When you fish from the bank as much as I do, you're bound to run into a few problems with boaters. But, this example is so ridiculous if I didn't have it on video you probably wouldn't believe it. Not the way I wanted to start the 2024 fishing season. More fishing videos, carp bait recipes, fishing gear list, and other good stuff linked below. Thanks for watching.

I just had a bunch of these idiots do the exact same thing to me on the Detroit River while I was walleye jigging from shore. These boats have the entire river but want to drift 20 feet from shore where all of us guys who are fishing from shore have lines in the water so ive started to make a habit of keeping about 2 dozen 2 ounce egg sinkers in my tackle box and if they don't take heed to the "warning" shot of me casting my 1 ounce walleye jig 3 feet from there boat I start throwing the 2 ounce sinkers onto their boats. Broke a guys windshield last week and he pulled into shore to "fight" me until he realized I'm a life long Detroiter who doesn't play games and will kick 3 of their asses at once on my own. They tucked tail and got back on their boat after they realized what kind of "individual" I am. Unfortunately there's 300 boats on the river this time of year and half of em don't have respect for the guys who fish from shore so I'll just keep throwing sinkers at em. 😡 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That's just arrogance is what that is. Boat or no boat, if you were there first, you have every right to fish that area. Respectfully, they should have went around your lines. I have a boat. I don't like doing that to others trying to enjoy their day from the shoreline. Not sure what their purpose was having to be in that exact spot and ignoring your lines....again.

Similar experience here. USA, Pa- some years back. Shore fishing a large lake with my young daughters and a buddy. The Fish Commission stocking boat was stocking trout- and saw there were kids on the shore, so they dumped a bunch of fish about 20yds in front of us. Within five minutes, a ten foot metal john boat raced over and parked BETWEEN us on shore and the spot the fish were stocked. We tried talking to them, they could have fished the same spot from the other side- without totally blocking our fishing. They got rude and angry- so my buddy and I put large, heavy wooden bobbers on our poles (no Hooks) and started casting directly at their boat. We hit the boat, hit them a few times too. They threatened to land and "Beat our *sses". We stood up- both of us are over 6ft, 250lbs. They decided to leave.LOL.

This happened to us but the role is switched. We were fishing a spot in Lake Sonoma and we were on a boat. We were catching fish left and right at this one spot. We were pretty close to the bank. Then these bank anglers walked up and started casting where our lines were. One of them tangled out line. We confronted them and they didn't say a thing. We ended up leaving the spot and as we were leaving, they caught a 5lber. Could've been our fish. Point is, there's an unwritten rule that if someone is already fishing a spot, you give them space and move along. Don't be that guy and step on people's toes just because the spot is hot.

In our area which had easier access there were literally hundreds of migrants would come through when the salmon were swimming upstream to spawn. They left behind so much trash that we finally got the Fish & Game Wardens to come out. At night they caught & fined many of them for their illegal snagging of the salmon. Most of them also got tagged for Trespassing as parts of the river passed through private lands.

As a boater I avoid bank fishermen. I have got tangled with a couple of people because I was unaware where their lines were but I apologize and felt stupid for doing it. I bass fish and don't troll but occasionally people will leave lines out unattended. If you don't see anyone on their dock you assume no one is fishing but if someone is fishing I don't fish that dock. You have to show respect to earn it. For me fishing is peace of mind and don't want to be angry while doing so. Some people don't have common sense. We need to respect each other. There's some docks where the dock owners don't like it when you fish close so to avoid confrontation I just don't fish them.

Unattended lines are another big problem. I run into that everywhere I fish and people leave lines out on purpose constantly which trollers snag the rigs or drag the rods into the lake. Usually, they were leaving out big baits like panfish or suckers to catch Musky leaving the fish on the hook for hours as they nap or watch a movie, or worse they catch a loon and it struggles until it dies. Now I generally cut the lines and free the bait/fish or rescue the loon. (keep a towel in the boat to throw over them and they settle down)

The first sign they noticed that something was really wrong was when he reappeared on the shore holding a drain plug hollering "Hey guys, you know what this is for?". It didn't sink in right away. Then they realized that all their lines were cut and tied together under their boat. As one guy reeled in one line, it pulled the line on the opposite side down. They sat there fighting each other for a bit before they realized they were taking on water. By the time they realized what a guy holding a drain plug on the shoreline laughing meant, all they could do was beach the boat so it didn't sink. Too bad they chose to beach it on the muddy marsh side of the channel, we could have had another conversation on life's lessons. That same buddy who swam out and took their drain plug was good for tricks like that. We always wondered why he ever came fishing in a boat because so many times he'd just roll off the back of the boat and disappear for hours. One of the first incidents we had with him was back in the 80's when he first got out of the service. We were out catfishing, that time in a boat, when a guy on a jetski kept circling the boat and running off, we moved twice and he followed us. Then we heard a splash and my buddy slipped into the water off the back. As the jetski came by again, all we saw was an arm come up out the water and the guy face planting in the drink. As the jetskit circled and came to a stop, my buddy climbed on it and took off. We didn't see him again till the next day. The guy on the jetski got picked up by a buddy and they went looking for the lost ski. We never did get the story on what happened to the jetski, but I suppose he ran it till it ran out of gas or it left at some water-side bar or marina, or gifted to the first person who would take it. He would never say and since he's no longer with us, we will never know.

I can't stand boaters who think they own the lake. Seriously, you HAVE A BOAT and can fish anywhere on the lake and so why is it so hard to go somewhere else. Its no different then when you go hunting on public land, you over slept, show up late and someone else beat you to the spot and instead of going elsewhere, they decide to sit by you. These are the same people when they see you get on the fish , if in a boat they drive over to your location or if on the bank, they will move towards you snd literally get within 10 feet of you and have the audacity to cast into your fishing spot with their lines being only a few feet from yours and of course they end up getting tangled on your lines. Ive been fishing and hunting for 40 years and ive easily had well over hundred of these types of negative encounters with other sportsman. Its shameful to say the least.

I feel your pain. People like that really piss me off. I'll be standing on the dock with my line out, and they'll come right beside me and cast out about two feet from my line. Take care and keep that line tight.

I have a similar story. I fish in a tidal river from the bank and cast out no more than 15 metres (about 16 yards). The river is at least 200 metres (220 yards) wide. Up river is a rowing club and they tend to get out rowing with their coach following in a powered boat early mornings while fishing. Instead of going out into the middle of the river, they row past about 10 metres from the bank and always snag my line and those of other fishers. After this went on for a few fishing sessions, I changed all my lines to 100lb breaking strain. Heavy to fish but I get joy from seeing them tangled in fishing line that they have no chance of snapping off. Not my fault if it cuts into their arms. They will learn eventually.

Boat fishermen out on Lake Michigan do this to each other, too. They’ll cross each other’s spreads and get tangled, and then it’s a competition to see who can reel in the fastest with the strongest line. The winner gets a new rig. I think there’s some guys who do this on purpose just to “prove their manhood”. Probably just compensating for some other deficiencies in their lives.

Unfortunately i did this to someone trolling for salmon. they were on the bank amongst rocks and trees and i did not see them. River was moving fast so i told them i will cut my line and come back to get gear. At first they were pissed but then got better when i apologized and cut my own lines with $40.00 tolling rigs on each to make it easier to untangle. no one lost any gear, just 10 minutes of fishing time. I always go wide when i see someone fishing, but it is tough to see people some times when they are in the trees and rocks along the bank.(FYI, I fish this river often and had never seen anyone along that stretch of bank before, did not even know there was access. If i know there is river access, i don't even fish that stretch, or move to the other side). For those that say i could fish the middle, well the salmon move along the banks for the most part to stay away from seals.

Why is it that some guys will take a boat to a large lake just to fish next to the shore where other people are fishing. How many of you have parked your car far out in a parking lot to avoid getting your doors scratched only to return and find there are cars parked all around yours, despite the fact that there are dozens of other parking spots they could have parked. Another one we find interesting is going to a movie theater and sitting in a far corner to avoid rowdy children and parents who don't care. When they come into the theater they immediately spot you and your wife way back in a corner and here they come with 4-5 kids and sit right next to you, despite the fact that there are dozens of other unoccupied seats in the theater.

If someone starts doing like those idiots I reel in my poles and keep what I drag out of their boat then I close the gap on a spark plug and cut the rig off one of my poles and tie on the spark plug at the threaded end. This leaves the pointed end able to hit their boat. When it's all ready I take aim and let it fly right into the side of their boat (I cast it like a sinker). And a couple guys in a boat real nice jet boat came by not more than 10 yards from the shore ended up snagging both of our lines while the others that were trolling would just swing wide bit no problems there and we fish there all day and finally about 5 o’clock in the evening caught one. I found myself having to read, resist the urge to cast the lines back out a little bit further when I knew they would be coming around again same distance. I couldn’t resist that temptation so one was definitely my fault for making sure that would happen For a third or fourth time. When we got back to the fish cleaning station, there were a couple guys that were trolling by and they would give us a wider berth. They took one of their fish out of their cooler and gave to us because they saw us working so hard, all day long trying to catch the one.
