This is also the episode written the best Jerry/George moments. Seeing them revert to their high school selves is so revealing about their friendship. The way George raises his hand when Jerry says "I choose not to run" is one of the greatest, most subtle and genius moments of physical comedy I've ever seen.
It matches with him choosing to embrace Lois instead of Elaine. He’s achieved his Superman moment of triumph and must seal it by embracing his Lois. In any other episode, I think he would’ve hugged Elaine.
All Jerry has to do is drop Duncan's name and George immediately understands the implications of what that means. This is the best episode to understand just how long they have been friends with each other and how much they really know one another.
I love all the little moments that show the depth and history of their relationship. I always love the episode where George is talking about velvet and Jerry cuts him off "I know, I know, ensconced in velvet."
One of my absolute favorites. It's so purposefully sitcom-y and breaks the fourth wall. Seinfeld had a lot of unique episodes, but there is no other episode like this one
I've never seen this episode before but predicted what would happen and it didn't disappoint. True Seinfeld comedic writing right there. Did not know it would be Kramers car that gave him the early start though. Legendary story writing !
If you think about it, the race was settled anyway. Despite Jerry's headstart, Duncan was unable to close the gap or overtake him. Therefore, Duncan is clearly not faster than Jerry.
@@OveBakken in truth, none of the shots are reliable. the depth of field flattens the perspective for the sake of the shot. you really need a profile shot for these things. you can discern SOME distance between the two, but nothing reliable.
They edited it as best they could, but Jerry runs flat-footed with feet shuffling like a fast walk instead of his knees lifting up. Even with a 10 yard lead in a 100 yard dash, Duncan would have caught him. It's like a grown man racing a little child. Sadly for Duncan, although the original race shot shows the tape being approximately 100 yards away. The shot at @3:11 shows it actually being less than 50 yards. Sorry, I ran track so this and other T&F Hollywood goofs always irritate me. If you want to show something athletic, just get an athlete to do it.
@@AzizMelb I think the coach is standing there like 'look man, a big 'kapow' went off what do you want me to do? I guess he's got better reflexes than you.... now if you excuse me, I'm off to lunch!
I love the way Jerry looks at the camera while he is running. It’s just like the time he took the Marble rye bread from that old lady and when he starts running away he looks directly at the camera. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
3 min mark Elaine is looking straight down the street at Jerry waving her arms..next clip she is huddled with spectators looking to the side and yelling Jerry hehe.
This is one of my favorite Seinfeld moments and a perfect example of how to subvert expectations in a good way. The normal Seinfeld formula would be for Jerry to spend the entire episode trying to squirm out of the race, then he is talked into it by his girlfriend, loses by a mile, and she breaks up with him. Instead it's a perfect twist of the formula, where another head start allows Jerry to win in the exact same manner he did before.
There's one in which Jerry exits his apartment with Kramer and says something like "I 'd sometimes like some to tell me... (looks at the camera) you suck, you have no talent...". Something like that. Don't remember the episode.
@@Pokarookris Oof, it took me almost 15 minutes jaja. Thank god seinfeldscripts exists. 6x23 The understudy. 1:55 mark, almost the beginning of the episode. 2nd scene.
Mr. Bevalaqua had a lot of extra commands. That's just asking for a false start. If you are a sprinter, "take your mark" literally means to get to the starting block. For sprinters and distance alike, "set" or "runners set" means to get in position and not move until the gun goes off.
@@Delightfully_Bitchy He does, too, but the point is that with people's nerves and reflexes being what they are, when you add extra commands that don't really do anything, people are going to be extra jumpy.
*Eastside Low Bottoms sh*t !* _Tappin' in from South Central LA_ "Maybe I will Lois. Maybe I will." 😉 (Wink) With the Superman theme playing, that made it classic.
I like how this episode played out exactly like a comic book. There’s a rival, the myth about about Jerry’s speed comparable to the “faster than a speeding bullet” analogy about Superman, he’s dating a woman name Lois whose in danger of losing her job, and of course, John Williams Superman theme. I always loved it when they incorporated Superman stuff into the show because just like Jerry himself, I’m a huge geek about Superman. If I had my own sitcom, I’d literally have done the exact same thing
Can we all agree that the second race doesnt mean anything, cause , even if Duncan wins , that doesnt change the fact that in highschool jerry ran faster than the wind
Getting the Superman score was perfect. I always rag on JW for stealing the Star Wars march score from Holst’s Mars but I forget the Superman piece is pretty epic, and I do t even care for Superman, without Richard Pryor. 😂
My favorite part is when Jerry and that girl he is dating are in the car and he's trying to see if maybe the other dude mentioned that he cheated without actually bringing it up, and she just blurts out, "why did you cheat in that race?!?!" hahahahahaha
@@commandershepard96 yes because life is absurd they do the same in sports saying championships don’t count and etc I think that’s what makes it funny seeing a reflection of society
Look Geniuses since they both in their thirties now there's still no age or known advantages for the rematch that Duncan been trying to get for 2 decades and Jerry been ducking for 2 decades. Duncan is the only person who didn't believe the Jerry Seinfeld is the Real Life Flash Hype in 4 years within their High School and in fact knew the truth that he took a head start. So if Duncan dust Jerry now, then all the people in their class wouldn't die thinking Jerry was fastest thing on 2 feet (duh). Reason why the crowd was fill with their old classmates to witness the legend within a rematch. Plus Duncan just dusting Jerry would end his legacy and Myth which is good enough for Duncan who knew he cheated.
I find it funny that after Duncan takes off you can see Elaine in the background. Next shot shows her like she staring from the finish line. She was in fact faster than Jerry and Duncan
If you really stay truth to the characters, there was no way Jerry would break up with Lois after that, she could have been the only long term relationship Jerry could have had she was perfect in his eyes. The writers could only completely dissappear her. She even wasn't at the Trail.
