They're. How u think of them? It's literally the lazy job. You work hard for 6 months, and then another 6 months of inactivity. It's not hard labor 😅. Dont always think 'lazy' is negative word. I mean yeah, but lazy also means you're smart!
@@TRIOAntimations well in fairness, even animators joke about “doing things lazily” but truthfully it’s just the fact that the scene is impossible with the deadline, so figure out a solution. It’s more time based than effort based, so lazy is definitely wrong
I'm not saying this to "diss" on the animators, of course there is lot of work to do, but by that time Disney was using some computer aided stuff. That scene from the wildebeests in Lion King for instance used computers to impose a behaviour to the crowd. I suspect similar stuff was used in that scene in Mulan, probably to help animating the avalanche as well
I'm happy to see nearly every single comment calling out this video's bullshit. It's not "laziness" to work within your limitations. It's a creative workaround that still managed to be incredibly executed and effective.
it's to increase engagement because everyone in comments is going to feel the need to correct the mistake so they can feel so much smarter than OP. and you're falling for it lmao
@@altaccount9226 you can’t even spell correctly, how old are you lmfao? „And I guess“… yeah. Makes much sense for a kindergartener. Who even told you these words you’re clearly too young for?
Dude that’s cleverness not laziness. They only did the other hour of the movie. And honestly the cutaways to things make the scene more dramatic, focusing in on the torches and sharp dangerous weapons making things more intense. They just smart.
Id like if you were to attempt to animate a entire village marching up a mountain, with swords and torches, having them interact with the environment as they walk frame by frame
your right, but we're all watching yt shorts. Yapping or not we already wasted and will be wasting so much time. Its not gonna get better unless we stop
To save everyone a minute of there life cause he yaps about nothing for 40 seconds, They would cut to hands and shadows instead of aniamating a mob in beauty and the beast
@@adamgreen2525 I’m with you on that one, but don’t you a good software with powerful tools to let you utilize your art and techniques and allow more maneuver and flexibility? All of these softwares are good in their own way, mind you.
People say I do the same but I don't think so tbh. Everything I say has purpose so that's why sometimes I write long paragraphs but it's only long because everything flows into the next and is important to read everything I write or say, because I don't drag on sentences on purpose, actually in school I was told writing alot is good thing so it gets more information out fast so you don't forget it. Otherwise why have 1,500 word essays if they're useless? 🤔
@@KazShiroI mean in school isn't 1,500 word papers common? Why would teachers tell you to write that much if it was useless too? But also they don't treach cursive anymore like in my mon's time (she was born in 1983, I was born in 2006). Now gen alpha (my little brother (12), my little sister (8), & my baby sister (1) are gen alpha) isn't learning they're multiplication tables, but they have calculators on there phones for that so they don't need to learn it, just like I didn't need to learn cursive because in my school they're was typing classes on computers and you could change the font to anything you wanted. So that means that education is always changing so you shouldn't hate gen alpha for that reasons at all and blame adults instead for changing how the world works. It's not gen z or gen alpha changing things but it's the adults who invent new technology but they don't get hate like gen z or alpha does even though it wasn't our fault this happened. You should be blaming Elon Musk for changing society to be like this or blame any adult tbh who changes society for new technology like this because they wanted this. But adults are hypocritical because they blame kids for embracing new technology but why not? You did too, you watched tv as a kid while you're parents read books and wanted you outside. It's the same things you millennials blame kids being on phones that you use all the times, you're all hypocrites and want reasons to hate kids so you could use all the technologies for yourselves. Kids gen z and gen alpha will use technology wheater you adults (millennials) like it or not. I'm gen z adult and I won't continue you're generational trauma on the youths. I was abused as a child by you adults, then you wonder why I don't like you. I won't have kids and they'res nothing you can do about it, I won't continue the abuse on kids because I won't have kids so you can continue to abuse them.
Describing them as lazy isn't really accurate. It's more that they are putting resources elsewhere and they are also most likely being overworked because it's Disney, so shortcuts for the animators are needed for a strict deadline. I know you complimented them but you also contradicted yourself right afterwards but reinforcing the false idea that they are lazy.
As a 2d animator that learned tradtionally, I can definitely relate to hating animating mobs. I did a scene once in art the academy that had 5 people in it all talking and jumping around in a bar scene, and that took ages to get right. It wasn't so much drawing the frames, but making sure it was all timed correctly. I was on that scene for nearly 9 weeks
That's not called being lazy, that's called being efficient. That's called knowing the limits of the budget and the workforces stamina in the long run of 3-5 years that a feature hand drawn animation move takes to complete and do whatever it takes to actually be able to cross the finish line, without burning out your exhausted animators. I know you say this as a joke, but sadly, the litteracy of lots of viewers nowadays is pretty abysmal, and I can bet a lot of them will take your joke of "animators are lazy" at face value. So when the Animation guild will inevitably go on strike later this year because they're by very far the hardest working industry in the entire show-business field, and have been at the receiving end of years if not decades of brutal overexploitative treatment and massive disrespect from all the big studios, many of your viewers will just think "oh, they're lazy entitled people who want to get paid with less work", and not support them during their strike. And in a few years, people will be surprised to see that animation movies have simply ceased to exist, because all the animators have either changed career due to having been laid off because of projects cancellations (all the ongoing projects Netflix killed after losing subscriptions), studios restructures (Dreamworks recently laid off 90% of its animators in their main California studio to focus only on the Vancouver one... Because the ones in Cali dared to unionize !), or thanks to AI. Or have died of exhaustion (cue the Vulture article about the inhumane working conditions on Across the Spiderverse at Sony)... All to be replaced by soulless AI replacement with lifeless eyes and 6 to 8 fingers per hand. Welcome to the future, friends. So please. Have some respect !
In the years I have been studying 3D modelling, we students developed a phrase "si no se ve, no se modela" (if it can't be seen, don't model it) It saves time, gives you leeway, helps optimize games... it also applies to almost every other aspect of art. The idea is to trick the viewer/player into thinking everything is complete, even if isn't. No need for more. That's why sometimes rigs will be broken for a scene, or an extra light added where there should not be one. I'd say it's 5% laziness, 95% just common sense. Anyways, have a nice day reader :D
@@elvenette 3’s means a picture lasts for 3 frames. There is 24 frames in a second in animation, on 3’s it means every image lasts for 3 frames, so there is only 8 images per second. A quick calculation you can do if you want to make it easier is this: If it says 3s, then do 24 divided by the given number “3”, and it gives you your frames per second. 24/1=24fps, 24/2=12fps, 24/3=8fps, etc Disney usually animates on 1’s, (or at least they used to back when they made 2D movies). Though 1s isn’t really necessary for any technical reason other than looking smooth, unless something fast is happening on the screen. 1s can also feel floaty and weightless unintentionally since it’s constantly moving, though for general audiences, just looking smooth sometimes gives off a quality feel even for scenes where it’s just lots of inbetweens another limitation is that (due to doubling or tripling the needed frames) it requires drawings to be less detailed in order to get the work finished on time. Not necessarily bad, it’s just the trade off. 2s usually looks just as good, and feels more sharp and intentional in movements, and is better for “weighty” scenes. This pretty much is true onwards that the picture and weight quality kind of improves as you use less frames, but of course there’s a point where it can look choppy, so you need to find a balance
@@elvenette They mean that every frame you draw, you copy and paste that same frame. So, animating on 2s means that each frame stays on screen for 2 frames. Then animating on 3s means each frames stays for 3 frames.
