Oh my friend, what is happening is gut wrenching!!! I hear your pain and compassion in your voice. I PROMISE you, when we get done traveling the country, I will open up my home to as many guinea pigs as I can. I will keep praying and keep talking to people every chance I get. Especially if I am in a pet store and someone is looking at guinea pigs. I know there is one pet store that dislikes me very much. Hang in there❤❤

We currently have 10 rescued piggies and it’s hard to keep up with everything they need. Having 24 for one person or having the hundreds at the LAGPR - it’s hard to imagine. You all are doing wonderful things.

Scotty I am so sorry that people aren't being more involved. At this time I have 5 rescues that have become part of my herd. I have had Petie and Bear for almost 5 years, the two tiny babies found in a dumpster are now 3 years old, and I have a 1 year old that was living in a shoe box in a child's bedroom. I wish I could take more, but I can't afford more vet bills. I love them so very much, they give me a reason for living. I wish we could get legislation passed that pet stores can't sell guinea pigs anymore. Or, at least make a mandatory learning class before people blindly take on ownership of animals that have such special needs. God bless you, Scotty.

I worked in cat rescue for many years, until my allergies started acting up and I developed serious asthma. I also helped set up a mobile vet clinic in a town I lived in, working with the SPCA locally. The mobile clinic drove around to all the parks where homeless people hung out and offered them care for their animals and spay/neuter. The two boars I have now are a new species for me and my partner, but we are trying to learn as much about guinea pigs as we can and give them a good life. Rescue people are heroes and I admire you so much, Scotty.

I've also found that rescue piggies tend to be more affectionate as you both bond over their trauma. Not every person is bad that surrenders though, in fact it can be kinder for the piggies as they have the potential for a better life. Always rescue adopt and don't shop. 😊

I had 2 bunnies returned to me from two separate households within a month of each other. I am terribly grateful to have them back in my care, but I'm not a rescue either. And when we have returns, it's usually a scramble to get them in. I'm not sure if piggies have the same issue with regard to being bought for Easter gifts...but I know the rabbit dumps have already begun. If anyone reading the comments can help any of your local rescues, even with volunteering time, PLEASE do it! Especially your local small animal rescues. ❤

Shelters may or may not have a foster program but many rescues do. You can also check my worldwide rescue list. I'm sure you have seen the video where I explained the difference between shelters and rescues. If not you can search for it. You may find some differences that you had not thought about

I currently have a boar who was dumped at the clinic. He HATES other pigs, so he’s an only child. He has a 2x5 alone with a locked top. He’s safe, not enough attention but I have a small animal aggressive rescued terrier so keeping them apart means Piggo is in a room behind a latched door. I’d never intentionally give a pig this life, but there’s nowhere else for Piggo to go and no rescue can take a pig who wants to be an only pig.

@ScottysAnimals sadly not here in Belize. I haven't really searched here...I know they need to be in pairs at a minimum, but I found with both skinkies I've had, they didn't want a friend. My haired ones did always want a buddy (and they had one) but Jupi is spoiled and very close with me and all my friends. I've had bunnies and piggies for over 20 years (piggies only for 6) and I usually would have a pair. I may see about adopting from Fenella again and going thru all the hoops to get him here, but I know no pig will be the great traveler's that Jupi is. I lucked out.

Yes it’s bad, I can’t even count the number of surrender requests we get every week. What we could really use help with here in Southern California is to amend the current bill that prohibits the sale of rabbits, dogs and cats, to include Guinea pigs. We REALLY need someone who has the time and knowledge to start this process. Figure out how this can be done and just start it. I’ve spoken at length with other rescues and none of us who are running these rescues have the time because we’re so swamped with the actual work of saving these guys. Once they stop selling them in petstores it is likely going to take several years for us to get back to a manageable place. 🆘 we need help

I know this breaks your heart. It breaks mine also. I started out with two from pet finder. And now that people know I have guinea pigs I am up to 8. They need to stop being able to sell ANY animal at pets stores people are not buying them responsibly they’re buying them at a whim because it’s a cute, fuzzy little animal and have no idea what they’ve got. Until something is done about how these animals are being sold. This is going to get worse and I totally agree. Hang in there Scotty you’re the best and you do look really tired so try to rest you’re doing the best.

I seen a Reddit post about a lady returning a piggie to la guniea pig rescue I reassured her her piggie was going to good hands She was very distressed but her pigs were fighting I’m sorry Scotty your an amazing guy Love you buddy

It's such a shame that we as humans can cause such a problem. It's hard for me to have compassion for people who get piggies (or any pets) without doing their research. But I try to be understanding, and I try to remember that knowledge and compassion is going to solve a problem so much better than hatred. I'm so thankful for you and everyone else out there who is helping animals in need. The education that you provide is so incredibly valuable. I'm actually going to be adopting my first ever piggies very soon 🥳🎉 Sending love and positive vibes to you, and everyone out there who is helping the cause 🩷

I don't believe things will get better, only worse. People don't have the same sense of responsibility anymore, plus the escalating price of pellets, hay, vegetables, etc...

When people say food is too expensive I remind them they can buy a bale of hay for about $40 or less in some places and for a pair of pigs that would last well over 6 months. Considering that's 80% of their diet, that is huge. I think a lot of people get in over their head because pet stores trick them into thinking guinea pigs are easy. Not many people impulse buy dogs and cats the way they do guinea pigs.

@@ScottysAnimalsOh, I see lots of puppies being rehomed on craigslist when they could only have had them 3 or 4 weeks...and cats in my neighborhood are abandoned all the time and left to fend for themselves in the street. I feed more now than ever before. I really think there is a lack of any sense of personal responsibility, and just plain laziness when it comes to all the things that have to be done on a daily basis.

I bought my very 1st guinea pig from the pet store 2 1/2 yrs ago, and I had no clue about the care, or even that I shouldn't have only one. Now, I'm a regular watcher of your channel, the Pig Room, and the LA Guinea Pig Rescue. I have 4 piggies now, and they are just the best pets ever! But, their care is very misrepresented in pet stores, and that is a huge problem. They take alot of continous upkeep to ensure they stay in great health.

I have a question to ask you Scotty. Why do people keep misunderstanding the need to educate themselves about guinea pigs. I can't belive how many of them end up in such dire predicaments. I had to give up two of my piggies to an animal shelter (we had four) because we didnt have the right cages for them and I didn't have the time to take care of them well, and the bigger cage was smaller than should be for two pigs, but now my two pigs have a bigger cage

I have three girls that I rescued from a shelter that I've had just over 3 1/2 years now. I would love to get more but I'm disabled and money is an issue. My local rescue doesn't provide food when you foster their guinea pigs, so I don't know if I could even foster either. I really wish I could help more!

I got my Harvey at South LA animal shelter. He was there 5 months. Thank goodness I followed my instincts. He gets along well with Cowboy. I was told he was successfully bonded 2 times and loss his companion when they were adopted. So he has practiced. Cowboy had 1 cage mate and did well before. I'm at a capacity, I've got 4 in an apartment in a 2 story large cage. . If I had a house I would be able to take more.

Scott if I didn't have asthma I'd have probably about 20 guinea pigs myself. But unfortunately since I have asthma it is actually not a good scenario for me. Because it would put me in the hospital on a regular basis. And I learned that a very long time ago with my first guinea pig I ever had.

I need to adopt more piggies, but every male pair I've had ends up in painful separations, requiring ER trips for bleeding wounds. Though none have died, the space needed post-separation is overwhelming. Currently bonding two new boys, desperate to merge their cages. My love for them knows no bounds. I wish I could rescue all 200 on our local shelter's waitlist. ❤

Thank you for all you do! ❤ I know there has been slow progress with banning the sale of guinea pigs in pet stores but more needs to be done on that front. Instead, pet stores should work with rescues to adopt out piggies. They do that with cats at Petsmart. I wish I had room for more piggies. Just locally here, there were just two females looking for a home the other day and a skinny pig boar pair. It’s so sad 😢 Those are just the posts I was tagged in on Facebook.

I have had my piggie, Latimore, for over 14 mos now and he has brought me joy in taking care of him (from a pet store) - I'm thinking about getting another piggie to keep him company, but he's been by himself for so long I'm nervous about getting another one to keep him company with his own kind...?

i was piggy iggnorent so to say when i first adopted my pigs ,was two boys and was in small store cage (both of them) so didnt last long started fighting i went oit got another cage and put side by side and read book or two and bindge watch you channel and thenn built a 3x6 and split down center and jus been scared to try inerduce them again but i now be much happyer in there if was wide open and not split it but would love give more rom i never knoew thay needed all that thay do but i fell inlove (thay was suppost be my daughters but im a horrable helicopter piggy daddy lol but i thank you and command you on all you do for such sweet animals ,there def needs be more education and these pet stores horrable ,any way much love and squeek on

Hey Scotty Id love to thank you for all that youve done for guinea pigs and their care!! I took ALL of your advice about cage making, and I just today got done with my boys' 7x3 forever cage! I took my time with making it, to make it as beautiful and strong as possible for them. I adopted my piggies from a hoarder situation where they were rescued by a woman with a huge heart. My piggies had ringworm, and I took your advice on that. They are improving! And your advice on making CnC cages was so helpful, I even got the binder bars to make sure they don't damage their new home over time. If youd like to take a peek I uploaded a short zoomie vid today of them in their brand new cage! Me and my piggie boys owe you an incredible amount of thank yous for all the free advice you give to guinea pig owners.

In the diet section of my free guinea pig care guide on my website I offer suggestions about allergies and hay alternatives like orchard Grass and other grass hay. I had debilitating allergies to Timothy but switching to orchard Grass and fleece was a game changer for me. I no longer need to use my rescue inhaler five times a day and I no longer wake up unable to breathe in the middle of the night.

@@sk22-12 Unfortunately I'm on several medications and I have specialized air filters but I've still got really bad allergies both indoors and outdoors. I'll probably never be able to have pets again because my allergies tend to escalate into infections. I live vicariously through animal rescue videos and donate when I can :)

I live in the UK and recently I bred two litters of piggies not realising how bad the situation is. I had 6 piggy babies to find homes for. I wasn’t happy letting them go just anywhere. So I gave them to a piggy rescue who I can really trust thankfully. ❤❤
