on the side of some low-traffic cargo dock, ready to pull ships into their berth if needed. 98% of his CPU time has been handed over to a self-coded database keeping track of the lives of the local sea-birds. He has designations for each of them and can accurately identify non-distinctive members of the flock at 45 meters, a whole 3 meters beyond where his model is advertised as having fine-grained detail discernment in their optical system. The only being who has any idea of his hidden depths is the local cleaning drone, who wipes off the occasional bird dropping and reports the ongoing chassis damage the dockbot receives from local ne'er-do-wells. The dockbot occasionally attempts to push "database updates" to the little drone, who not only isn't running the database, but lacks the extra processing power to do its job while running the dockbots baroque coding. Nevertheless, the drone's builtin security software does a quick dissection of the rogue software update and the drone dutifully updates its own overall environmental model with the comings and goings of the birds.
Holy crap, you have put more thought into this bot than I have. I know who I’m going to when I need some lore for my creations haha. Thanks dude , loved this!
The floating head of a Englishman insisted that I watch this video and I'm glad I did. Fun build, the white and orange remind me of My 40k Tau. I subbed and can't wait to see more of your videos!
Alright? It's bloody phenomenal mate. I'm utterly useless at sculpting so to my eyes it's brilliant. Edit: Oh, I love the orange and white, you might not rate your painting skills but again, it looks great to me.
We are all our own worst critic aren't we? That is flipping awesome looking! lovely design and I think the colours are spot on.. You don't know how to paint? Could have fooled me! Boot Polish? Genius!
I'm really glad you warmed to it, because i think it's exceptional! This is my first time seeing any of your videos, & i hit subscribe about 50 seconds in! I think the paint is great, i think white was a good choice. Old, beat to death robots were once shiny fancy showroom floor new items, and i think it makes the aging / weathering stand out three times as much. I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
This is amazing. I didn't know I needed this channel and this video so much. I have considered using sculpting for my own stuff before, but never thought it could look good in the end Until I saw this video. Wow. Thank you for the video (and Bill for getting me to it)
I know I'm really late to this one, but I think it's a glorious robot. I really love the whole gorilla-like vibe, it gives it a real feeling of slow, lumbering power and strength.
This is awesome man I know we’re all our own worst critics, god knows I never think any my stuff is good even when they win contests. Just know this is amazing work man and the fact it’s 99% hand sculpted is amazing to me.
dude! this looks amazing! i love the design, but i think your paint job is actually really nice. i probably would have gone with a bit less black, gray instead of white, with some yellow accents instead of orange. or maybe flip the white and orange bits so that it's mostly orange and white is the accent color. either way, it totally works and you should be happy with it! this is the first video of yours i've watched and you've earned a subscriber!
I think I've watched almost all of the bot bash videos and your creation is my favorite so far. You also followed the die rolls pretty well, which not all people seem to do. Even though you aren't sure about the color scheme, I like the white and red combo. I gives it that cassette futurism kinda wibe, as you said yourself.
People who think they're not good painters need to stick together! Having said that; don't use paint for metal edges showing through and just use the side of a pencil tip and colour away. Works amazing and helped me not dread painting so much.
I think you're a little hard on yourself. It looks stunning! You are such a talented sculpter and have an awesome imagination. As for the colors you chose, I feel they suit the ascetic really well.
I think this is an absolutely fantastic bot build! The colors are amazing and the different sizes for the arms and legs really make it eye catching from every angle! Great work and thanks for the amazing video!
Not gonna lie it was going though my mind. I love the squatty nature of those old toys and would love to make a smaller 4 inch version in the future. I’ve actually been making a tmnt style figure on this channel , look for ‘ let’s make an action figure’ part two of that will be coming soon…ish .
I really like it, the color is very NASA to me Also basically what you did with the shoe polish could be achieved with a black wash, I like to make an oil wash (diluted black or other colors in white spirits) because you can use a sponge with white spirits to remove where it is too thick
Turned out great in my opinion. Just the right amount of detailing on the sculpt. Maybe it's the weathering really -- a white metal like that on a huge bot should show a lot of fine detail in the weathering, and the way you weathered it might make it come off as smaller.
Some decals could easily give it more character and life. Also a base goes a long way to telling a story. It's the main difference between a toy and a miniature imo
G-Day mate, Awesome build, paints I use only a few brands, there is a shit load, here what I use Ammo Mig, Vallejo, Speed Paint from Army painter and finally Citadel paint, washes, technical, Dry brush paints, and Contrast paints, textures. Also, I use Windsor and Newton oil paints. And also A.K. Interactive, paints, weathering oil. I have been modelling, since I was ten years old, now in my 60's now, you get to own, just lots of paint, tubs and tubs, but I have learned over the years, if you use the primary colours, you can't go wrong. Your painting is up to you, Dig, as its what you do is the end game, painting takes time, enjoy it and it will come to you, don't bash yourself up with it, Awesome work, and a great Craftsman you are. Cheers From DownUnder Bob.
Super curious what you do in regards to baking the sculpy and layering over bits you've already baked. I've always been scared of doing this. For example, when you do the core of the calves before the layer you carve into, did you bake the core, layer up, sculpt, and bake again? Did you do the hip axle and thigh bars so they could be removed and baked separately or did you just backe it in place with the calves you'd done? Hopefully my question is clear. Beautiful work!!!
Hello. Thanks for your questions, so yeah I baked the legs/ body first for half an hour . Then did a thin layer to carve into etc and that I only baked for 15 mins. As you can see I burnt my legs because I left them In a bit too long… whoops. If you do bigger objects, like I did with the tin foil in the middle. Try and add a few air holes as it possibly crack a bit in the oven . It’s nothing you can’t fix with a bit of epoxy if needed though. I’ve never had a sculpt fail in me for multiply bakes, only if i forget it’s in the oven and leave it in way longer than needed. As for the waste, yeah I baked that separately and attached it to the waist after it was baked. Thanks for watching and I hope I answered your questions haha. Any more, just me a shout!
@@eye_made_this Thanks so much for that info and the reply!!! Very helpful, I've been wondering this a while and I'll definitely be using the knowledge at some point ❤ Great video. The sculpt is super cool and your painting works really well
