I know there aren't any big names or insane times but I'm a DII athlete and the xc nationals this year had a lot of drama in it as the top runner fainted with less than 2k to go and it was a very dramatic and interesting race. This race was absolutely insane. I ran cross country in the DII NAIA back in the late 70s and early 80s and definitely know what its like to hit the wall with only meters to go. Cooper Teare probably should have held back instead of trying to stay with the lead pack in the beginning. That blistering 4:22 first mile put him in oxygen debt and was most likely the beginning of the end for him with the early lactic acid build up becoming a factor the rest of the race. He is still one of the gutsiest athletes I have ever seen. I have a lot of respect for him even finishing the race when most would have given up. Connor Mantz, on the other hand, was on a whole other level. All I can say is "Wow". He's for sure the real deal. Congrats to him.

I would want to see these runners at European Cross country races where its not just running on some grass for 10km but through mud, forests, streams, boggy fields, and hills. The times are impressive but its like they are just running on a grass track. They need a challenging course where flat speed isn't the only factor but strength, endurance and tactics come into making the champion. It makes watching races more exciting because everything could change for any reason, a person could trip or break away up a steep hill. The end time shouldn't be a big thing as every course should be different with different features which could help certain athletes who no one really knows about to give people who may not be the fastest in flat out speed have a shot at winning.
