The G class (not the Wagen), and M classes really diluted the Mercedes brand. I’m loving this new Toyota, I’d go for the base model, - more manly, Wish they would introduce a stick shifter variant too,
When comparing the designs of the two trims, i do believe you were looking at the First Edition with the round head lights, not the base 1958 trim, that is why it looks more equipped.
Beautiful video, but I found it hard for my brain to process some scenes as you were saying one thing and showing another. Like you'd say "base 1958" trim, then show horizontal view. OH YES!!! A finally proper MANLY utility 4X4. I love the return to the retro classic design. Even without the Toyota badge you’d definitely know you’re looking at a Toyota Land Cruiser. Lots of the traditional automotive brands have lost their individual identity in their new designs and ended up looking bland and identical. I can already see this Land Cruiser with a roof rack, ladder, snorkel, spare wheel and jerrycan racks, long antenna and a large flagpole rolling in hostile/ inhospitable environments.
Kinda ironic to say others look bland and identical when this reminds me of the Land Rover. I literally was scrolling and saw the thumbnailand my first thought when I saw it was Land Rover, it wasn't until I looked at the badge and actual video title that I realized it was a Toyota, others actually have their own identity, Jeep, Bronco, Mercedes G Wagon etc.
I drive at night, a lot, so headlight performance is far more important than cosmetics. I don’t need to smoke an elk or deer at 0200 ; so the rectangular light assembly with 3 projectors would be my choice.
While this is based off the new Prado, Toyota finally gave the US market a “value based” option with the 1958….that enthusiasts have been begging for. Cloth seat option hasn’t been offered since the early 90’s in the US. Love the design & options. Between this & the GX, Toyota absolutely killed it!
I wish there was something between the base and the first edition that wasn’t the “Land Cruiser” edition. Basically I want the base (round headlights) with the base interior (tweed seats and smaller screen) but with the extra paint on the front bumper like the first edition, the yellow fogs, the color options of the pricier trims, and the optional sway bar disconnect. Leave the big screen, fancy interior, roof rack and whatever else makes the first edition special.
I saw a test drive made in Scotland on this platform, the only engine available was 2.8 liters inline 4 turbo diesel, i think this engine is perfect for this SUV/truck
@@iAdden Seriously tho, you get the old Bronco and put it next to the modern Bronco they have almost the exact same body lines, details and styling. It's a perfect modernization of the classic style, how can this even compare, not saying this is bad by any means, but to say the Bronco pales in comparison is just laughable.
In regards to the round headlights. The 1958 trim gets round headlights. Land Cruiser gets the rectangle headlights, and First Edition is just the Land Cruiser grade with round headlights and different cosmetic touches. Come next model year or whenever First Edition goes away, just 1958 and Land Cruiser. Round or Rectangle. However, I do believe they are interchangeable; don't quote me.

yes utilitarian off road wagon .... not a 3 row, luxury, family school bus like most wagons or suv 's are ... Toyota put utility back into sports "utility " vehicle
Disappointed in it. It's mediocre capability. 8.7 inches of ground clearance for an off-road labeled suv is a joke. Competitors are offering a much as 13.1 inches out of the factory. Even curent 4 runner has more GC... they nailed most of the looks and interior. But missed the mark on offering front lockers, better ground clearance and metal bumpers. This is not a true offroader. It's more like a fancy subaru 😂. Can't compete with any jeep or bronco.
I miss when vehicles were decently priced. Everything screams expensive now. That said, if money were no object, I'd take one with the round headlights black roof (to go with the bumpers and cladding), and gunmetal for the rest of the paint.
$57k today (2024) is like $32k back in 2000. That's the price of a 2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5 in 2000. So yeah, I think you get a lot more bang for the buck with the new Land Cruiser (Prado). The 2025 4Runner was just released and the top trim TRD Pro is probably around $57-60k which is also cheaper than the 2000 4Runner SR5 that was released 24 years ago. The prices today when adjusted for inflation show that some car models got cheaper compared to the older models.
@@runnerxa That argument only works if money via wages rose at the same rate of inflation. It has not. So no, you really don't get more for your money. You quite literally get less because on average you are priced out of options that were far more easily attainable years ago.
Wages don't increase linearly with inflation. Wages increase from a set of skills, educations, and experience that you provide whether you work for a company or open your own business. The wages will always lag behind inflation for low skilled laborers, no matter how much we increase minimal wages. Inflation pretty much always outstrip average wage purchasing power. But not everyone is an average wage earner. Get into STEM skills and/or provide a service that there is a gap in your community and the wages will increase significantly above inflation. You get 24 years of powertrain improvement, a lot better seats, more convenience items, more comfortable ride, more options, and better fuel economy on a $31k 2024 Honda CRV vs a 2000 Honda CRV for literally the same purchasing power as the year 2000.
@@runnerxa The minute you falsely equated wages with education I couldn't bother reading anything else. It's comically unserious at that point. Teachers make some of the lowest wages in the country while being responsible for the education of future generations, meanwhile CEOs who arguably do not know how to do any of the jobs in the company they are in charge of rake in millions for comparatively little effort. The system is not based on merit and skills nor does it value labor regardless of whether or not it is deemed "unskilled" with a few exceptions. Inflation isn't the issue, monopolies, and price gouging is. Purchasing power is inherently not the same because wages are exponentially lower as compared to product pricing. Take care.
@@normanli7085 I wait? Man, these cars are out if my humble reach. I can afford used cars, and here in Sweden, Toyota does not have a wide range of cars, and their SUVs are crazy expensive. Going for a fully loaded PHEV Volvo XC60 is the wise choice...
You sound like someone talking to a crowd in an art gallery ! Its an off road vehicle...not a Laguna. I looked at the engine compartment, & it is an absolute bitch to work on. I heard no mention of a manual transmission. .Who the Hell wants an 8 or 10 speed automatic transmission in an off road vehicle? I think a turbo was mentioned for the engine. Another item to break. Increases under hood heat, prone to failure etc.,etc I am afraid to ask what Toyota wants for one of these. I would take an FJ40 over one of these any day.
Toyota Land Cruiser and 4Runner are arguably the best SUVs on the market. The Land Cruiser will be $90k nicely built. The 4Runner is $60k nicely built.
$57k for a base Toyota SUV, sheesh. It’s beautiful but damn it’s expensive. We need more cheaper alternatives! Yet again this ain’t for me or most people, I’d guess only a handful of people actually off road their daily drivers.
Yet last year Toyota sold more cars than any brand, with a few million more than Volkswagen on second place. I guess they must be doing something right. They have been a bit conservative and lacking lately, and it’s hard to stand out while Hyundai Kia and more recently the Chinese pushing out and hyping up cars with daring designs. But it seems like a lot of people still want more conventional and dependable cars, and surely a lot of people still want some physical buttons in their cars. And while being able to offer boring cars that can run for one million miles, they have, throughout the decades, launched legendary cars, cars that have reached cult status. We shall see what the sales figures are for the Land Cruiser and Lexus GX.
