When they performed Yellow at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2006 - Giant yellow balloons floated over our heads, then lasers burst them and tons of yellow confetti fell over us in the crowd. It was magical.

at my first coldplay concert in 2009, it was a rather small show with about 15k people, they blew paper butterflies in the air while singing lovers in japan and for some reason they were glowing and flying all over the venue. it´s such a simple thing to do but the effect was so massive. i´ve been to more shows since then and they were all awesome, but that butterfly moment in 2009 sticks with me until today ;)

i think chris once said that there is no actual meaning to the word yellow, he just needed a word that sounded good for that specific sorta down drag of the melody and while thinking about it he at some point realised he was looking at some yellow object and thought it fit perfectly, and then he wrote the rest of the song around it, maybe it then ended up having some meaning but idk (not 100% sure if this is true, but i hope it clears it up a bit)

One of my favorite songs ever and it's extremely sentimental for me. When my son was a baby, I used to put this song on and dance around the living room holding him and singing it directly to him like a lullaby. He is almost 20 years old now, and of course he has no real memory of this because he was just an infant at the time, but I have told him the story so many times that he will often just text me the word "Yellow" whenever he hears it somewhere. When I hear it I get all the bittersweet feelings of a mother watching her child grow up and become independent but still having all that protective "I'd do anything for you" love for them. Definitely a special song for me.

What’s even more amazing is that the music video wasn’t even meant to be like that at all. Originally it was meant to have the entire band walking through a crowded beach in bright yellow daylight. But sadly Will Champion (Coldplays drummer) had his mother’s funeral on the day of filming. All the rest of the band had to go to the funeral except Chris, who was left to film the video on his own in the dark. I couldn’t imagine it any other way

Yellow is a color that represents hope. This is why the song has a way deeper meaning than what’s on the outside. That’s also why a lot of people still love this song even though it’s over a decade old

The myth told in Iceland is that Yellow is about a certain fairhaired Icelandic singer that was in one of the warm up bands for Coldplay's tour at that time, that Chris had the hots for. Later it was said to be about Gwyneth Palthrow's golden locks but I don't think the time adds up for that. But I've always felt that yellow stood for a person that influenced the person writing so that they saw every thing with 'yellow glasses' so to speak, similar to 'rose colored glasses', so everything around them reminded them of that person or brought up memories of that person.

One of the best songs ever written. I will always remember the day I first saw this video 20 odd years ago and a young Chris Martin. Little did he know where it would all lead. He says in interviews he was trying to do a Neil Young type song and yes the word yellow has no particular meaning. All the better for it in my opinion- lovely voice too

Ive re- discovered Coldplay recently . Im a metal head from the 90s and Coldplay wasnt really my thing when they came out. Now in my older age , I can aporeciate their music and i absolutely love it.

The explanation as to what those "yellow" lines mean from Chris Martin himself: "This song just came out of the blue one night in Wales. Originally, it sounded like a Neil Young song, but it was missing this key word, and it used to go, “Look at the stars, look how they shine for you/And all the things you do…”, and there was this gap. So I was sitting there singing the song and I looked to the nearest book to me, and it was the Yellow Pages. In an alternate universe, this song would be called Playboy."

Love Coldplay. Been listening to them since I was a kid. Still one of my favourite bands. Started hearing them in the car with my mum when I was a kid. This album (parachutes) was released on the day before I was born, on the 10th July 2000. Gutted to have missed tickets for them in the UK this year.

Yeeeees! Yellow is such a sweet love song without being cliche. I know Coldplay has a lot of proud of their albuns, but the first one 'Parachutes' which this song came from still is my favorite so far. The raw and acustic sound in it is captivating. I know one day you'll be able to listen it without interruption and feel its beauty.

The story of the video was the entire band was was going to be on the beach, but the drummer Will’s mom had died of cancer and they decided the other three members would go to the funeral and Chris would do the video on his own since everything was booked. It was then they decided he just walk down with a single camera. The story is in the movie which is a must see. They dedicated their first album to Will’s mom. Clocks is definitely the one to see. Speed of Sound is epic as well, especially with the official video. So many great songs to experience.

I needed this today. My dad passed 14 years ago this past June, just shy of his 66th birthday. He loved this song. It still reminds me of him so much. I equate the yellow stars to his soul. And I know he would have “bled himself dry” for me. So yellow, to me anyway, is the shimmer and essence of stars. He was an astronomy fan, so it makes sense. We all are made of star stuff, elements in the universe, so yellow is all of us. Just my interpretation. Love you and miss you so much dad!!! ❤❤❤

The references in some of the lyrics, including swimming and drawing a line, "are all metaphorical slants on the extent of his emotional devotion".

I first heard and watched this on a TV ad. Their album Parachutes was being given away with a newspaper. One that I never read but had to buy it for the CD. I knew straight away that there was something about his voice and the music. The album is absolutely fantastic. Please don’t worry about asking questions about the meaning of Yellow. Just listen

Ive heard this song probably 1000’s of times haha it’s beautiful and I think he’s simply comparing someone’s beauty to the stars. Keep diving in, your just in the beginning of coldplay ❤️ they are still as relevant today as then. Also yes please do some interviews etc. Chris Martin is one of the most interesting , genuine, inspirational frontman alive . His outlook on life and music is just beautiful and inspiring ! Also I’d suggest reacting to them live because it’s 🙌🏻 maybe even take the songs you’ve already reacted to them do a reaction of it live would be very cool. Also please react to coloratura , you might need to go through their discography more before truly appreciating it but it’s like modern day pink Floyd and it’s brilliant

Easily one of the most important songs of my life. Maybe someone else said it but the rest of the band was also supposed to be in the video but they were at a funeral I believe. ? I could be wrong. I heard this on the radio in 2000 for the first time. Life changing moment for sure.

I like what you said about Coldplay's lyrics "make you think." That's also what I love about they. The lyrics can evoke vivid images. The lyrics can relate to you and to me differently, each of us can find something for ourselves there. The lyrics could be so random sometimes. All of those make their songs fun and emotional.

Movie Trivia - the director of 'Crazy Rich Asians' wanted to use this song in the movie. Coldplay said no repeatedly because they had received flack about a few other songs and Asian culture. The Director wrote them a long letter about how this song had so much personal meaning to him. It celebrated the word Yellow instead of it being derogatory. Coldplay agreed and the song was translated into Chinese.

So glad you’ve gotten into Coldplay. They’ve been one of my favorite bands for years. They’ve have so many awesome songs. Another band I think you’d like is Snow Patrol. The lead singer Gary Lightbody did a song with Taylor Swift on her album Red called “The Last Time”. I’m absolutely loving these reactions! Hope you’re having a good day.

Thank you for reacting to Coldplay's song I love Coldplay and your reaction too :) I think Paradise or Clocks will be good as the next song I saw some fans requesting a Coloratura reaction. But you'll have to listen to more coldplay songs before you listen to Coloratura. Because that song is a very ultimate 10-minute song. It's just my thought. 😄

Yellow is still one of my favourite Coldplay songs, it’s beautiful. Have you noticed how the coldplay videos have an unusual effect each time. Yellow is a continuous shot during a sunrise, if it goes wrong you have to wait a day to reshoot it. The scientist is one Chris learned to sing backwards, each sound backwards, until he could sing it in reverse while the world behind goes the other way. I think Fix you is partially at half speed, again sung out of time to synch up when played at full speed. No video editing gimmick, just crazy amount of effort!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame called this one of the songs that shaped rock and roll. Chris Martin said the word yellow just fit into the lyrics and he could never find another word that he could replace it with.

The video is one continuous shot with no cuts. The entire sequence is in slow motion.Originally, it had been intended for the whole band to appear in the video. However, Champion's mother's funeral was held on the day of the filming, so it was decided that only Martin would appear in the video, which was also the immediate explanation of his mood during this part.
