That was definitely the right thing to do, better safe than sorry. From Matties point of view there was a good chance something was wrong, which if there was the decision to call the police could have literally been life saving. We all need a friend like this in our lives who looks out for us

I watch a lot of those caving and hiking stories of people who are known to disappear for days at a time and so it took people way longer to realize they were in trouble. And a TON of them died because of it. Even if people know you’re leaving long term, always try to have a contact or plan. And Mattie did what any good home contact would do

Honestly I've heard so many "oh they probably changed there mind I'll hear from them later" stories that end with the worst case scenario so I think it's best to be a little paranoid

I love that you cared about him so much you called the police because he wasn't where he said he would be. Honestly it's great to have someone in your life that cares that much. As long as they don't use it to guilt trip you for the rest of the time you lived together.

Everyone needs friends like this. Crazy stuff happens everywhere and that combined with both of you being public figures you can't be too careful.

Almost did this to my last college roommate. She was a freshman, 19, had literally done one tour of campus and didn’t know the town at all. She goes out her second day there, around 10am with this person that she met at orientation and a group of people she barely knows. Im a big sister, I’m also like 3 years older than this girl and had met her parents who were very nice. By 10pm I was getting nervous. By 2am I was googling how long I should wait before filing a missing persons report. By 4am I was staring at my phone trying to figure out what to tell the cops so they could even begin finding her. Finally decided just to go to bed and call report it in the morning if she still wasn’t back. Girl comes in at 7am perfectly fine and I’m just so relieved that she’s not dead in a ditch and wasn’t dare raped or something that I didn’t even lecture her. (Fyi if u have legitimate concerns that someone is missing u can file immediately, the 48hrs thing is bullshit)
