This is just my hunch but-You still have 5gb of memory available without much pressure. It probably doesn’t matter yet if Safari may be using a bit more. If it is using more, it may be a memory-performance trade off that Brave is just balancing differently (eg worse performance when you go back to an older and/or heavier tab).

I agree with all of your points about the performance and stability of Safari. It's often fine, but I do notice the occasional slowness or instability, especially after prolonged usage. On my M1 MacBook Air with 8GB of RAM, Arc Browser (Chromium-based) actually uses so little memory, having tons of RU-vid pages open still results in a green memory pressure graph. Chromium's memory saver feature works really well, and Apple should add something like that to Safari as well.

If your work relies on GSuite Safari just cant’t handle it right: e.g. switching bluetooth channels after one finishes google meet call. The only solution is to restart the browser. And for the memory consumption: sole youtube tab takes about 1Gb in Safari. This is just insane
@rbalfanz
@rbalfanz 3 месяца назад
For those who don’t watch feature 3, Safari does vertical tabs. Just show the sidebar from the View menu or click the button like Jerry shows. But then, take it a bit further by expanding the tab group using to get the full vertical tab bar experience (I didn’t see those shown in feature 3). Additionally, you can hide the top tab bar with or without the sidebar open to get some additional vertical space back. I like how Orion organizes tabs vertically in a hierarchy. So tabs opened from another tab will be nested/indented, so you can visually make more sense of your mess of tabs, and close subsets that are likely related.
@JerrySchulze

Wait you can hide the top tab bar? I don’t think I knew that. If you live verticals tabs then it seems like an option now.

Hi Jerry, this is the first one of your videos I have watched on RU-vid, Safari is my go to daily driver web browser. I did download edge for my Mac only for those one offs that don't work like it should in Safari, but unlike you I don't have a bunch of tabs open if any I may have a total of four. I rarely have an issue in Safari and if a page isn't working like it should in Safari, I will check with edge and 9/10 it will work there. Again very rare. This crap about browser wars is stupid at best, If something works and I am happy with it, It won't matter to me how lightening fast another product may be. Besides, as it was said, if you are not paying for the product. You are the product and since we pay a premium price for Mac's I feel anything we get from Apple that claims to be free is already paid for in the high prices they charge, but with Google and others Na! everyone can have them that's fine as long as we are all happy that all that matters.

My reasons for staying with Safari: 1. Keychain (why isn’t Apple letting other browsers support this?) 2. Share Extensions - I share a lot of stuff from Safari to the Notes app e.t.c (again, Apple doesn’t seem to allow 3rd party browser support) 3. I used to use Chrome but I noticed Google was pushing software updates in the background and none of the instructions to disable it worked so I quit Chrome for good.

I've been using safari since it's first launch as I 'm a mac user since 95. Sadly even though I love it, it lacks of few things. I learnt to use chrome for webdevelopment and never understood why safari was so hard to use for this task and slowly starts to get on to it while Apple always claimed to be on top in this field. The worst with time is Safari as google takes all your memory so it's hard when apple sells computers with 8 g Ram when only browsers need that memory to function!!!

I can and I did!!! Safari is GARBAGE because the adblocker does not work all the time. Like adguard as a chorme based browser extension WORKS perfectly. Safari DOES not. It will show more ads throughout the internet which is a turn down. More over heavy sites that require quite the computation will CRASH and be slow or bugged on safari while Chrome on the same machine will continue being smooth. How can a 2024 browser feel broken on MAC os but the my ipad or my iphone run it with no major problems? I think that safari on MAC is not really ready for some desktop pages which do work on chrome better. Yes safari has good qualities but you need to balance the use. Chrome can be used for everything while safari must be used in some cases. this can make you forget that safari exists but we all know safari is better on the battery as it is more efficient. Watch netflix or other video playback on safari and the rest of the browsing on chrome. This is my use case. Like you can see it on the verge in the video. With the same adblock chrome will NOT show any ads.
