How did I go from looking for 500 module videos to becoming a legit Rock fan in 7 seconds? Boy, did I thoroughly enjoy that first minute GREAT JOB!!! And I also want to note that I come from such a different background of musical selection, this changed something today.
FINALLY, someone with a decent video on Stam audio. It's the first time I've seen 76-5 in action and now I feel like I NEED this in my life. I NEED IT!!!, good job. I would have liked to see it with more severe compression but either way it sounded very good. That LA3 type optic looked super good too. I'm super interested in Stam audio now. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
This was the video I needed to see! Been wanting to take the leap of faith & invest in hardware for a hybrid setup. I was torn between rack mount vs lunchbox style ! Definitely going lunchbox 💎
Whoa, without knowing or trying, I have virtually the same gear. All the Stams, plus the HRK. I use an ELI Derr Esser in place of the dbx, because :). Plus a Cranborne 500 adat instead of midas, giving me the spaces for a Lil Chop Shop and a Kush Clariphonic. Because, because.
Just a minor correction: LA-3A style compressors do not have valves (tubes). The LA-3A was designed to be a successor to the LA-2A, and transistor/solid-state designs were the newer and more modern option at the time.
The video help me with something I was going back n forth on, but over RU-vid that chain was too noisy for my taste. I heard that about the midas Chasis. I'm double glad I wastched this.
Where in the living hells did that singing voice come from?!? Amazing Adam, not a lot of people could match Ian Kenny like that! And super informative vid on top.
@@adamsteelproducer I've somehow managed to miss those (seen plenty with you playing bass etc) - gives me a good excuse to dig back through your archives!
Adam, can you please recommend something my wife and I can use for singing live? We use a Mic Mechanic pedal now but it's not enough. Any recommendations?
Yeah that’s normal on a signal chain with 3 valves in series! This is why most 80s and onwards signal chains had gates in. Also this noise tends to get buried on tape
It depend of the module you put in and the order you have them in. I have one here to test on and I don't have any problem, got it 3 years ago. But if someone is handy you can simply change all the caps in it, may do the trick, btw CAPI does a really good 11 space rack for cheap, if you can get those, They are always out of stock.@@adamsteelproducer
stam can sometimes be difficult to obtain. what you want tho is an 1176 clone. most companies make their own version of this fet-style compressor, but if you're wanting a blue stripe, specifically, there's black lion audio, igs, hairball audio and a few others. I'd recommend trying as many different styles and brands of compressors as u can, to find what works best for u.
I was reading online how the Midas 500 lunchboxes don't have enough current once there's stronger signal going into the units, what is your experience with this? Thanks :)
I heard that as well, it’s nonsense. The Midas power supplies can give a lot more than some of the “big name” units. I think whoever is coming up with these things (I also heard something about noise from the PSU bleeding into preamps, which has also turned out to be false) is upset that something affordable is good. Surely, the thing they paid way more for must be better?
Man I really hope you're right.. the price difference in enormous and Midas r supposed to be a console powerhouse with good reputation @@adamsteelproducer
Hi Adam Do you have an tip or trick for better using the share Sm7b with the cranborne ? I use that chain for tracking but I don't like it that much, maybe I am missing something
@@adamsteelproducer I have a bit of a off-topic question not from this video, but if I record a source to a Field recorder and then want to mix using a 500 series rack or anything afterward, the audio effect and stuff will essentially be the same right? Only difference being it is post processing rather than live
Ideal vocal chain. I reached out to Stam for those specific units, and if they said no I would have been buying them anyway. I prefer the LA3A over the LA2A for vocals, Pulse Technologies don’t make a valve Pultec in 500 series, the 76A is my ultimate vocal comp etc etc
take these pieces and put them in a better lunchbox like an IGS, Fredenstein,Wes audio... and hear the difference.... these cheap Midas(Behringer) boxes are crap
No they aren’t, there’s no magic in the other brands. A good silent power supply is a good silent power supply. I’ve heard them both and they’re identical if your modules are designed to be in spec
You seem to be the only one on RU-vid with a Stam 1073 5T (with tube??) I need to hear that thing pushed to distortion with drums or what not....I can't believe Stan doesn't have any videos
