I usually have nightmares about it. LOL But at least those dreams its 1000 times worse, Thanks for the support. I've been meaning to see if you are streaming Elden Ring or you just playing it offline?
@@IowaRetroGamerDad i have been streaming some and playing some offline. but most of the time i'll do both if i got time to do so. when i finally get the game refinished again. (i lost my original data) i'll be streaming the DLC.
A few months ago my sub pump went, whole basement flooded with over 2 feet of water. I lost so many high end video games and comics and collectibles, thousands upon thousands of dollars,so I feel your pain brotha, completely sucks man.
Same thing happened to me in NY last year. Lost over 20k in items (arcades ,clothes, vacuums etc) but luckily the adjuster who came said my insurance was very good and it covered every single penny except the $500 deductible. Lost old family photos that were in a closed box but somehow still got wet and that was the worst because it was irreplaceable.
The family photos is what worried me but we luckily got it upstairs in a closet instead of stored in the basement. Our insurance covers up to 5,000 since it was a sewer back up mainly. That'll cover almost everything. Thank God. lol
Man cave--always relegated to the basement. I'm not married. If I were, I'd make it a point that if we owned a house, the game library would remain above ground and situated in a room with anti-flood measures. I've seen this happen to so many youtubers.
@@IowaRetroGamerDad I hope things work out for you. The last thing you need is a huge mold explosion in your house. Mold can be toxic. I have had small mold issues before in my apartment and I run a dehumidifier now.
Feel your pain. Went thru that few years back. I'd move your game room upstairs if you can. I did. Gave me some piece of mind. Also suggest running a dehumidifier down there for awhile to get all that moisture down there. Not good for any of that stuff. So lucky it wasn't sewage!!!
Oh man. I'm sorry; I really hate this for you. In the grand scheme of things, you got lucky compared to other folks in Iowa and Minnesota. I'm glad to see you're still in good spirits
Sorry to hear about the flooding man. Hope you’re able to get everything cleared up with the basement without too much headache. Hope all is well other than that my friend!
I think the most annoying part will be we have to cut some walls to make sure mold isn't growing. This would unfortunately have bare spots then but hopefully I can get my buddy to repair it afterwards. lol Glad you commented Steve!
We've had the fans and stuff going for like 2 weeks and I honestly think we're good but we'll see. I think the restoration guys are coming next week to look into it more.
Yikes, sorry to hear about the damage. Good job it didn't rise high enough to get into live sockets and start a fire. Some places I'd never put my game room: on the 2nd floor, in the basement, below a bathroom/laundry room. The amount of loss I'd feel to lose my possessions that way would hurt somethin' awful.
Dude…so sorry to hear this. Glad to hear that you and the family are safe and ok. Hope that all the items and gameroom end up ok. 🙏 I can understand why you may want to start getting rid of some unused items but I do have to say I doubt you will like the Retron 5. I have had one for a few years and it’s just not the same in my opinion. If you need anything bro just ask. 🤙🏻
Thanks Josh! We will see. There is alot going on right now and I don't even know what Im gonna do next. Haha. Thanks for the support buddy. I'll get through this and coming stronger in the end. Its been fun to chill in the living room with my PS5 instead of the basement haha
a few years ago, my son and his friend were playing hide and seek in my basement, they unplugged the sump pump and didn't tell me. I went downstairs and the carpet was drenched. i started freaking out and my first thought was "MY GAMES!"
LOL Yes! Luckily I bought those plastic black shelves a few months ago and was able to get all the expensive stuff off the floor! It still was heart breaking to see the water coming in.
Damn dude sorry your going thru thay fellow iowa game collector here i lucked out my part of iowa didnt get that bad of floods stay strong buddy! Keep up the good work
I know how it feels to have a small flood like that because that happen to me quite few time when I lived in Chicago and I definitely remember the one I had also when I lived in Iowa but that was a pipe burst. I learned stuff can be replaced but not the memories though.
What's up brother thank you so much for sharing I'm glad from what you said the damages have been minimal compared to what could have happened at the end of the day it's just stuff what really matters is your safety in your family if you have those things you have everything you have everything
Yes! Main focus became saving those two! We actually have some people in town using the gym and stuff I run to shower because they dont have hot water!
Sorry to see this happen to you; but glad to hear you and your family are fine that is what really matters. I'm like 15 min from Phoenix Arizona it only rains about a gallon of water a year lol.
Oof!! It get super hot though thats for sure. My buddy showed me a picture of his car when he lived in Phoenix and it looked like the paint was burning off his car. lol
That sucks man. If you’re thinking about purging most of your stuff, you might want to think about learning about emulation. Just a thought. Sending prayers and wishing you the best in your situation.
Whatever got damaged can be replaced. This is why my wife and I agreed that my gameroom would be upstairs instead of our basement. Too much value in some of this stuff and is hard to find
The collection is good! I had to throw away most my storage shelves and stuff but the games themselves are good! Thanks for commenting buddy. I hope you and Tommy are doing good.
Oof. The pictures of a local town really reminded me of when Hurricane Katrina came. Obviously that was way worse for you guys but for our little towns its bad.
Time heals all... and dries up water. lol We are getting there. Luckily most the stuff damaged is replaceable. Our family albums and stuff are stored on the main floor.
I know a lot of your channel focuses on library slim down (and you get a lot of sympathy from viewers about this topic), but I always viewed a library as there when I need it. 7:57 I haven't played some systems in over two years. I'm fine with that. They are there when I want to engage, and the money I'd make from selling them wouldn't pay my crazy California rent.
Agreed. I kind of want to do some work to my basement now so the extra money from selling those consoles would go towards just getting a Retron 5 and fixing the walls after we knock some of them down to make sure no mold is coming.
@@IowaRetroGamerDad I guess that would free up space. There are several emulation and FPGA solution consoles like the Mister or even modular-systems like the Polymega that gamers have a lot of choice. I have a modded XBox but I tend to use it only for arcade games.
How much ya asking for that Dreamcast? I got an ODE calling its name. Hope all are warm, mentally healthy and well hung xoxo prays for all in the Midwest is it
Not sure what I would even sell it for yet. I got a local boy who has first dibs if I do decide to sell. Thanks for the kind words! We'll get through it!
This is why you don't place yer gameroom in basements. Never ends well unless you live in a place where Basements are not liable to be flooded. Seen to many game rooms and "Mancaves" get flooded to ever place my collections in one. Instead of gaming basments, people should make gaming lofts. Happy to hear that the important non-gaming stuff didn't break. As for getting a Retron 5, go for it. I have one and I love it, buy a Master System Converter to go with it and you are good to go with Master system games on it as well..
Yeah. We actually are in a flooding area but we got so much rain it couldn't be stopped. Its crazy how fast it came. Just lucky we were able to control ours as best as we could.
Water damage is seriously no joke, it pretty much destroyed my entire collection back in 2017 so I feel the pain. Thankfully lots of stuff survived here and it helped with some clarity as to what you want and need. Hoping for a quick recovery here bro, I know you'll bounce back in time.
Luckily my collection was high enough up I didn't suffer too much on that. I did however lose the risers on my 1ups. lol Maybe I'll just put one of those in my sons room (The Pacman one). Water damage destroys about as much as a fire I feel like.
