I Can't Do This Anymore... I confronted self-doubt but found moments of profound connection to the world around me. Despite the trials, like struggling with gravel roads and the pressures of riding with more experienced adventurers, I cherished the scenic routes and the growth as a rider. This journey pushed my limits and allowed me to explore beautiful landscapes, even as I grappled with the balance between enjoying the ride and pushing my skills.

I truly hope you enjoyed this video! I truly had the most amazing time! The highs were great, but the lows were parasitic. As a solo traveler, I genuinely had to remind myself that riding with a bigger group WAS part of the adventure! Do you prefer solo riding or riding with a group?
@pcthayer

I prefer solo or maybe with one other friend, since I hate the feeling holding up the group if I am going too slow.

I enjoyed your video. I understand that feeling of going out of your comfort zone as a rider. I prefer riding solo more than in groups. I like to stop a lot and take pics and other times just keep riding until I need gas, but not worrying about slowing down others. Just do my own thing. I do some group rides though also.

I know the Giant Redwoods well. The area around Prarie Creek is my church. I've been there on both my bikes, 1980 Goldwing and 2007 FJR1300. No video or pictures do any of the sights any justice. I try to visit as much as I can and apologize to the Elk at Prarie Creek. They found me a few years ago when I tried a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Glad nature found me before a park ranger, so I didn't get a ticket for illegal camping. Just a dirty look from a giant Elk. I've totally changed my perspective on life since then. Every time I want to give up, I push through and always feel better when it's all accomplished. Love your videos. Please ride your own pace no matter what.

One of your best videos. Thank you for giving us a look at some beautiful country. You did great knowing your limits. This reminded me of some folks learning to drive just a car where they worry about holding someone up behind them. When you get to the point you let go of that and settle on allowing yourself to take as long as it takes you’ll begin to relax and enjoy what your doing. Your confidence will grow as you take another challenge in stride and discover you’ve got this. Always wished I could stand in the presence of one of those giants.

Another Her.Two.Wheels clip that does not disappoints. I liked the alternation between voiceover and talk while riding, the intro set a nice tone to the video, there is diversity in roads and views, a flex for any brand putting big content creators on their bikes, shows confidence, especially if they are honest while riding. Highway queen on twisties and gravel riding these Honda goats... Nice change of pace. Good video!

Loved watching your adventures, and was very excited to get your feedback on the Transalpine. We ride dual sports right now sine we live at the base of the Blue Mountains in the inland PNW. But we have considered ADV bikes and that was one I looked at since the weight placement tends to be a bit lower. I’ve been concerned about my personal ability to handle heavier bikes. And I’ve been riding half gravel, half paved the last 4-5 years and I still pucker on gravel. When it’s just you and a friend/spouse it’s a lot easier to just go at your own pace, a group ride would be tough. Give yourself all the grace!!

So awesome as always, and so exciting to see you in my hometown of Sacto. The delta River hwy 160 you were on is one of my favorite go to routes. Mt. I have ridden on dirt, sand, gravel, mud and asphalt. At 62 years old now its me and my 08 Streetglide. As a POC for Broken Chains JC in SW VA I love riding in groups either leading or following. We have been all over VA and NC, TENN, Kentucky. I also enjoy riding solo where its just me a Jesus and the sound of my bike. I rarely have music playing... When I was younger this kind of riding would have thrilled me. I had a Suzuki TS185, a Honda XL500 and lastly the YZ490 then I gave up the non-paved life for the open road on a KZ750E then the 2003 Heritage and now my SG.... might never make it out west so thanks for the video....

Jess, you are doing a great job. Yes, you may be out of your comfort zone but that is what makes us grow. It looks like you are not the only one out of their comfort zone. Some of the others may just not be willing to admit it. You are not the one crashing. Keep practicing and learning. If you want some practice on a little gravel, bring your Himalayan to Jesse Owens State Park in southeast Ohio. I would be happy to ride with you here. It also is a GREAT, FREE place to camp. I agree with you about tar snakes. One can never predict whether they are melted or not. I guess the temp tells a bit. Remember, RIDE YOUR RIDE. That gives you the best opportunity to arrive home safely.

I always ride solo, no destination, no maps, just pick a road and go. It's really hard to find people to ride with that match your pace, It's either they ride to fast, to slow or stop when you don't. Just get out and enjoy the wind.

Jess don't take this the wrong way, and i'm pretty sure you won't, as you mentioned similar or close stuff throughout the video of what I want to say to you as a reminder/peptalk or whatever. (Even though i'm 2 years into riding, 1 year on my own bike so still new-ish and haven't road on roads like these for example or a long stretch of gravel. So way less experience then you obviously. And I don't want to be out of place so if I am in a way I am truly sorry!. But confidence, having fun and a positive mindset combined with eagerness to learn and improve does help me a lot!). As you mentioned others maybe are more experienced and you trying to keep up shouldn't be a thing, you are riding your own ride. I think you did great, even with all the thoughts and doubts going on. And doing the same stuff, riding the same roads, won't necessarily make you a better rider. It's scouting out new roads, riding different roads, encounter challenges, bumps and sometimes you fall and need to get up. It may be scary to get out your comfort zone, and as you mentioned you grew as a rider and a person. With a new appreciation for nature and unknown roads. You succeeded, found your demons, doubted, but pushed on and faced them! Which reflects on how great this trip was for you and the others. It is the only way to grow. 💪🏼 On that end. what an absolute GREAT video! Amazing sceneries! Holy cow! 💯 (No the cows weren't holy in this video I guess but they sure live in a great place!). 😆 It's really pretty out there! Also curious to see the beer fridge! Seems like a fun idea to do for me as well!

I have such a different riding experience. I started out riding with a partner, then after a year, I got involved with clubs and ride mostly in packs. I’m only just now, after 11 years, starting to experience and enjoying solo rides. I’m finding that while I had confidence in my riding all along, I did have a bit of anxiety over handling myself alone. If anything might go sideways or strangers gave me trouble, I always had backup! Riding alone is building my confidence in ways I never considered. I make all the choices and hold all the responsibility!

Great video and I love your channel, my 2 cents is that you don't have an ability issue. You can ride anything. I think you get too deep in your own head and that causes confidence issues. You are a great rider. Who cares if you have to slow down on gravel roads, better slow and safe then fast and in a pile on the side of the road. You got this. A lot of us watching are jealous that we don't get to see as much of the country as you do. Have a great day and I am looking forward to the next video.

A great, honest and open critique of your experience. I too suffer from 'Imposter syndrome' and have gravel, hairpin (switch backs) anxiety. But you did it girl! At YOUR pace and I think that's the key....ride your own ride. I try to ride with new people, both on and off road, often. My only ask of them is that they PLEASE do not make me have to pull out my trauma kit. I will gladly stop and wait for someone to catch up. That's a lot less drama than digging bikes out of the woods or having to deal with broken bones. Waiting on someone, to catch up, is not a big deal. Get that Himmy out and get some more practice in this season on gravel. Loved this video btw.

The trick with gravel riding is never go above your comfort level. Comfort levels will go up as you ride on it more. You can’t push yourself to a comfort level on gravel. You did great!! One trick I tell people that are riding with more rambunctious riders is bring a camera. It gives you a reason to be slower because you’re looking for images 😁. 🙏🏻🙏🏻

A few months from now, you will be reflecting on this trip and the parts you hated or didn't care for and decide (in retrospect) that the bad was not really that bad. And you may even consider doing it again. It's not something everyone does, and to be able to do that is what sets you or anyone else apart from the rest. You will be telling someone about your experiences and start to compare to other's experiences and want to do it again. Thanks for sharing, the views were gorgeous, and Northern California has some of the best views that can be found in our beautiful country.

That section you were on where you fell behind and dropped the bike is my local riding area. I recognized the road, been down it several times. It may be relatively easy for experienced off-road riders, but I remember my first time riding it on a Tenere 700 and even something like that can feel sketchy on an ADV bike. You did great!

So cool! I never actually dropped the bike though 😅 That was footage of others on the ride. Came pretty close though!

291 miles isn’t even the first oil change on a new bike. Not really very long at all in the grand scheme of things. There is a reason the middleweight bikes are taking the market by storm. They have enough juice to be solid long distance machines but are light and nimble enough to handle much better in the gravel & worse. If the Transalpine fit you better and was a more enjoyable ride, well that is why they make more than one model. I have a friend who loves his Africa Twin, but also says it carries the weight high and you need to be on your “A” game in the dirt with it. He is a very experienced BDR rider and I trust his judgement on that. Thanks for sharing Jess!

Nice video. I am NOT a gravel fan either. Paved back roads all the way. Side note, saw you and J on the highway today around 3ish. Enjoy your next adventure. That R18 is a head turner.

I'm a newer rider, only a few years, and only in the Midwest so far. It's good to know that even an experienced rider like you can get nervous on unfamiliar roads.

A few weeks ago we rode Hwy 20 from Willits to Fort Bragg. It was awesome. Rode the 1 north till it merged with 101. One of the bikes developed problems so we stayed on it to Eureka for some “field repairs”. Sorry we had to pass on The Avenue of the Giants. Great vid! Btw, always remember to “Ride your own ride” and never apologize. We once kicked a guy out of our group for chastising a slower/newer rider. No place for that.

Jess, I completely understand the doubt getting into your head. Last fall on may return trip home (360 miles) from Flatheads Rally point in Eureka Springs, as you may or may not know I had a rear tire blow on my 1300 V Star (touring bike) and the reoccurring thought if it happened again would I be fortunate enough to keep the bike upright. Now at 62 (as of today 5-29) every time I get on the bike it is like PTSD. I even went to the point of putting a Voyager convertible trike kit on it. Not as smooth on sharp turns due to lack of leaning, but it keeps me riding and that is what matters!!!Just got to keep on riding!!! Also, I like riding with maybe one or two other bikes, just as a safety measure. Most of my trips however tend to be solo.
