I'm an old school, one-hander. Tried two-handed and just couldn't get the feel for it. My 19-year-old daughter (also a one-hander), who has an average of 100, tried the two-handed thing... and started rolling 120s. I told her to keep that up and see where it leads.
It takes time to figure it out but once you get it you get it. The best part about 2 hand in my opinion isn’t even the pin action or revs it’s how much it saves your arm
The patterns and the way the lanes break down on the PBA really put a premium on high rev rates. The best plan is to be able to throw thumb in or thumb out depending on lane conditions.
67 yr old 2Hander here. Saw y"all bowling in Reno. I started 2 hander in my 50s I shoot 204 avg, Still have to hit the mark - LOL (wherever it is) great content. ive been watching Tang, its cool. However i commented to Luis Napoles that anybody 190 or over probably wouldnt benifit much switching. It would probably be easier to practice a bit more & take a few lessons. Walter Ray Williams also has a 300 game 2 handed !!! Thanks
WRWJ still carries a two handed arsenal and switches to it when he needs the revs. He recently used it in the later block of a recent PBA50 event. WRWJ has a PBA 300 throwing 2 handed, just one of the many reasons he is the GOAT. You two had fun that is all that mattered. Quality time versus quantity time. Keep up the good work.
Love the vid! You guys are so amazing and I love your content. Not sure if this sounds shallow, but I find it hard to root for the 2-handed guys on tour. Mad respect to Belmo and Simo, but…. IDK, maybe it’s just me😁
I couldn’t do two-handed bowling, especially since I have my struggles with one hand. But I say, if you make the switch to two hands and are successful, kudos to you. Also, y’all had some shots that definitely required the fart sounds. 😂 Bring on the backup ball challenge!
So cute little man was just sitting g there at the end waiting for you guys to finish all quiet and stuff not giving a hard time at all just being the good little boy that he is, 22222222 freakin adorableeeeee ❤❤❤
@@ForrestKritzer seriously you are very fortunate, many times they don’t come out like that especially in the terrible two’s stage….blessing in disguise for you guys for sure, keep up the good work as awesome parents!!
The second hand isn’t what adds more revs, it’s the no thumb. The hand is just to guide the ball on your swing path. Both styles have their advantages such as one handers having it far easier for spares. 2 handers have better control or carry.
Honestly? 1 handers don't actually have it any easier for spares. It's actually easier to flatten your release as a 2 hander and roll the ball end over end, it's just that the reality is most 2 handers aren't really very good. No shade against them, but because the learning curve is so much steeper for 1 handed bowlers to get anywhere, they tend to develop a very solid spare game as a result of spending a long time being unable to strike. They also have a very well developed game long before they are capable of actually reaching high levels of competition. 2 handers are capable of reaching high levels of competition a lot faster, but then they hit a wall when they're on sport patterns and they can't strike so easily, and their lack of spare ability becomes quickly apparent. You only have to look at some of the really good current 2 handers like Belmo, Troup, Simonsen to see that their spare game is easily on par with any of the 1 handers. 1 handed bowling has a long history of coaching and methodology behind it to draw from, so high level coaching is easy to find. 2 handed is nowhere close to reaching its peak yet, and there aren't enough high level 2 handed coaches out there yet. Give it 20 years, when the footwork/timing/release mechanics are as close to being perfected as 1 handed is right now, and then let's see what happens. The truth is a bowler that masters 2 handed is almost always going to have an innate advantage over a bowler that masters 1 handed.
@@dysfunctionaldave Not really. I’ve bowled every style & it’s far easier to throw straight with 1 hand, that’s the whole “gimmick” behind it just like the gimmick behind nothumb/2 hands is the revs. Can i flatten my wrist? Absolutely. But is it completely different from a regular shot? definitely. Osku for example throws two handed for his strike ball & then swaps to 1 hand for his spares because he can throw it much faster & straight that way. Chalking 2 handed up to being some superior style isn’t inherently true. The control over revs might set you aside to having better carry but it doesn’t make your game leagues above people practicing 1 handed for years
@bryqi2229 You're a little behind the times honestly. 2 handers used to think it was easier to throw spares 1 handed, now they go with 2. Osku himself actually made the switch a good few years back, he no longer throws 1 handed at spares- and his spare game is actually much improved as a result. I feel like you missed the whole point of what I said, which is that 2 handed is a relatively new style. It will take time to figure out the perfect form and model training around it. But it's happening all around us, Belmo has laid down the blueprint for 2 handed bowling with a spare conversion rate comparable to any 1 hander, and now you're seeing the enormous uptick in youth bowlers starting to follow suit. Throwing the ball straight with 2 hands is not as hard as you think- if you put in the work. Just because you've dabbled with all the different styles doesn't mean you've done it equally, until you've knuckled down and spent years putting in the work to bowl 2 handed you can't compare it to 1 handed bowling. Once again I'll repeat myself- you build up a spare and strike game in equal measures as you learn 1 handed, but the early curve with 2 handed is so fast that your spare game is going to lag behind for a long time, hence why it appears harder. But you have just as easy a system to shoot spares, and this will become clearly apparent in the upcoming decades.
@@dysfunctionaldave Like I said, it was an example, because he found it easier. Now he’s been bowling 2 handed so long of course he knows how to do it. It still is easier to get spares with one hand than it is with two because you have far less mechanical issues to worry about including coming around the ball. I also didn’t miss any point, your main point was that apparently 1 handers don’t have it easier for spares although there’s clear strengths & weaknesses of both forms. Your entire argument contradicts itself because you say the difference in learning curves for both strikes & spares as a two hander are uneven. so would that not make the spares harder for the average 2 hander, which people are because they aren’t pros? The idea that just switching to two handed makes you strike all day long is so tired & fabricated. I’d love to play like all the old people & just throw my ball up the outside with 100 rpm’s. But it’s more fun to see my ball come hooking into the pins. Of course in a perfect hypothetical you can just flatten your wrist & get 10 pins with ease, but that’s not the reality for most players. Even with developed strategy, the amount of oil, revs, etc. are going to affect two handed spares whereas one handers who throw the ball straight naturally will have a better margin of error.
I was throwing thumb in or thumb out in the 90s. Just started back after 20 years off. Most spares I shoot thumb in. I have a very low rev rate with thumb in but I bowl that way most of the time unless I can't get the ball motion needed to score.
I always wanted to do 2hands, it's not terribly hard to transition but I just feel like it takes away from the art and tradition of the sport. Half the battle of the sport was doing what you could with what you could one handed, if you needed more revs you practiced hitting harder. Mastering what the sport already had to offer was the name of the game not trying to find a better way. Also the elegance in throwing it one handed, the timing is harder to generate the power and same shot was the difficulty. With two hands you have so much more error room on your approach. If it feels off you have more chance to correct it
Cool match and great to finally see Britt mic'd up and having fun, as least for the first half of the match. 😁 Yeah, two hands is not really fair is it?
I have left handed equipment I don't use anymore. Where do I send a couple of the left handed for a throwing left handed equipment right handed? No warm up, pick them up and start bowling for score. Only can switch out inserts if need be....
Cool video as always Forrest. What are the differences in your ball speeds from 1 handed to 2 handed? Without the backswing i think it would be difficult to get good speed on the ball hence what your wife struggled with.
Two handers have a huge advantage when it comes to strikes. But spare shooting seems to take a hit for them. I'll stick to one handed. Enjoyed the video though. Have you guys tried an out of box urethane ball challenge? Keep up the good work!
So fun watching a fantastic one hand bowler try two hand and kill it. Darren did it and bowled league that way. I would love to see you get a few fitted 2 hand balls and go play league and try to get the best score you can.
and yes, force her to do the backup ball challenge! Another challenge might be the 'which parent gets your kid to strike more?' challenge with the ramp or freehand... something along those lines involving y'alls son.
Honestly the centers I'm at unless it's a sport shot being 2 handed is a curse more than a blessing. Even during league on a fresh pattern I'm way further left than anyone else and I'm moving left every other shot. It feels like they are using less and less oil with each passing year.
Been bowling 1 handed since i was 6, I'm 69 now. Not gonna change. I think it would be hard to balance without having left arm out. Seems like it would throw you to the side at the foul line. Fun to watch though!
Seriously brother, you are just like Mike, you both have a great 2 handed release, your two handed release might be better then your one handed release and I’m not even kidding….I would keep practicing two handed and see where this takes you because I really think you have a bright future two handed and your rev rate is through the rooooooooooof…….let’s go Mr kritzerrrrrrrrr two handed all day my man!!!!!!
Thank you John, I appreciate that a lot! Maybe someday I’ll switch but I have to win a PBA Title 1 handed first lol. I’ve put to much work into this 1 handed crap
@@ForrestKritzer yeah I totally get it, and totally understandable, it’s coming eventually….takes time and a lot of practice, but eventually you will get on the board with your first title, no doubts brother!!! Just keep your mental game strong and keep your head in it and you will be fine
One hander here with a high Rev rate. I won't switch to two handed...as my 51 year old self has enough issues with excessive torque on the body lol. Forrest made 2 handed pretty seemless as his mechanics 1 handed looks almost flawless and very smooth.
Lets just say my brother and I started the same time, he 2H me 1H. He got the early lead as is hard to understand how to hook with the thumb but now I am getting closer. Also, the 2H is much more harder on the body as you have to use more muscles (mainly the back) to make a good motion. Do you agree?
@@ForrestKritzer I like that. There’s gotta be more #dbzgang out there that bowl besides us, 220 avg., the Tang bros, and Tom Cagle II which he’s already using his ki blasts every time he bowls 🤙
Backup ball challange with 220 average bowler for sure, never want to discount Brittany but that may be another lopsided match. That being said, the more Brittany the better! 😅
The hardest thing for a kne hander going two handed to develop is ball speed. You seem to do it naturally. I bet you could go two handed now, and not miss a beat. I was a decent one handed bowler who used to hate on two handers. But if i come back to bowling at somepoint im definitely going to handed or no thumb. We can complain all we want about two handers but its a waste of energy. They arent going away, and its hard to argue with results.
One of my best hustles in the old days of the PBA was the one pin each ball. $100 @ game. I paid my entry fee more than once, and paid for the gas to get there. IE: best score for the game is 90
Dude you should just make the switch too and be the best in the world... its ok its not cheating!!! Oh and i thought Michael just bowled a tournament 1-handed..🤔
I honestly think you should try to bowl a PBA tournament to handed :-) with a little more practice. You could be a very very good two handed bowler :-)
Biggest advantage for youth two handed is they throw a heavier ball for their age and get better pin action than a kid the same size one handed having to use a lighter ball.
A crutch? Cmon man 2 handed is just as hard as 1 one handed, nowadays both can close to the same revs, idk why so many of yall have a problem with because its not the "real way" cmon man dont be one of those people who hate two handed just cause its "easier" which its not
@@rayhill4625 it becomes obvious when you see 13 year old girls competing with professional bowlers, or 14 and 15 year old boys winning PBA regional events. I guarantee you that would not happen before 2 handed bowling.
Okay, switch to two handed & start beating the pros & making some money instead of complaining about it online. That would be the obvious solution since it’s such a crutch?
@@bryqi2229 ok, gaslight everyone and ignore the obvious. I know we all have to live with it, but we don’t have to like it. That was my original comment. I bowl for fun and have a two handed on my team (who, by the way admitted he was a 200 average bowler before switching to two handed and seeing his house average go up nearly 30 pins)
It's not a trend stick with one handed That's the proper way. They're trying to change bowling like they're trying to change everything else. All the young people I seen doing two-handed is because they can't do one-handed, well they need to learn quit taking the easy way out.
I don't care much for the 2 handed style, doesn't seem like bowling to me, but man, you scored really really well! .. Still a lot of fun to try different things. I like the idea that Mr. 220 and DTang do a whole lot of different things and goof around a lot, I think you learn a lot of things by doing that. Excellent video, looks like fun!
Yeah I’m not big on 2 handed either but there’s no denying that it is the future of bowling. Almost every youth bowler is 2 handed now and I don’t see that changing.
@@ForrestKritzer - Indeed .. I wonder if they shouldn't make 2 separate classes for competition? .. It does seem like 2 handed may have an advantage, although, currently the hottest bowler on tour is EJ Tackett .. so there's that. But then you look at the % of the top PBA bowlers that are 2 handed and it is pretty high (Belmo, Simonson, etc)
@@squidly2112 that isn’t all the way true though. The Pba tour finals event happened about a month ago, and it was an event for the top 8 bowlers in points from the latest 2 seasons. 4 of the bowlers were 1 handers (Prather, Tackett, Barrett, And Butturff), while also an equal, amount of 2 handers with there being 4 (Belmo, Simonsen, Troup, and Hanrahan). Doesn’t really seem to be as crazy of an advantage for 2 handers as you are making it out to be.
