Who TF is that shitbag at the beginning where you say, "except for this guy. Fuck this guy." And then you show him standing next to a very passively angry Geoff Keeley (@VGX), acting like a total asshole. Who is he and what does he have to do with RE7? Is he a voice actor? I mean I've seen his face before obviously, he looks extremely familiar, but I can't put my finger on what I know him from... and VGX, I don't really know what that is either, isn't it like PAX only in England or something?
@P1CKLE_R1CK DOOOD! I played tripping, hand to God (one of my fave things to do in VR TBH) got to garage fight, it is an experience I will NEVER be able to put into words..I saw God that night, and beat him to death in a chainsaw fight...
It was one of my first games I ever played in VR and I was just so blown away by the experience. The feeling of actually being there made it so damn creepy. It's a completely different game in VR compared to playing it on a TV. I wish they would add native VR support for PC because the graphics in PSVR were a bit blurred out.
Exactly, I enjoy plenty of long games that use their size and space efficiently, but a lot of games nowadays are far longer than they need to be. You only need to make it as long as it needs to be. No need to cheapen the experience with pointless filler.
@@bandicootsauce4569 yea I loved it. Big fan of RE4. Haven't played a game to completion in a while but this one gave me RE4 vibes and was genuinely fun.
It's strange watching someone who covers this for a living...play a 7th and latest original installment of a rejuvenated iconic series...3 or 4 years later and act surprised by stuff we all already knew and he should've.
@@booty2k he did said in the beginning of the video that "people" (like him) keep forgetting RE7 was the first remake. So he fix just that by making a review, and put bunch of memes into it then usual so we won't bore out. point for at least trying
I'm currently 7 hours in to RE4 remake and had just finished RE8 the night before starting RE4, also bought RE 2 remake, the only reason why I'm not giving RE7 a chance is because it looks scarier than anything I've seen. I think RE8 worked for me cuz it had a lot of light and only got scary whenever you opened a door because you never knew what was on the other side. Fk the dungeons in house dimitrescu tho
@@lucasmoore8558 I got up to the part where you watch the video of the well with the film puzzle, then i watched the rest on RU-vid for that mission so that I don't get jump scares 😂 but after that I didn't use RU-vid for spoilers. I hated the factory though, it was so dark and like a labyrinth. I'm actually still not done with RE4, i paused at 22 hours because I saw a ghost in the island section, I'm too scared to go through it. Been taking a break and playing Skyrim instead.
theres a trade off though. Obviously better overall scares/immersion but with badly degraded blurry visuals potentially causing nausea and just the general clunkiness of having a PSVR set up.
To me Resident Evil 7 was when Capcom got one my radar again. I hadn’t bought a Capcom game in years then I played RE7, Monster Hunter World, RE2R, and played the best DMC games to catch up for 5. I fell in love with the fucked up world Ethan entered. It did everything Resident Evil was meant to be but in a first person perspective. It feels like several types of horror movies, one for each character. I hope RE8 does what this game did.
Hmmm idk. Wasn't a fan of the setting. Felt to much like Outlast and the mold monsters weren't really scary compared to Re2 remake zombies and Lickers in a city.
@@UnifiedEntity Not at all, outlast was more of a horror walking simulator, this is a actual survival horror plus even if it is too much like outlast its MUCH better than it the scares are way more intense the atomsphere is way creepier among other things, and the monsters arent that scary true but the people in the family are the scariest ive ever seen in any game or movie this games scares beats really any game ive ever played.
@@UnifiedEntity I agree that the molders feel pretty repetitive. I nonetheless loved RE7 and I feel like the antagonists personnalities and clear theme of fucked up family relationships were a step up from RE2 (I only playe as claire so far though) where you only have the "Umbrella is evil" aspect. Even if yes, enemy variety is better in RE2. I think that if RE8 manages to use 7's uprades in terms of story and atmosphere and combine it with 2's variety we might be going places.
@@xoafallen6239 idk how youre scared of a old country man and a little old ass lady. Especially when they curse so damn much that you can't help laughing the entire time.
Re7 from the beginning until after the battle with Marguerite is my favorite "section" in any Resident Evil game. Though after that it goes from an amazing game to just a good one.
Ther7 yeah, would’ve been a surprise! The enemies in the game were very mundane. The dog like ones were a pain but everything else (the regular molded) very easy. Heads were huge
I've been playing it because of gamepass, and I've just finished the marguerite part and her boss fight really let me down. Really enjoyed Jack's fight tho, especially the second one, but her's was just boring; I find the enemies, especially no-humans ones, are really boring to fight
He doesn't actually receive that video of Mia on webcam, he receives an email from her telling him to come get her at Baker Estate in Dulvey, Louisiana.
Playing this in VR was the scariest, most immersive entertainment/media experience I've ever had in my life. No movie, TV show, book is anywhere near as scary. Incredible experience.
RE7 was my top game of 2017. It was probably the most immersed I've ever felt in a video game period. I would almost secretly dread progressing in it because I loved being in that environment so much. Not that I wanna be in a Louisiana trash house but I just loved exploring that game so much. I remember my heart racing right before I had to go down in the basement and slowly rounding corners. I think I've played it 3 times since then and every time I wish I could experience it again for the first time again. I hope to god they follow a similar formula for RE8 with a slow first person ACTUAL horror game. Thanks for the video!
I don’t know why I’m getting this recommended but I’m sure glad! Re7 is an amazing game and I feel glad it’s “underrated”. The DLC gave amazing replayability, the game feels like a new experience and it’s all in the RE universe if you pay attention to Files! Way better for everyone to have their on view on the game rather than going in the internet saying “first half good, boat part bad, NPC 2987 shall finish critique now!”
You should play this in VR in anyway you can whether its through pc mod or having to play it on the ps4 with vr at a buddy's place, its a whole new experience and makes the game feel completely fresh and somehow even scarier even if youve already completed it and is one of the best VR games out there. One little small detail that I loved when not a hero finally came out was that the heads up display truely felt like the digital overlay in the helmet which really added to the overall immersion on top of what the game already does to immerse you into the world.
I can't say how happy I am that you put that song in the beggining. People really don't talk about how good the True Detectives season 1 vibe is with this game.
SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE SAID THIS BUT MUST ADD VR, VR, VR! BY FAR THE BEST VR TITLE PLAYED IT FRESH IN VR HAD NIGHTMARES FOR WEEKS! GREAT REVIEW. LOVED YOUR TAKE ON IT!
@@Rabaikal agree. I would say RE7 might be the only full AAA title that fully utilized it though. There are so many amazing "experiences" on pc, and modded old games, but built from the ground up for vr.. they are few and far between. I really hope the companies finally embrace the tech. Its here and works. It's not a gimmick that's going away. I understand fully why they haven't because of the install base, but I'm ready. This shit is great.
Everyone forgets it's true inspiration. This is basically 'Evil Dead - The game' . Quirky, disgusting, terrifying. Fantastic game I'm replaying it through now before resi 8 releases.
Just finished getting the last achievements for this game as this video was published. I passed on this game for so long but ended up getting the gold version with all of the DLC on sale because of the lockdown. So glad I did and so glad that I played through all of the incredible DLC. I actually enjoyed the game a lot more as Clancy (Nightmare and 21) and Joe and I guess even Chris a lot more than playing as Ethan, though I did love the Baker residence. I put 37 hours into this game and it was some of the best I've ever experienced with Resident Evil.
Ethan's hand is not magically put back, this is explained by the end of the game because ethan is in fact infected with the mold and has the regenerative habilities of it.
one thing I love about this game is the replay value. I've achieved everything except for Nightmare Mode difficulty (because FUCK gamepad aiming....) I've got the layout of the entire baker estate cemented in my memory after playing it and replaying it. So much fun. Def worth the money like you said
rinnegan sr its not even a bad thing because RE7 does a very good job of being its own thing. The release of PT and the RE7 demo were close together though lmao
I want 8-bit Eye of the (f*cking) Tiger to play whenever I am kicking ass in real life during the replay of my life on the other side. Absolutely killer.
Re7 really was a good return to form for the series while also trying new things. I can agree the first person perspective works so well in immersion and atmosphere. The way Ethan puts his hands up to defend, the way the camera zooms in when aiming, blood literally splattering onto your face, etc. Really makes the violence and brutality more raw.
Frankly before this game was released. I wasn't sure about the whole series shift. I decided I'd sail the high seas and play it. Well. I beat it. Loved it so much. I bought the full game and all the DLC to boot. It had me addicted for a good couple months. And PSST. a small tip for Ethan must die. You have to play it like... 200 times to memorize enemy locations. Understand by the look and sound of boxes whether or not they're bombs. When I finally beat it. I was like "Yeah. probably the only mode I won't put my self through again." But it makes you a damn untouchable ninja and a crack shot. When I recently played through the story again. I had sooo many damn health potions it was dumb. I'd skirt around the creatures and take them out easily. Ethan must die is basically akin the Hyperbolic time chamber in Dragon Ball. When you come out on top. You're John Wick's long forgotten cousin.
The only gripes I have with this game is some of the early game puzzles, the solutions to which are almost always given away by a note in the room, I think Capcom's intention behind this was to allow the player to progress smoothly since there aren't a lot of enemies, and having to go through multiple rooms to find items for a multi-layered puzzle without any enemies on your way would make for a boring experience, which is why I quite enjoyed the Ship section when you have to play with Mia. Having to start from scratch with a new character in a 5-story ship with enemies crawling in every hallway felt goated.
I've been a big fan of RE since the first game came out and I can easily say RE7 is my favorite in the series. It's a shame that the disappointing previous titles diminished RE7's hype. The story was engaging, with genuinely interesting characters; the gameplay was fun without sacrificing the horror elements. But the reason why RE7 was such an incredible experience for me was it's level design and pacing. You start as a completely valnurable character where you are being chased and terrorized by the villains. As you progress in the game though, the hunted becomes the hunter. By the end of the game you are the one chasing the enemies down. This transition really helped the game to stay fresh, it just keeps changing formulas rather than sticking with one. The soundtrack is not to be forgotten too, so haunting and beautiful Also playing the game with PSVR is always a mind-blowing experience.
The reason that the amount of ammo it takes to kill can seem pretty varied in the resident evil series is cause it is, the games tend to feature adaptive difficulty where if the game sees that you're having a pretty easy time and conserving ammo well, it tends to make the zombies a bit tankier or resource drop more sparse, to the point where in speedruns of the games they are very deliberate about what enemies they kill so as to not increase this modifier in the background at inopportune times. Not saying this would make you any more or less frustrated at the seeming randomness, but there usually is a reason there to try to keep that survival horror element of rationing resources and almost always being on the brink of running out. Also on the harder difficulties I believe this is always set to max pretty much, so far less random if you know what you're doing
Ethan didnt receive the video from Mia. If you check the inventory you can find that all he got was an text message from her saying smth like "come find me" with the Baker's adress
This was just a really good video. Im glad this video exists, thank you. (Also would love to probably have you go back and review the first RE remake or RE4 in preparation to whatever they do to that game in its remake.
He screamed in pain and fear, how else is he supposed to react? He's infected with the virus so it's pretty much the same as when the Bakers would lose something
It’s sad that most people never even played the original RE1-3 games that made the series so ICONIC. They’re ignorant enough to call the controls “bad” when they were actually great and had a learning curve but people want everything fed to them on a spoon nowadays... well it’s a shame because those games ARE FANTASTIC! They’re classics for a reason!
Why did it take me 5 years to play this?? This game is a survival-horror masterpiece that somehow outdoes the brilliant RE2 Remake. The only signs that 7 is a last-gen game are the animations, especially with Marguerite, but it feels fresh and modern like it came out yesterday.
Yo Skillup, can't recall. You ever get the chance to play through Hellblade? Awfully good time to do it. I was way way behind but with all the extra time.. And damn, helluva title there
then i guess it's a good thing i have severe anxiety and depression . it's the perfect game 4 me. but good review as always skillup. hope u n ur family r safe
Don't forget about the demo. It's it's own side story and you can unlock some of the antique coins for the main game. But yeah RE7 is pretty cool. For me it falls into the RE4 category of great game but if they gave it another title nobody would question why it wasn't called Resident Evil.
WHY is it that LITERALLY everyone thinks that Ethan is going to find Mia due to the video where she says "All I can say is, stay away" He never saw that video He started looking for her because of an email he got with an address saying "come find me" He didn't ignore her warning. Sorry, it's a really big pet peeve of mine. The email is in the inventory of ethan when you first open it after being able to play.
If you have the ability to do so you should absolutely play through it again in PSVR, preferably on a Pro. It's one of the best VR experiences you can find despite not really making use of any part of it but 3d visuals. It's kind of a shame you already played through it normally as I think that VR is probably the best way to experience the game for the first time.
