After two years, expectations for season 4 were high. Everyone was scared, how could Esmail make it worth? So we had this episode. And it's not even the best of the season, not by a long shot. Welcome to the best season of tv.
Yeah Emmy Rossum is married to the creator Sam Esmail, who also made an appearance this episode, he's the one at the end who says "goodbye friend" to Elliot. Poetic
Oh it hurts each time😭! And the anger that follows is same as you.. But it is a great writing choice (more on this later) as viewer as well as Elliot is forced into a shell. So, much so that Mr. Robot is the one that talks to us now. RIP Angela! Probably most someone's death hurt in this show, for me. She went through a lot and I so wish she was there for what's coming. It's such a bittersweet ending.. x-x-x On the other hand, our leads aren't fighting anymore. Feels good after seasons of them being at other's throats for their end goal. Here's something cool... 22:33 This is Sam Esmail himself!! (Writer-Director of almost the whole show) He's made several appearances throughout the show, but this one is the most apparent. Also, I think Emmy Rossum is his wife! x-x-x There's split-second frame of Angela's dead body's photo that Whiterose sent to Elliot. It appears after Mr Robot's suggestion of showing Darlene that photo. It's like a subconscious recalling and immediately shoving away of that memory. I brought this up here because, If I remember correctly, Angela's actress, Portia Doubleday, didn't want to work on Mr Robot anymore as she felt acting was too tough a lifestyle. Some suggest she left because Rami Malek broke up with her (I don't know the details). In Mr Robot Live discussions with Sam Esmail (happened after each episode aired), he's never said that their break up was the reason. They had some more story for her, but it all worked out in the end. The ending is still bittersweet.. Kinda like how "Dark" was bittersweet.
Now remember, back in the day of release, people had to wait almost two years(!) between 3rd & final season. So yeah .. "hello, and welcome back to the final season"-episode, and that in the first 5 minutes😮
I think one thing the show does extremely well is to depict violence, especially murder. Like you have many movies and shows having people shooting each other and whatnot, but the 'normal' thing to do to make a death look tragic is to have the dying person alive for another 5 minutes being like "Oh no, I've got shot, now I will never see my family again". In Mr Robot violence is comparatively rare, but when it happens, it's often fast and they do it in a way that makes it feel far more brutal than death in most other movies/shows. It's really just something that happens relatively quickly and then you as the viewer just have to deal with it. Which is... how violent death often is, I guess.
One of the greatest seasons ever. While the third season is fantastic, the fourth is much better, and although this episode is outstanding, it doesn't even rank in the top five of the season. My ranking and rating of the seasons is: 1. S4 (10/10) 2. S3 (9.5/10) 3. S1 (9.5/10) 4. S2 (9/10) And after this masterpiece you should continue with one of these masterpieces: True Detective S1, Succession, Dark, The Bear, Arcane, The Leftovers, Fleabag, Barry, Ted Lasso, Hannibal, or Severance.
23:50. At the beginning, Whiterose agreed with her assistant, that Eliott should be put on a short leash and remind him what's at stake if he strays from her plans. This is why she sent her henchmen to show Eliott, how they can stage his death as an overdose, and then brought him back, before his heart stopped.
This is the perfect season, many wonder how it is possible to surpass everything you did before and give us a perfect ending, but when you know the fact that Sam Smail (creator, writer and director) paused production ONE WHOLE YEAR just to write the script is that you realize, he gave his all and thought about it about five hundred times (and apart from the fact that the ending is clear that he had it in mind from the first minute, you'll see) what a damn masterpiece
First of all, I love watching your reactions!!! Your facial expressions kill me cuz it’s how I first processed the show. 😂😂 Secondly, I love that you’re so insightful that you’re so spot on with predicting what’s about to happen.
