Refreshing to see a video thats not the same generic youtube desk setup. Really appreciate your take on minimizing your office footprint and getting what really works for you rather than all the same excessive products that evey other RU-vidr has.
I appreciate your candidness about the different tech rabbit holes we fall in. You don’t really hear many people talk about that. We enthusiasts watch all of these influencers and buy things that we don’t need because we see someone else with it. During/After covid I spent a lot of money on my setup as a coping mechanism. This year I plan on reevaluating why I have something, using what I have instead of getting something new, and selling unused tech instead of accumulating more.
Yeah, I'm glad someone has finally said it. Last year or so was tough and I've ended up spending a crazy amount of money on things that haven't made any noticeable difference to my life (a lot of money on things that *have* made a difference too, but that's not the point). I own a CalDigit TS4 for the sake of having a one cable setup, and as clean as it looks, I don't need 90% of what it offers. The alternative for me was using 3 cables (power, display, peripherals), and sure, it looks worse, but I'd have saved £320. It's funny, because I think back on a few years ago when I was significantly happier and yet didn't have half of the things I do now. I simply didn't care enough or didn't know about them, and my life was far more enjoyable. Wish I knew how to get back to that state of mind. In retrospect, if I could have invested all that money I wasted in improvements to myself, I think I would've. :D
A video I never thought I would see on RU-vid. Admitting the hype of desk set ups and the clutter it can create (physically and mentally). Appreciate you making this video. It's nice to see content that goes against the media grain. Looking forward to catching up on the rest of your content and seeing what you have in store for 2024. Thanks for making this. Keep it up!
I really like the fact that you address the real opinion about desk accessories that actually makes sense. I also use a mechanical keyboard but never satisfy as much as a plain easy Magic Keyboard, which I technically can type the fastest on. The setup is so simple but still looks extremely nice. Keep up the good work!
Your opening words in the video got me excited to watch the whole thing. I was doing the same thing until I realized that I only needed the necessary products to create a good setup.
I've never seen your videos pop up but I'm glad this one did. The vulnerability of why you decided to minimize your desk setup, why you think the desk setup meta wasn't for you, and how auditing and simplifying your space has made you feel better. As someone who has also had too much chatter in the brain, I try to get everything in my life as streamlined and simple as possible. I know it's not the cure to cancer but you've easily earned my subscription.
This is a very refreshing video to watch. I want to remodel by own home office setup and have been going down the “desk setup” rabbit hole on YT. Like you mentioned, it’s very easy (by design no doubt) to get sucked into the idea that you need all these random desk accessories but the ROI on most items just doesn’t add up. Thank you for making this video.
Totally agree on getting into a rabbit hole. So easy to think you need all this stuff. Would love to see a video of your office. Where did you get that tall shelf in the background. The white and oak color. Really dig that.
Hey bro great video. Love everything about the style and minimalism. I just found your channel through this video. Idk how this sounds bro but you seem like a very inspirational person. In your voice theres deep pain. You pushed through even when you thought you couldn't. Continue to fight the good fight bro. Youre not alone. God is with you. You dont understand now but one day you will. Looking forward to more content. God bless you
This is my dream setup which don't have any techy stuff that don't really necessary. Just simple setup with laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and good headphone. Very minimal, less clutter.
Thank you for your video. I love desk setup video because they are shiny, lot of bling bling and stuff to just take space or whatever. But this is the only time I felt that a human being is talking and creating a space to feel fine and then work. I'm sorry about your divorce. I faced a break up after 4+ years and few months of engagement. I felt this pain to over-buy stuff and do something that have a sense of order in my life. Your intro went straight to my heart and really inspire me to get up. So again, thank you, I hope that you are better today, I really wish it for you. And this weekend, I will be on my own for the first time so I will probably follow few steps of your setup. Take care !
Damn dude! Mad respect for the vulnerability you brought into this video. Getting that chair for $400 isn't a steal... it's borderline criminal. I bought a Steelcase leap and had a Kidney extracted for it. (love it though) Subbed!
My MacBook Pro M1 Max also has gotten slower, exactly timed when new MacBook's come out. I use same camera, same videos, but editing the videos now is lagging a bunch, it's intentionally slowing down to make us purchase newer versions.
lol i just got to the end of the video. of course we would love to see a tour of your room, and i'm a bit curious to see how you attach the call digit under the desk.
Happy new year, RU-vid recommend this video and it's so chill to watch. And your new simple desk setup is just like me, after cut down so many things on the "desk setup" before, just keep a few things that need for the work. Can I ask 2 portable SSD with metal finish on your desk, is it actually samsung T7 Shield without the rubber case?
@@austinjrupp I knew it! *Thor's voice*. I have 2 T7 SSD in red, laser engraved with "Daemon" & "Caraxes" in the corner because of the color. I use them just to store movie data, and edit videos shot with blackmagic 4k. Now I plan to transfer all the movies to an ssd with a larger capacity, but I don't like the rubber cover of the T7 shield. Now I see it is so beautiful with its silver color after removing that rubber layer.
The sony card readers are really nice, Just a heads up, I left mine plugged in to the mac with the card in it and it got so hot it nuked the reader for some reason. I switched to the prograde reader for that reason.
I am so sorry to hear about your divorce, and glad that you are now picking up your life. YOLO, so live for your self. Btw, where did you charge the phone/ipad? Wondering how to do it neatly on the desk and create a space for it. Happy New Year!
sorry man I have to say it. but that music thumping in the background was annoying. trying to hear you while also hearing thump thump thump over and over for 9 minutes about drive me crazy. I won't watch another video if it has that in it.
I didn't even notice it until u mentioned it idk how u find it annoying it's so subtle. Saying "I won't watch another Video if it has it in" imo is kinda weird since it's such a small input that u wont even notice unless u focus on it :/
Sorry to hear you went through that - hope you’re doing well, brother. Love the setup. Super clean. I know this may mess with your aesthetic, but if you open your laptop and add fans on the bottom, that could help keep it cool/running well once you clean it out. And a right angle hdmi adapter would help reduce stress on your cable. Just a thought, cheers!
