Yeah and some people saying give him a break it's 1am..no he still took the time to tell her it needed to be longer. And the IBLP father in law needed to still be in control by ratting out the surprise. It tells a lot imo.

Why did the father-in-law send Austin a picture? I’m confused, like joy couldn’t go get her haircut on her own, and her father-in-law was telling on her to her husband. This whole thing is just odd.
Totally agree. The father seems to have issues. He also refused to cooperate at the gender reveal party when Joy was have everyone choose boy or girl for the dart throwing. It's like: why are you being such a tool for Pete's sake???
Joy’s father in law was once on a reality tv showed called “ the world’s strictest parents” you might be able to dig up some reruns here on RU-vid.He’s not a warm and fuzzy kind of guy. Austin at least seems kinder than him.

Austin didn't have to agree with it. As Joy did this of her own back without Austins approval, I don't think she needed his 100% approval neither to feel secure.

My husband said the exact same thing when I first cut my lions mane. It wasn't short short either. During the days of covid I went short short because the PPE was so hot.
Everyone has their own language in their marriage. How about this, it was 1 am, he was just getting off work and tired..His wife did not seem so bothered by his reaction soo. Take that into consideration as well.
I don't think he was hateful on purpose I just think he likes longer hair. My husband is hard to say that I am pretty or whatever but he shows me a loving behavior and maybe Austin is like that. Men are men and they just don't get it sometimes that we need to hear that we are beautiful and hear praise sometimes. But they can show their feelings more than say that sometimes. It hurts as a woman not to hear that stuff. But it is also good to know true love comes through actions too

I agree that Austin's father had NO business getting involved with Joy-Anna's decision to get her hair cut to medium-length! As for Austin, he doesn't HAVE to lie, he can just say: "Joy-Anna, I'm NOT used to medium-length hair, and I need some time to adjust to your new look, but you always look beautiful and I love you!" If I had a husband and he said that, I'd accept it and answer: "I love you, too!"
I absolutely love your look! Just beautiful ! Your hair is healthy and fresh and I’m glad you did what you wanted to do! Your hair is gorgeous! I’m just disappointed Austin didn’t just tell you how beautiful you are up front. I know he has his preferences but he should have been more emotionally supportive of you and understand that long hair is difficult to maintain and that pregnancy is difficult so having fun and easy hair to take care is better for you.
Totally agree with that..I have hair over my bum and I am pregnant with my 5th baby..I would love to cut it but I think granddad would Cry..I have always had longhair even when I cut it it was long..but Austin should have been more nice about it and been excited to see his wife with a new look..
@Angel On A Mission I couldn't agree more! He literally hurt her heart with his words and demeanor. And words and actions DON'T GO AWAY and echo in your mind. She was so joyful and happy and you could tell she was lighthearted and playful and felt really pretty. That is a huge thing during a pregnancy and Austin "You stole that from her"!!!! Shame on you! I've loved following you as a couple but, Austin, you really messed up on this one!! I hope you can put back that song in her heart and happy smile on her face. Was she supposed to ask your permission? The most likely time for a woman to cut their hair is during pregnancy because it rejuvenates them.

Your hair looks beautiful. The length will be much easier for you to manage. Don't quite understand Austin's concerns. Would he cut his hair and shave his beard if you suggested that to him? You all seem like a wonderful couple. Hair length should not be an issue.
I'm watching this months after it was originally posted and I just read a few comments and I am literally shocked at the anger, sometimes even rage and ugliness of people toward Austin and his reaction! Honesty is expected and deserved and that's what he gave her! He complimented her and showered her with affection! His love for her is not based on her hair and thank goodness for that! She knows this and knows that he wants her to be happy! So he may like longer hair, so what... she wanted it shorter in this season of life and she cut it! Point blank and PERIOD! Too many people trying to read into this and make more of it than what it is! If that's all she has to worry about (obviously not) then she's amazingly lucky! Lol!
It is a sad day when a grown woman carrying a child cannot have the dignity of making a change to her appearance without father in law playing creepy spy. it is not as if she was out with another man or at a bar. Agreed this right here. A wife or significant other should be able to do what she wants with her hair. Coloring my hair is a thing I look forward to. It's my happy place. Joy your hair is beautiful. My hair used to be as long as her with my first child I was relieved to chop it all off an donate my hair to children in need an one time I did breast cancer . Any time I can donate hair I do so.
Joy-Anna only cut HALF of her hair off, and I can't BELIEVE Austin's father had the audacity to "report it" to his son the way he did! I just hope that Austin can put his foot down and stand up to his father, telling him to "shut up and mind his own business!"

You look adorable with your new hair do! Sometimes hair gets so long that there is no style to it, most just wind up putting it up. I do agree that it’s nice for it to be long enough to put it up for special occasions though.

Haha here’s the great thing. Joy knows she can do what she wants with her hair, and Austin knows he can be truthful with his preferences. Both show a good stable marriage. I love the love you can feel through the screen and the honesty Austin has always had.

I love it Joy! I've been wanting to go for a similar length. My only holdout at the moment is being close enough to donate the hair cut off and still end up with your current length. I'm not there yet. I might give up and go for the cut because of winter being upon us. It's crazy how tangled hair can become when it hits a jacket hood or scarf for hours.
