On the way to the cross, Jesus experienced more fear than any other person ever has, and He overcame it. He faced the worst death imaginable and was resurrected to become our Prince of Peace. In this message, Jimmy Evans reminds us that because of what Jesus did, we are empowered to fear in our lives.
Series: I Changed My Mind
Message: I Changed My Mind About Fear
Speaker: Jimmy Evans
Notes:
Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living
sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good
and acceptable and perfect will of God.
John 8:31-32
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples
indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Luke 22:39-47
Coming out, He went to the Mount of Olives, as He was accustomed, and His disciples also followed Him. When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. When He rose up from prayer, and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping from sorrow. Then He said to them, “Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation.” And while He was still speaking, behold, a multitude; and he who was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them and drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.
Hebrews 4:15-5:2
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he Himself is also subject to weakness.
John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
me.”
Acts 4:10-12
Let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of
Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here
before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
Luke 4:13
Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Hebrews 2:14-15
Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the
same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and
release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
HOW TO OVERCOME FEAR
1. Admit your fear without shame.
2. Submit Your Fears to God
James 4:6-7
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:“God resists the proud, But gives grace to the
humble.”
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
3. Focus on God’s Presence and Love
Psalm 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil;
For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Hebrews 13:5-6
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He
Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “ The LORD
is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
Numbers 13:31-33
But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people,
for they are stronger than we.” And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land
which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land
that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.
There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like
grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
4. Face your fears by FAITH and watch them crumble.
Luke 24:36
Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them,
“Peace to you.”
