Hey, thanks for making this. Can't even start to describe how much it made me feel. You made me both smile and cry several times, made me feel humbled, overwhelmed and even proud of myself. Thanks for everything you have said. Of course i'm really happy with all the nice comments about the track, and criticism you gave me (which is really hard to both give and get. Usually when i write a more criticism based comment on a track i end up not sending it/or just complimenting it instead because i'm afraid how the creator will react to it, or if they even want any feedback at all). But with the rest of the video, there were so many great and interesting topics that i could really relate to. Especially with the fear of not getting comments or reactions, and after releasing a track feeling unsatisfied with all the imperfections in it that i could not fix later, really pushed me towards perfectionism (something that i think only happens with Line Rider for me). About the audience or who i made this track (or pretty much any track i have made) for: i tried to think as little as possible who or if even anyone will be watching it, kind of prepping me for the worst. I usually try think in my head that i'm making these tracks mostly to myself, but in the end seeing how LR community and others will react or feel towards my tracks is really important to me. This track was made for you, everyone (especially LR community because i can't show this stuff to anyone in my real life), who has in any way helped or positively affected my live. Line Rider and the community has really given me something to be passionate about. This honestly was the highlight of the year for me. It made me feel so much more than i have in the past couple of years. Thanks! i tried writing this comment multiple times and after spending a night without sleeping and not overthinking too much, i hope this is at least somewhat readable.

It was a really good track, Toivo. I think the struggles that are talked about in this video become especially prominent when you're making something really personal. Yet you still pushed through and released a masterpiece that trackmakers will be taking inspiration from for years to come. You deserved this, man.

It was really fun to pretend to be a professor for a little bit for this! What a powerful little punch of hope and honesty. A real masterwork in the admittedly very small Line Rider video essay landscape. This resonated with me, and I hope it will with everyone else who sees this. I hope you feel seen.

This feels like it should reach people outside the LR community. In fact, I'm an outsider myself, and I just watched it in thrill because of my interest on the topic of making niche art on the internet. Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts.

If you were wondering what happened with our Line Rider In Depth series, the answer is I (rabid) have been working on this two hour monstrosity since the last one came out 😅 Hope you like it!

Thank you for this video! Every second of this spoke to me, at times it felt as if you were reading my mind! I sometimes feel doubts that I'm not creative enough to make linerider art in a traditional sense, and I've felt the more quirk/engineering side of the community speak to me, but I have still felt a lot of the symptoms of the process of creating art mentioned in the video. Honestly, I don't care how much backlash this gets from the side of the lr community that takes none of this seriously, this needed to be said and I'm glad this was made. edit: just want to add that the way I sometimes present myself in the community clashes with the mentality of this comment, and I want to apologize for that, I'm working to be a more understanding and open member, and sometimes I think that 12 year old wonderstruck internet surfer side of me comes out sometimes when in the conversation of track making

Thanks for the lovely comment, this was exactly the kind of thing I was hoping this video would do so I am overjoyed to read this. re: your edit, no worries at all, we're all growing and changing and hopefully become better people over time - I definitely went through a phase where I was aware enough to cringe at my own issues on this topic but not enough to be compassionate towards myself or others about it, and I was pretty mean and judgy to a lot of people during that time in ways I regret. It's all good, we're all just doing our best :)

i really didn't expect to watch a two hour video about line rider today, and definitely not that it would speak to me so much! i'm an art student, and i really relate to being afraid of being vulnerable in you art, and all the validation that you crave, it's fucking scary. but hey, we make things anyway, cause not doing it feels wrong. so great video, and i'll definitely check out the book art & fear, looks like a good read!

Well, the truth is that this is going to be a long comment and my English is not that good to translate it, so sorry for the google translate :_ My biggest connection to Line Rider is you and a couple of other channels, some things in the video I didn't fully understand not because you didn't explain it well, but because I don't understand much about the LR community. However, I did understand other things and I empathized with them a lot because I consider myself an artist (Art and Fear is now on my to-do list). And the truth is that I still haven't finished processing much of what you said (I think I'll come back to this video a couple of times in the future), however, something I did understand very well is the conclusion. And I can only congratulate you, because it is a very brave and valuable solution considering that many people have talked about the same topic, but never dare to give solutions. It is really important to talk about the artist and the creative process, however, it is also important to provide solutions. Thank you very much, as I said, I will return to this video in the future, however, at this moment I will take that and try to apply it.

Just writing this comment because I'm passing this section of the video; LRTran also has timeline based zoom controls, and it is a lot less crash-prone. I normally use it when I need to use LRA.

Rabid here, I didn't know this! I haven't tried LRTran, are there mac-compatible builds?

1:22:13 Counterpoint: maybe a technically driven meme track is made by someone who just wants to have fun. Not every undertaking in line rider is started or ended with the intention of art.
@LineRiderReview
@LineRiderReview 2 года назад
I mentioned this a few different places in the video including a few minutes earlier at 1:16:40 - if someone is sharing things they make with the public, then there's no real escaping the tension around the gap between how they hope people will react and how people actually do react, even if the strategy for dealing with this is "I was just having fun"-flavored denial and/or devaluation. Consider that if your comment is true, why you feel defensively enough around the subject to leave a comment with a timestamp disputing one small part of a 2 hour video?
@pypeapple

@@LineRiderReview I agree with you at 1:16:40 , Not every meme or low effort throwaway is made for "no reason". However, I have to dissagre with this: "if someone is sharing things they make with the public, then there's no real escaping the tension around the gap between how they hope people will react and how people actually do react" I have created/edited my own share of throwaways that i can confidently tell you I had no attachment to other than for the lols, even one in line rider. obviously, there are things i've made that I have attached your described mindset to, but it is entirely possible to separate the result from the reaction. "if your comment is true, why you feel defensively enough around the subject to leave a comment with a timestamp disputing one small part of a 2 hour video?" first off, because it's a really well-written video that provides a great basis for discussion. this point in and of itself is something I only now realize i've been thinking though for about a year now, so it may have hit a blindspot I never noticed before. Second, I tend to be defensive of everything you say because I find myself disagreeing with you on quite a bit when it comes to line rider. This is your job, you are truly an artist, you care about what you make. But I'm a teen who likes playing video games, so it is much more fun and engaging for me to develop tech and put in the grind for a result that looks and sounds cool, I would not play line rider if it did not have technical elements to learn or a skill progression to improve on. In my opinion, the statements you made at 1:22:13 show that you care way too much about the artistic potential of line rider and discount the fun the rest of us have when we make bosh go brrrrrr in better ways with newer techniques. I just think you take things a bit too seriously.

“I think you take things a bit too seriously” is a really obvious tell that you didn’t watch the first hour, by the way.

@@LineRiderReview Making meme tracks was one idea I suggested to arglin (after seeing 1 or 2) and was hoping it makes "more sharable" LR videos that get lucky and make LR more popular. I didnt know the "benefit" of hiding behind a layer of irony at the time. I've was a lurker fan of LR since the beginning and always wished people saw what I saw in them, or that it's kinda like TASing. TASing managed to gain decent popularity at GDQs. So I've been thinking a bit too much on how to make LR popular. (But hold on, what if LR at GDQ? eh idk, nvm ignore that)

1:44:31 THERE I AM GARY THERE I AM!!! In all seriousness though, this was a great video to watch, especially since I can now get tons more out of Toivo’s godsend of a track with the context you put out. Thank you for the lovely two hours of content!
