No such restrictions in the US. Those professional builders and repairers have been busier than ever during Covid as people realize just how much needs doing to make their homes the way they should be.

I'm a 20 year journeyman mechanic. I've rebuilt stuff out in the field. I've fixed stuff on the side of the road. I've rebuilt a transmission in my kitchen and used the dishwasher as a parts washer, but when it comes to household repairs aside from electrical? I have no interest in getting involved.

Oh, my this is why I don''t work on my scooter these days. While it was a valuable skill to learn how to do basic maintenance--changing the oil, replacing air filter etc.--the tendency for "simple jobs" like changing a low beam headlight to become nine assholes of annoying means I have everything done during the fall at the garage right before I put the bike away.

My DIY skills only exist because of the many projects I’ve started with gross overconfidence, only to have to buy a whole new set of tools and learn a whole new set of skills in in order to complete the job to my satisfaction. Plus, there were many years in the past where I simply couldn’t afford to pay someone to do things for me.
