In this video I use various woodworking skills to hand carve a unique coffee table The table has been sold! Thank you for your interest. Thanks for watching and subscribe!
Just a thought to ponder. Woodcraft is my passion. We had diamond wire saws that we use to cut down oil platforms underwater. I don't know of a woodcraft product out there that works this way but that means we need to create one. Bore a hole, then feed the cutting wire through and run the machine like a bandsaw to remove that center. Quit being wasteful 😂 Until we create that saw. Just plunge cut the center out so you can minimize your waste and recycle the waste as usual. On another note. Don't waste all that sawdust. Store it in a trashcan or something and use it for filleramd such. Then you won't need to buy wood flower. Also get yourself a chain hoist for large heavy projects. You will need it when you get older.
Hi Shane, This is Jesse. I love watching your videos and the crazy things you make. I am 16 and have recently started a woodworking business in Alberta and have started a RU-vid channel documenting my journey. If you could please mention it to your fans that would be greatly appreciated. The name of the channel is A Woodworking Journey. Thanks a lot and I look foreword to more videos.
Ha Ha sorry guys, sold already!!! It's beautiful Shane, I can't wait to see it. Your skills are amazing to watch . Your skills are far beyond your age, they are museum quality to me anyway. Thanks so much Shane
You definitely made me reconsider if I wanted to start doing this type of wood work, cause I could really see just how much time and work goes into just one of them!!
If you’re looking for a lacquer that doesn’t yellow, try using a water white lacquer. Sherwin Williams makes the best I’ve ever used. As to the table, it is gorgeous!
Beautiful job!!! Don't get discouraged by your low subscription #s. Keep at it And it'll grow. Your talented and very good at explaining what your doing without using woodworker exclusive jargon. Viewers appreciate that . Can't wait for your next video!!!
I’m similar, regarding woodworking by myself. It’s the total control and freedom aspects which are so attractive. I’m branching out into metals and sheet plastics. Great Video 👍.
I'll be honest, when I started the video, I wasn't sure about the design. However, seeing the finished product absolutely convinced me it was amazing!! Some day when my lifestyle is less mobile, I want stuff like that in my home.
Absolutely mesmerizing craftsmanship, Shane! Your attention to detail and skillful use of six different hardwoods resulted in a truly breathtaking table. The way you creatively combine the varying grains and hues is a testament to your talent. Watching your process unfold was both inspiring and incredibly satisfying. Thank you for sharing your artistry with the world! Also, have you thought about doing the sanding outside? Could help keep your shop a little cleaner.
And yes I’ve thought about sanding outside but just getting everything outside like tools and power, and even the table it self would just be a hassle. Plus it was 30-40 degrees outside.
I did something similar with a large log round taken from a maple tree in my neighbor’s yard. Took me 5 months to carve, flatten, sand, and fill cracks with epoxy. It’s a great table for our screened porch and will be passed down to one of our kids.
Looks very good it's good to see someone making something unique I use to have a lathe and never liked to make things that looked alike defeats the purpose of making something different if you're going to make another made a12 foot by 3 oak table and had to use 3 ton excavator to move it when it was finished and all the wood was cut with a chainsaw from the forest to the finished product hand electric planer and belt sander and orbital sander to finish but the legs are rounds that I decorated with leaf shape and took me 6 days to sand it
Awesome job, I think the waste may have been avoided if you had made the u shape during the glue ups, and I totally agree on the finish...wouldn't have looked as hombre with the yellowing
As an owner of some giant "manly" gas chainsaws, there is definitely a place for the battery or electric models!!! In a closed garage? Yup. Lightweight for walking around trimming? Yup. To have handy by the sawmill for cutting whatever? Yup. For teaching a newbie to sawing? Yup. For dropping a 4' diameter pin oak? Nope. Keep it up man. So hoping you bust up the internet sometime soon!!! I sure hope you get a ton of cash for that table. It so has a lot of special places out there!!!
I love it! You did a great job of showing a fraction of all your efforts into such a complex project. I'm glad you feel bad about the waste, the best humans do. I would have loved to use your scraps in my own art projects, I could have figured out something... maybe next time 😜 again, what a beautiful job you did ❤❤❤
You demonstrated that you are a true artist! I am in awe of your abilities and creativity. I "try" to build guitars....and you have inspired me to try and be more creative. Well done sir!
Next time, try using a hand scraper on thise inside curves to remove the scratches. Then follow it up by hand sanding. I think it would have saved you some time vs. the sander.
Nice piece of work, I like the end product. As an ex-ED and Trauma nurse can I advise you push the router away from you as you cut? pulling towards you like that on the cut you could end up with a lovely mangled abdomen. also make yourself a zero clearance throat plate to avoid loosing pieces like this.
Excellent work young man. My name is Allan and I am a master carpenter/sculpture from Scotland. I must say it was an ambitious project. What was the total man hours? It's an excellent design and you were wise to cut out the centre first!😁
Thank you so much I'm the buyer, I've been to Scotland some 16 times and I love it, This is my 3rd piece from Shane, I also bought his one-of-a-kind table, and the reason they don't build furniture this way
16:30 i would've unscrewed the bottom of the jig, lifted the top off. Then flipped the table, replaced the top of the jig. That was very frightening to think you were going to get trapped in there by your arms. Holy canoli! Glad you survived.
Nice Hydrow shirt, I love their rowing machine! I recommend using an Arbortech Turbo Plane to rough carve and then switch to those aggressive attachments. It'll make quick work of the carving and leave large shavings so the whole thing isn't turned into harmful dust for breathing.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video! What a hell of a lot of work you put into this piece! But, the result definitely justifies it all! Well done! You should be very proud of your accomplishment! Cheers.
I love it! I totally agree with it has to feel good. I have that with my projects too. Also, you should be able to cut through the whole block with a chainsaw, instead of having to leave two halfs apart. And the chainsaw has mkre difficulties sawing along the grain, so that might be why you were a bit disappointed with the lesser amount of cuts than promised. Anyway, it looks beautiful and i think you did a really great job! Especially when it is the first time you've done something like this
I didn’t get it until it was done. I think it turned out beautiful. Nice job. And take it from someone who’s been using chainsaws for 40 years and owns one of the biggest ever made, battery operated chainsaws have a place in our lives. I bought one to use in my workshop. Not dying from carbon monoxide poisoning is a good thing. They’re also lighter and quieter.
I think it's beautiful work I love it. IMHO if it were my table I would want it to be a little larger that being said I still love the design and shape. I know it's hard to hear it needs to be larger with the tons of hand sanding and carving 😂😂 you earned another sub count me in, I'm going to check out a few of your other videos if not all of them The thumbnails look pretty cool. I've been woodworking for a few years now, it's a satisfying and expensive hobby that comes with a tool addiction but I love it lol, I'm surprised you never popped up on my feed till now
